1:04:45 for the big moment.
It's really cool seeing the different levels of aging on the 4 blocks. I hadn't really thought about how they would look after a few decades; it's a neat way to note the passage of time.
Perhaps the plan need to be changed to not put new blocks on top of crumbling blocks.
but my question is why they are doing this
@@willbill5684it’s an art project.
@@willbill5684 to show the world how long 1200 years (the age of the town at the time) really is
I've waited for this since I learned about it in the Vsauce video
I didn't expect to still think about it years later, but here we are!
true
YESSS THE 4TH BLOCK HAS BEEN PLACED. Who wants to wait for the 5th?
2033
we're just about 10% of the way there
Finally found a link to the placing of the 2023 block. I've waited 10 years to see this.
Translation of text,'
'Wemding was first mentioned in documents in 793. 1200 years later - in 1993 - this was celebrated with a big city festival. This incredibly long period of time inspired the artist Manfred Laber, who was born in Wemding, to create a long-term art project: If you place 8x8, 6x6, 4x4 and 2x2 cuboids on top of each other in four levels, you get a pyramid made of 120 stones. If you only place another stone every 10 years, the entire process will take a total of 1,200 years until the work is completed. This makes Wemding's extremely long existence understandable and thus creates a mental bridge between the past in 793, the present at the time of the city festival in 1993 and the distant future in 3193, when the pyramid will be completed.
This year it's time again for another decade stone to be set. The Wemdinger Time Pyramid Foundation warmly invites you to witness this memorable moment. The supporting program includes contributions from Dr. Mathias Listl (art historian & curator of the Museum for Concrete Art, Ingolstadt) and Michael Münker (De Letters van Utrecht).''
Today was the first time I heard of this monument, and it really makes want to visit in 10 years from now, to the placement of the 5th stone (i hope i will be in good health for it). 😊
Went to this monument in july 2023 as a comical tourist stop while I was in germany. glad to finally see the fourth block placed, it's interesting to see a crowd at this site.
hope i live long enough to see the first row completed
I will be 32 years old when the 5th block is placed. If I’m lucky, I could live to see the 2093 block installation.
If we are lucky, we will see that row of blocks completed
I'll probably be dead by the time the 2093 block is placed but it would still be cool to see
I will be 20
Hoping hard that stuffy gets same vantage point every 10 years 👀👏🥹

I wonder if Vsauce has watched this yet?
He has
See you all in a decade
I will be 26 when the 5th block will be placed.
I wonder if the concrete will last 1200 years.
Perhaps the plan will be changed to not put blocks on top of blocks, but just in one plane, to see the past crumble when the time passes.
I'm curious on what to do with the oldest block when it reaches more than 100 years (typical lifespan of modern concrete structures), and god forbid if it erodes will the future children gonna patch it?
Change the plan to have them all on the same level.
The decaying blocks will still signify the passing of time.
The first block was placed the same year I was born, completely irrelevant but I like it😂
incredible
I emailed tom scott about this a year ago and he said it was already on his list. I wonder if he made a video about the placement of the fourth block
Matt Parker was there; mentioned in last podcast episode of A Problem Squared.
I'm sure he would have mentioned if Tom Scott were there; they have done collabs before.
Finally the moment of truth
Time to wait for 2033
Yep
I wish there were at least captions to auto-translate
Or you just learn German.
@@daveking-sandbox9263 “just” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
But yea I dived into that once and found I didn’t have the time for it. Maybe someday
was looking for syalp
At no moment I was on camera.
Was nice there though!
Something tells me that placing a block on top of the first block in 600 years isn't going to go too well.
Mehr Beton, weniger Pflanzen, toll!
It is not specified that all blocks are to be concrete.
