  • Early last month, I was looking in the Hot Wheels isle at Walmart and came across this Fast & Furious nano scene set by Jada. I was intrigued with this set at first because of the small size, which reminded me a lot of the classic Micro Machines that I grew up with. Of course, because this sets main focus was the railroad crossing and the train, this was the main reason I I grabbed this set and decided to take a look at it.
Upon getting the set out of the box, I find there's a lot of assembly to be done. While putting everything together however, a lot of the street parts were very difficult at times and didn't want to key in place. The train tracks were also problematic to assemble, as there are only little pins and nubs which hold the pieces together. The additional street signs and such took a little back and forth looking at the instructions, but were rather easy to install without any issues.
With the set assembled however, I start to question my purchase. As mentioned before, parts of the set did not go together that well, and it shows in the assembled state. The train in this set is a major letdown as it does not look that great, and in fact doesn't even work on the tracks as it constantly derails and/or gets caught on the set. I also find that the accessory pieces are also bent out of shape, only adding to my disappointment. The only part of this set that I feel is quality is the cars themselves. They're made of diecast, painted and detailed very well, and are the only redeeming feature this set has.
In all I can honestly say that I don't feel I've got my $20 worth with this set. The issues I've found with the lack of quality have really disappointed me, especially when I had such high expectations for this set when I first saw it. I personally feel that had a little more effort been put into the train and track, it would be far better value than it is. All that being said, I don't recommend buying this set unless you plan to only display it.

Gotta say man you have really outdone yourself with the time lapses. It’s great.
A very interesting toy/model. And a bit bigger than I expected from the box

I dont remember where i saw it, probably facebook or Twitter but someone customized this set to work on an N scale train layout and painted the locomotive and gave it new trucks and wheels, turning it into a dummy unit on his layout

That's very interesting. Only thing I'm not sure about though is the fact the locomotive in this set appears to be a few sizes bigger than N scale, so I'm not sure how it would fit in on an N scale layout. I'll have to see if I can find that video as I'm quite curious now.

@@PlowBenderStudios well the person never showed it connected to a train just off to siding if I remember correctly so that might be why but from what I've seen with the other set, the house and car are almost to perfect scale with most N scale buildings and vehicles so I don't see why this set wouldn't with a little work except for like you said with the locomotive

Just ran a Google search and there's several Rio Grande ones which pop up. I'm going to say that's exactly what we have here, all be it a very poor representation...

This set is major letdown and a major shelf warmer.
