She was performing in Spanish for a African audience. No one in the crowd understood a word she was saying and still were grooving to her music. That says a lot.
it might say that international audiences are more open to visiting artists, and they enjoy the music more that those folks who get stuck in rejecting a singer just because they cannot understand what he/she is saying.
We do know that when English speaking singers go on world wide tours , in many countries, only few in the audience understand the words, but surely it looks as if everybody has a great time.
They understood the rhythm and the soul of the song and that's all that matters.
Music is the universal language. 😁😁😁
The history of Cuba and the Caribbean is very interesting. The music, rhythm, and beats was greatly influenced by the African slaves who were brought by the Spanish to work the sugar cane and tobacco fields. Spain was a major player in the Atlantic slave trade, one of the biggest slave traders was Portugal, who brought over 4 million Africans to Brazil.

This Cuban Legend is the Queen in the Latin music community. She was winning Grammys well into her 70s! Love her so much! 😍✌️
Facts , shout out to my Idol Ray Barretto on the percussion, RIP! he had those African Tumbao rhythms on smash ...... love Celia Cruz RIP Queen! #salsa4ever
There isn't enough good words to describe Celia. She overcame a lot. She is a class act!! She will be forever missed.
That's right she's the queen

🥰
OMG, I love that song!!!! I play it now because of the times we're in. Perfect!
She was in her 40's at the time, yet she has more energy and appeal than most of today's performers. Celia was a legend.
she was 49 years old there…. a true legend
From a Mexican Italian she was Our Hispanic Queen la Reyna Morenita we will Always love her RIP Celia Cruz
La negra tiene tumbaooo
African ancestry is sacred!!! All of this is African chants. She tapped into this in her career! She loved herself so much and it radiates!!!
I got to meet her several times and she was an amazing person. I am a pharmacist and I had the opportunity to meet her and Pedro. She was the queen of Cuba.
She will forever be the queen indisputably 🇨🇺🇵🇷

La Reina de Cuba
She is and always will be LA REINA!
There are masters, icons, legends and then... there's Celia!!! *All hail the QUEEN* ❤❤❤
To us Cubans she was our Queen. We can't listen to this without dancing. Celia runs in our blood. There are also Afro-Cuban and religious connotations to the song, difficult to explain. Just enjoy and let it flow. Thank you for sharing.
I was 12 yrs when I got this album for xmas and my auntie taugh me my first salsa moves.. Today at 56 I can say, if you are Latino and your feet dont move when you hear the beats Of quimbara...you must be death.
It's impossible to stay still.😄😄😄
I don’t know hoy to dance salsa, my aunts and friends have tried to teach but I I just can’t xD Even with that I can’t stay still
And probably those already dead, dance to this.
I seat dance if I'm driving! I don't care if people stare. Stereo up, windows down, body moving!! All hail the queen!! ❤❤❤❤
@@YaKevinCR this wouldn't be a salsa dance problably a more AFRICAN dance.
She loved singing & entertaining and loved her audience and in return her audience returned that love to her live.... You did not stay sittibg at any of her concerts... Unless you were paralized, by the middle of her first song you were up and dancing... And she dance right through her concerts and did not lypsynch...all the wait until her death... The best thing that has come out of Cuba. Keep in mind she was born in 1925 abd this concert was around 1973 or so, so she was in her late 40's... No one ever has had half the energy Celia brought to her perfornances.
Yep. She was 48.
This is the reason she was and still is the Queen of Salsa music.
Please react to "La negra tiene tumbao"
Myrcella Ackerman love it!!!
Oh that video tho lmaooo
Myrcella Ackerman La Negra Tiene Tumbao is my ring tone and i can’t speak any Spanish but i feel music is universal and transcends language barriers

The director of the band is Johny Pacheco - Dominican 🇩🇴
he sure is.
So what?
SUPA LEXY it matters to me, because I’m Dominican and extremely proud of him, he compose music for Celia Cruz and other artist of her caliber. As a matter of fact the album that this song “Quimbara” is on is a joint album of the two artists and that album is called “Celia Cruz y Johnny Pacheco”. The author of Quinbara by the way is Junior Cepeda who is Puerto Rican.

Celia Cruz is fabuloso!!
Absolutely. 😄😄😄
Esos fueron después de los grandes, Ismael Rivera, Chamaco Ramírez, Celia Cruz, Héctor Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, Lebron Brothers etc
🎤🎶📖🎼💯JOHNNY PACHECO🇩🇴 he inherited his passion for music from his father, Rafael Azarias Pacheco, who was the band's leader and clarinetist in the "Santa Cecilia Orchestra". In the late 1940s, when Pacheco was 11 years old, his family moved to New York City from his native Dominican Republic. He continued to hone his musical skills, learning to play the accordion, violin, saxophone, and clarinet. He attended the Juilliard School of Music to study percussion. Playing the flute, saxophone, and varied percussion, Pacheco performed with Charlie Palmieri's Latin Orchestra for several years before forming his own band in 1959. Experimentation was the focus of his new band, combining African music from Cuba, the Dominican Republic. and Port. Rich heritage in what became known as salsa. In 1960, he organized his first orchestra, "Pacheco y Su Charanga". The band signed with Alegre Records and their first album "Johnny Pacheco y Su Charanga" sold more than 100,000 copies in the first year. From then until the end of 1963, Pacheco introduced a new dance fashion called "Pachanga". He became an internationally renowned star and toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Also, "Pacheco y Su Charanga" was the first Latin band to headline the Apollo Harlem, NYC in 1962 and 1963.💯🎶📖😇
She will always be the Queen. We can't hear her and not let our roots come through our souls.
"LA NEGRA TIENE TUMBAO" Celia Cruz.💃💃💃💖
We won’t see other artist like her in a long time. That kind of love, personality, voice. One in a million.
You know she was the absolute queen above all when Hector Lavoe in his prime gets pushed to backup singer. Her smile and her energy stole shows before she ever sung a note
La vida es un carnaval de celia cruz is a must!!
My favorite! 😀
The Queen!!! Have danced to this song millions of times! I went to a Cuban club many years ago where Celia was performing and I couldn't stop dancing!!!! Long live our Queen!!!!
Love Celia Cruz ❤️

It's different because it's the energy of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Caribbeans. Este es el ritmo fuerte de nos ancestros Africano...

This is my son's favorite song for me to sing to him. He's 3 years old. We share the same birthday. Santa Celia's Day. Guaguanco!! She is definitely the QUEEN only one.
We still dance this in every party, i really love that you react to this music, is in our dna.
I hope one Day you came to latín América just to dance.
You are all in the presence of royalty, our Eternal Queen CELIA CRUZ, from Santos Suarez to the world. Humble, beautiful, AZÚCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah! She is the QUEEN! ♥️💃🏻
I grew up on her music. On Netflix there is a show based on her life is called Celia.
Celia Cruz was , is and always will be the authentic voice of my beloved Cuba , her music and powerful voice touched the five continents and I think beyond. The Queen of Salsa music will live for always . We love you Celia !!!!!!
A Cuban queen... loved for the whole world and missed so many
The dance is “guaguanco”
So happy to see the Queen of Salsa on Celia Cruz. She does a latin version of "I Will Survive' (Yo Vivire) and even sings it in Spanish. Check it out!
17 years afte rher death she still and will alway be "la reina" the queen, and the song pretty much about the sound of the music and how good it makes you feel kudos from DR
I'm glad u did a reaction to the queen of salsa songs.. her biography is so cool. From a poor country (cuba) also treated different for being black but she became wanted all over latin america... we all love the mixed African beats.. like my country for emaple..( honduras) it's all about that african beat..

More reactions of Celia Cruz please 😭💗
she was and still is the ONLY AFRO LATINA THAT MANAGED TO REACHED WORLD STARDOM WITH HER MUSIC! TO THIS DAY NO OTHER AFRO LATINA HAS MANAGED TO ACHIEVE WHAT CELIA CRUZ DID! to us afro Latinos she is a legend, the legend that made the Latin world acknowledge our existence! to this day male afro Latinos have more chance of becoming world-famous then us girls! a fine example of that is Ozuna! Amara la Negra is an exception to that rule because she started out in America! even so with all the support, Amara got in the USA she still didn't manage to achieve what Celia Cruz did in her career!

@Fabiola Lopez with how things are going I think it will take another 100years for latin america to accept that we are part of their community too!
@shaiska same goes for centroamericans and other countries on the south. The latin music is just lead for some countries, and the rest are just invisible regardless of color.
@@shaiskaI think you’re misunderstanding. The problem in Latin America is colorism, for a long time I hated my native roots and wishing that I look like someone the fully blooded white men that I saw on magazines. I’m whiteish and always wanted to claim I was white even though my mom clearly isn’t. We need to stop hating ourselves and that also stems into the Afro-Latino conversation
That's the beauty of our culture. It comes in all colors, shapes and forms. Except the unexpected. Laughs, cry and dance in the process. Love ya'll!
I grew up in Caracas Venezuela listening Celia Cruz, Fania, Oscar de leon, Sonora Poncena, Ruben Blades, Aretha Louise Franklin, Louis Armstrong, I wanted to live in NYC or New Orleans, At the age of 25 when I finished college, I made a big decision move to NYC... Dream come true!!!! Love music 😍today 21 years ago.
When she was on stage, all get the vibe and happpyness. She's the QUEEN!!!

*A* *LEGEND*
Celia was very entertaining to watch I've watched a few of her videos and her biopic on netflix she loved playing with live bands because she fed off their energy she refused to record without a live band for that reason
My mother bought me this concert on DVD and I remember that I repeated 13 times the same day. lol My sister were tired of me listing to it all day. I love all kind of Salsa (Son, Guaguanco, Guaracha), Merengue, Mambo, Bomba, Plena, Tropical music with pure soul. Caribbeans in the house! Puerto Rico, Dominic Republics and Cuba musics is life.
Dope! Alot of words and chants she uses have roots in Santeria a carribbean off shoot of west african yoruba voodoo that's "la Madre" the Mother. Listen to "Bemba Colora" live at Yankee stadium Fania all stars and Celia Cruz incredible.
Yes! When I dance to her, se me mete el santo. It is something my family used to say 😉
You are right. She’s the queen. . Love her music ❤️🙏🏼
I love you reaction in this one. So open, respectful, ,embracing our culture .. and yes, you got it right.. Celia, it's our queen 🤗🤗
I was so lucky I saw her live in LA 1994 AZUCAR Celia I love you!!!
Wow! First time watching this video and totally grooving in that vibe here in my couch lol. I was first introduced to Celia Cruz when I was a child about the time this concert was happening. I watched her on Sesame Street and never forgot her and remember her "Azucar" back then.
Dear Celia, we all love you so much. Greetings from Mexico.
It is incredible that Celia Cruz came to Africa in 1974 in the company of the greats of salsa! This is joy, energy and a lot of talent !!!! From Cuba to the world!
A beautiful thing is to see the actual Africans dancing and understanding what is she is saying signing alongside with her .
Yes. I loved this. Please react to more Celia Cruz. I'm from Mexico but grew up listening to her. She's a legend.
I love Celia ... I love her music her energy. Your reaction is great!!! If you think her energy was on point her hair game was even better girl rocked some fantastic hair!
She was an amazing woman, her life story is heartbreaking but she always put her best out there for her fans. Her energy and love for music and entertaining just made her performances out of this world. The Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz RIP.
Celia Cruz is ICONIC!!!! If you know you know!!! This song is my absolute favorite. Just so much energy. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love seeing reactions to our Ce!ia she is the Queen of the Caribbean and we miss her every day. Azurcar!!! Thank you for doing this reaction.
She's got that energy until her last day, a beautiful human being ❤
Rumba cubana ! This music is pure magic. Not only a display of extremely dedicated musicians. But it will go through your ears into your blood stream and every single cell of your body. You can feel it. You may not know how to move to it but you can feel it
And the conductor of the orchestra ( who briefly danced rumba with Celia) is the great Johnny Pacheco. Another one of the greatest of Latin Afro Caribbean music
Ceila cruz is legendary. Love her.
look for the song called the yerberito de celia cruz
A concert back to the 70’s in South Africa that Broke all records of audience that where fascinated of a black singer...!
This was a historic time in music. The drums and rhythm that traveled with the slaves from Africa to the Americas returned to Africa as guaguanco with those same drums being complimented by European instruments and a lot of Afro-Caribbean pride.
Celia Cruz = ENERGY + LOVE. Music has not frontiers :D
one of the greatest latin legends of all time
oh to have been able to watch her in the 60s and 70s. pure class and pure energy. puro amor y pura emoción. como me encanta a celia.
She is my favorite singer❤️
Celia Cruz is an icon!!! Love your reactions! Stay cool! More!!!
This is our queen Celia!😍 U see that man who got filled by the spirit! She dabbled in Cuban Santeria which comes from the Yoruba religion as my family does, she could do that to you w her music n her frequency, especially in person!
Celia por siempre!!!
I had the great fortune to see Celia Cruz and Tito Punte at Kimballs East in Oakland CA in the early 90s. I will never forget! Everyone in the place was dancing, everyone. bartenders waiters even the security guards. Ever since thats what I think heaven will be like. No hate ,no differenced, just pure love and rhythmic joy all together dancing.
¡Larga vida a la Reina! 👑
Long live the Queen! 👑
Celia Cruz was our queen from Cuba, very, very famous rumba singer!
I'm so glad I had the chance to meet her. When I saw her perform, I was like in a trance. So powerful.
Fania Records is a New York-based record label founded by Dominican composer and conductor Johnny Pacheco and former Brooklyn-born New York City police officer and former American attorney Jerry Masucci in 1964.
She is the Queen of Salsa, she is legendary to us Hispanics. I got to see her live in Miami with my mom. As old as she was at the time Celia Cruz rocked it and put on one hell of a show.
Let me remind you this was in Africa and that's how much Celia Cruz is loved around the world music has no barriers.
Celia RIP! She was always on point. She was the epitome of elegance of the late 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. JLO, Gloria Estefan. Shakira idolized her. She gave all Latina singers a Benchmark to strive for. Enjoy!😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Celia Cruz 💕😍
This is the best Celia Cruz's song to me.
Para mí esta es la mejor canción de Celia Cruz.
Pacheco always rocked with her!
I did back up for her in Miami, for a few years...That powerful ring to her voice, was soo natural and awesome...It's a scating song...
Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...Hey mama, hey hey mama...The rumba is calling me, bongo tell her I'm coming...Tell her to wait for a moment, while I sing this wa wan co....Tell her it's not out of contempt for her, for she lives in my heart...My whole life is about, a good rumba and wa wan co...Hey mama, hey hey mama...OMG!..What a mess...And it says...Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...If you want to have fun and you want to dance, Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...Teresa dances it and also Jose-ito...Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim. on the low...KIMBARA!...
And, you are soo right...She was the Queen of Cuban music...The King was Beny More...Maybe you should do him also...Listen to this link before you see the video and then look at the video...Since he was very particular of the instruments and if one missed a note, his fine ear would tell him on the spot and the musicians were soo attend to his every move because he had to direct the band to be pleased...He was a character indeed...He would be booked at a club for a gig and he would find a girl the night before, get drunk and not show up...LOL...Then out of the blue the band would show up at the club and play for free...The club owners would not mind, because as soon as one person would see him, they would run and call the people and the place would fill onto the streets...People would follow him on the streets to the point, he had to move to Mexico for a few years...LOL...Where ever he stepped, it would turn into a party...When he was 7, his mother said she was checking up on the kids at 1 AM and could not find him, so she ran to the streets looking for him...She heard music and there she found him entertaining most of the towns people...They were soo intrigued, she could only stand there and watch him until 3 AM...LOL...When Michael Jackson did his famous little screams, I was well accustomed to it, because i heard it from Benny for many years before...LOL...Too bad youtube doesn't have too many live recordings of him with the band...Most are clips from Mexican movies he did while in Mexico and they aren't the real Benny from Cuba...PS,there's no such thing as "Salsa music...It's all Cuban rhythms thrown into one word and it's not Puerto Rican music, but Cuban music done by Puerto Rican musicians...Don't let them fool you...It's mostly african slave music, done with european flair... And we have we have Ernesto Lecuona to thank for that..LOL...Enjoy!....czcams.com/video/IVxR6budYKM/video.html
She is an icon!!! In the Hispanic community and beyond she was a great big light that could never be replicated
Celia Cruz was and most probably wil be forever the Queen of latin rhythms nobody is close. her energy was overwhelming in a great way
Celia just amazing ❤️
This was a great performance. If you can see the whole show check it out. I believe James Brown also performed that night. Celia Cruz is a legend! Also, funny how much she & Patti Labelle resemble one another in younger photos. They did a live performance together, I think it may have been this song.
That was our Queen Celia !!! May she be the happiest in heaven !!
The legend that is Celia Cruz. True the energy was so incredible. You should do Bambolelo it is absolutely amazing as well.
What you're watching is Africa recognizing itself. The instruments are different, the language is different, but so much of Celia's singing and the way she uses her voice is intentionally African. Brings me to tears every time.
