Sevier County, Tennessee [Tuesday, January 9, 2024] - Heavy rainfall throughout the night and into the day poured across Sevier County resulting in flash floods and elevated levels of rivers and streams. To assist with the response, the Sevier County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) activated the Emergency Operations Center. In some parts of the county, rainfall was estimated up to four (4) inches over a twenty-four (24-hour) hour span.
As a result of the floods, there was a shallow water rescue off Snapp Road where emergency crews rescued an individual from a car. No injuries were reported as part of the rescue.
In addition to the heavy rainfall, wind gusts were measured to be up to 80 mph in the higher elevations with max wind gusts of 94mph recorded on Cove Mountain.
In total, standing water and downed trees or power lines resulted in 20 (twenty) road closures throughout the county.
“Thank you to the quick action of first responders across the county,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters.
As floodwaters recede, residents and visitors are asked to exercise extreme caution when driving on main and secondary roads and remain aware of their surroundings.
Please remember to turn around, don’t drown. Always be aware of Gatlinburg Tennessee flooding conditions!

The will of God. I believe that as we witness current worldwide events, it is God saying, "Wake up! Rise, and open the Book. Learn what was, and is, and forever Shall be - Jesus Christ. Repent, and bear your cross."

Hearing the power of the water is amazing. I'm sure you can feel it in person. Thanks for the update, Ryan!

This is nothing unusual for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge after a lot of rain.

  • @MrCrazychristian86

Looks like more rain is coming your way in the next week. Out here in Nashville, the weather folks here are saying we might get some snow by Monday! Strange weather for January. I appreciate your videos and hope you guys enjoy 2024.

I saw Smokey Mountain family's video from earlier in the day when the water was overflowing over the bridge at the aquarium. Incredible! Even towards the evening the waters were still extremely rapids. Can you imagine the waters folding back at the Red Sea when the Lord parted the waters for the Israelites as to how fast they were flowing? It would certainly have been a sight to see.

Thanks for the update! We were there last week. I was amazing to see the water level rise so much from that storm. Greetings from Florida.

  • @princessiyanna09

I live in in NC and the storm was fine in the morning and then it was absolutely crazy after 12pm. I stayed home with my children as well because most school closed or did an early dismissal. Im glad that you and your family were safe during the storm ❤

60 yrs ago that area was absolutely beautiful without all the fancy stuff 😢

We left Gatlinburg to return home that morning. We loaded up the car the night before, and the sound of the wind in the mountains was insane. The closest thing I can compare it to is like a white noise machine or static on an old TV outside drowning out all other noise. The wildest part of it all was the amount of wind I encountered while packing. It was slightly breezy, but nothing like what you would expect from the noise.
