As someone who doesn't live in an area where flash flooding occurs, it's amazing to see this. I now understand how dangerous flash floods can be.
Crazy how silent it is as it approaches. If you were say, camped and sleeping, you would never hear it coming.
Hopefully one would have sense to *not* camp in or close to a wash/creekbed.
i live near a ton of creeks in georgia and i've seen advisories saying that the water levels will rise but i've never actually seen it in real life probably because most storms here hit during the nighttime lol. if i was able to i would but i don't really get the chance. i hope i can see it soon though in person lol
You also get to see how stupid people are. All of those fools stood in its path and relied on the drain, not one went to higher ground.

That's utterly amazing how fast that went from a dry grass filled creek bed to a thick sludge of mud, water and trees

Its like a time lapse film of what a glacier does and always amazes me that pushing that amount of debris in front of it that the damage done is not more. The momentum gathered and rubbish pushed along is truely alarming at times, so i find it easy to imagine a glacier doing the opposite, moving imperceptibly and grinding the ground with its own debris forming fiiords or valleys in their wake. Thanks for sharing.

That was so close to clogging, actually I think it would've overflowed just from the flow resistance bringing the level up. If that overflows and you're standing on it, you can't run fast enough.
Our guess is that it overflowed. But we weren't going to get washed away trying to find out.

How water flows has fascinated me since boyhood, but I remain either too timid, or too respectful to stand on top of a culvert in those conditions.

These people are nuts. I've seen the road bed around the culvert give way from flash floods smaller than this. Imagine you're standing on that bridge and it collapses and you end up in that rolling meat grinder.
Get up that hill and use your zoom, that's what it's for.
