Being honest I was just happy we salvaged an awful season. I just hoped for a better season, but knew we would not be challenging for the league title anytime soon
Those 6 or 7 games in the Fa Cup are possibly the most important games in the history of English Football. After watching the Fergie documentary I'm in no doubt, finishing 13th in the league, he would have been sacked had Utd failed to win the cup and boy, did they come close. No one would remember the name Alex Ferguson outside of Aberdeen and history would have looked a lot different. So who would have dominated the 90's then? I've thought about this and believe it would have been Leeds if they held on to Cantona, which I believe they would have because no other manager would touch him aside from Fergie. Then again Leeds hardly put up a fight when Fergie came knocking, so who knows which other club would have scooped him up.
The fact is had Mark Robins not scored that goal Fergie would not have been sacked regardless of the fan pressure to get him booted. Martin Edwards himself said his job was never at risk because of the work he was putting in the club.
@@jackr5407 I’m just repeating Edwards words at the time. None of the board wanted Ferguson gone because they could see he was going to get it right. The fans didn’t know what was going on behind the scenes.
Said back in march that this season felt like the 89 90 season...was 12 at time, just hope we have another 26 years of what fergie gave us 😊
My favourite season, terrible in the League but you could really feel that something special was about to happen especially after the Forest game.

That's easy for him to say now. After going from 2nd, to 11th, to 13th and winning nothing he would've gone
