That stripped and clear-coated stem looks almost like titan - nice!
Altogether this bike hasn't seen too many miles - it was just neglected. Happy to see it back on the road!
Cheers! Happy with how the stem turned out. You’re right looks a bit like titanium! Yeah the bike was in way better shape than I thought it was when I picked it up. The wheels were so rusted haha , luckily I was able to save them
@@garysprojects I have a bike I’m gonna use the tin foil on the wheels! Is there anything I can put on TV e spikes for the future?
Rust converter or wd-40 can help put a coating on it to protect it
Great restoration, I did about 6 years or more doing bike restoration, i would about 8 bikes from carboot on a Sunday at 5.00am some bikes i converted to electric
That’s awesome I have one electric bike - the xtra cycle , super handy to have
Nice work Gary, I love seeing the budget builds. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you my dude I appreciate that. Will do my best ! Cheers
From megacrusty to quite nice. Not high end, but absolutely rideable and I guess enjoyable. Great work!!
Yes ! Definitely not high end but a nice bike that will last a few more years for sure 👍 cheers mate I appreciate that 😊
Rad build, Gary! Love those bars.
Thank you my dude I appreciate that ! 🙏😊
New cockpit and a good clean and it looks sensational 👍
Definitely! Just takes a little elbow grease here and there and you’ve got yourself a stunner !
I recently picked up a Wheeler Crossline 1600 for free and is now in the process of restoring it. I cant seem to find any information on this model bike at all. This video has helped a lot. Love the attention to detail, keep up the great work Gary.
Thank you my dude I appreciate that! Yes sometimes hard to find information on old bikes , glad this was helpful cheers !
another great bike rescue, thanks Gary, nice colour too
Cheers Reece I appreciate that! Yes agreed, purple goessss
Purple is always a cool bike color. This bike looks great. Great work!
hell ya i love purple bikes too ! cheers Colby i appreciate that thank you !
There are 2 types of people in the world: people that really like the color purple and people with bad taste.
@ZachGallardo: czcams.com/video/ky0g26SFwV8/video.html
what a sweet build mate .... deb and i watched this one twice (back to back) .... always had a soft spot for these old Wheelers. Great work mate.
Thank you my dude I appreciate that !
❤❤❤ very nice easy to follow rebuild. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you dude glad you liked it !
Very nice build Gary. Love the color
Thank you my dude , purple always works well 👍
Stoked! That’s a goodie! I just got a Bianchi Mega Pro 90s. Much respect!
Hell ya that’s a cool bike !! Nice catch
Im just looking the whole video. This is art. Very good job.
Thank you my dude I appreciate that !
These videos are very helpful for me, I'm trying to learn how to break apart, clean, lube and fix my bikes. Little scared at the moment so I'm just gatering information and tools 😂
cheers mate i am glad! yes just gather your parts and take your time, you will be able to do it!
Yeah man! The crazy part seems the derailleurs can you salvage old derailuers or is it better to buy new?
Absolutely brilliant mate 👏🏽
Thank you my dude !
Maaan that's a good one! Came out lovely i must say, and cool to see more of a resto build where most of the parts gets reused! Proper!
Cheers mate ! Glad you liked it. Yea if the parts are thrashed good to reuse otherwise it will be hard rubbish 😂
Another good build. Thanks again for the tips and tricks. Just realised I’d made a couple of errors on my bike as I watched your video so that was super helpful.
Thank you ! No worries glad it’s helpful , I find myself sometimes having to go back and fix things too ! Cheers
This looks sick! I was literally thinking that it gave me nostalgic road trip vibes then you said it. I love how experimental and outlandish everything was back then. MTBers were weird and wonderful. I feel like that vibe has gone these days.
Bring the vibes back !! Good times 😃 cheers my dude I appreciate that !
@garysprojects That's so weird. I thought I commented this on your vintage MTB show vid. Must be watching too much Gary!
@@chrisarnold462 hahah that is weird !! Thanks for watching 😊😂
Stripped T-bone looks sick!
Ayyy cheers mate! Definitely my favorite part of the bike 🙏😊
beautiful work Gary
Thank you David I appreciate that !
Looks warm there I'm JEALOUS!
Hahah yes the weather is nice out here 😊
You're damn right I'm all about that stem (and correctly installed of course). I've been looking forward to this video ever since you teased the Tomac T-Bone ad recently. I saw that same ad in MBUK as a kid and started saving my money. A long, low stem was the first upgrade we'd make to our cheap MTBs to make them look pro.
Hahah yesss! I thought you would appreciate that stems positioning ! Yes tbone is a classic, I’ve been looking for a small enough frame where I can run a stem like that and not kill my back haha. Definitely looks pro!! Thanks for the inspiration, Cheers mate!
Another great build! ❤
thank you my dude!
ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНО -восстановил и сделал как игрушка прекрасная классика --за выдержку и старания отдельное -- БРАВО .
Thank you very much I appreciate that !! 🙏😊
Love the handlebars.
Cheers mate !
Thanks for another great video Gary! I feel like I need a purple bike in my stable. N+1😂
Hahah always need a purple bike in the stable 🐴
Super cool handle bar 😊
Thank you !
Love the video and another great build. You tighted the levers just enought to hold them. For motocross I used to add Teflon pipe tape. This would allow your levers to rotate without breaking.
Thank you I appreciate that ! Ooo that’s an interesting tip cheers!
beautiful build!
Thank you i appreciate that ! 🙏😊
Thanks for the video. My little project is a gt timberline in to a commuter.
Thank you ! Awesome will make a good commuter
Love the ikea hack. !❤ That came up very nice.👍👍
Cheers mate!! I appreciate that 🙏😊
DW40 should sponsor this guy..good job dude.
Haha maybe one day , cheers !
Enjoyed this one as I enjoyed all the others. Great looking bike. I'm working on a '92 Rockhopper at the moment and wanted to reuse as many parts as possible as well, but sometimes they are just worn out. Both hubs have worn races and the crown race was pitted too. I will get it running eventually.
Thank you my dude I appreciate that. Ahhh yes sometimes when it’s worn out gotta replace them unfortunately! Good luck with the build , good bike! Cheers
Nice job ! Great that you keep the bike stock. Inspiring for us home mechanics. I could recommand you iron whool (if you don't already know) to get rid of the rust. It seems more effective and less abrasive than metallic brush or sand paper !
Thank you my dude yes I have to try that one ! I know you can get different grades like sandpaper but never tried it yet. One for future projects. Cheers !
as always great job and super interesting video 💪🚲🌞♥
Thank you homie i appreciate that ! 🙏😊
Looks good dude nice job🤙
Thank you my dude I appreciate that 🙏
Awesome vid, I really needed to see this today. I bought an old 26er with broken grip shifters and was way too tempted to keep modding!
That’s awesome ! Are you planning to fix them or switch em
@@garysprojects tried fixing them but they completely disintegrated so I'm going to swap for 3x7 trigger shifters instead of converting to 1x.
@kwok57 good idea 👍
Wow. Just watched the full vid whilst cooking. Superb work. I missed something when you soak all the parts to get rid of the rust, what are you soaking them in? Thanks for sharing all these tips and tricks, it's so useful for those of us embarking on bike restoration.
No worries ! Thank you I appreciate that. I soaked them in Evaporust ! Works quite well and is reusable
@@garysprojects brilliant, thanks for getting back to me!
Another cool one…really like these purple ones…put some pink tires on and get „toasty“😉😎
Thank you ! Hahah yesss toasty it up !
Reminds me of my current Trek 800 Sport project. Deep clean and keep as original as possible. New grips on and debating if I purchase flat/MTB pedals for commuting.
Hell ya sounds good !
Great, you saved another bike 😊👍
Thank you! Happy I did !
Superb 👍
Cheers mate !
nice 1 gary
Thx u Jomel 🙏
As always awesome 💯💯💯💯
Thank you my dude !
Well done 👍✅
Thank you Matthew I appreciate that 🙏
Wow, amazing gave that bike whole new life! Have you a link for the handle bars installed, please?
Cheers mate, yep here they are:

Cool build, love the color.
Gum wall tyres would've really set it off.
Cheers mate I appreciate it !
Great Video! I can't find the link for the handlebars though, they're exactly what I'm looking for...
cheers mate ! KD Kobe handlebars from eBay
Awesome thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Cheers mate!
34:42 I found this stuff called Autosol that polished metal super well. Have you ever used it? It would even out the shine on this stem.
Yes autosol would work well! Like liquid sandpaper 👍
pretty decent job !! nice bike after restored , may i know what kinda chemical you use to soak those rusty parts to get rid those rust instead of scrubbing them with scotch ?
Thank you my dude I appreciate that ! The liquid is called Evaporust , works very well 👍
Good video Bro, What liquid do you use in the large container to clean the parts?
Thank you my dude it’s called Evaporust
You could do with an ultrasonic bath kit
Yes I want to try one day !
I really enjoy your videos, for chill and also learning a lot.
What always bothers me is, why are you not using cable housing ends? My inner monk goes crazy about that!
Haha yeah I should use them, trying to save on plastic I guess 😂
Good job gary can you put a link in for the bars thanks
Cheers mate , yep right here:

Looooonng ahh seatpost boi
🤣🤣🤣
that's how i do brakes as well
Awesome ! Good way to do them
Daaaaang!
Thanks g!!
What sort of grease gun is that you're using and where do you source them from?
It’s a dual co grease gun, (I have a review video if keen) got it from beautbike.com.au
@@garysprojects ahh, thank you so much for the information I'll check out your review of it
Cheers 🙂
love this video so much , great job ! question : does this frame set support disc brakes ? i'm looking at getting a wheeler 2000 to turn into an ebike but there's not a whole lot of info on it
Oh nah this one doesn’t support disc brakes sorry !
@@garysprojects no worries at all , i appreciate u getting back to me
@@garysprojects follow up question : this bike will do caliper rim brakes fine tho right ? it looks like it will but i just wanna be sure
context : since discs won't work, researching the strongest rim brake pads i can . maybe even hydraulic rim brakes ? already know it'll be so much more than i'll buy the bike for, but it's def worth it for safety going at ebike speeds . if you have any recs for solid brands i'd appreciate it !
& again , thanks for all your input ! i'm still real green to the mechanic side of biking so your channel is super helpful
Mmm I’m not sure , this frame was made for canti/vbrakes , hope that helps cheers
@@garysprojects yup thanks again ! i just picked mine up for like 60 bucks , very excited to get into this restoration (eventually lol)
Love your style in using what you have rather than just dropping $$$ on parts. Great resto but even better vibes! Cheers 🍻
Cheers mate I appreciate that ! I try to make use of what I have because better to recycle!! Thank you 🙏😊
RIP METAL FILER
Hahah yes 😭😭😭 can still use it kind of
schweet!
Thank you ! 🙏😊
Nice build, but aaaah, the brake lever on the asphalt at the end😲
aiiiiiiiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 😂 cheers homie!
@@garysprojectsall good! It's a lovely looking bike. You've done an amazing job as always. Look forward to the next build. 👍
What are the bars? Where do I get them?!
FD Kobe bars from eBay cheers mate
Nice work. I would pull the wheel axles, clean and repack even if they spin free. Especially if I was investing all the time you did on this build.
Cheers mate ! Maybe I’ll do in the future
Yep, I've started doing that with every wheel I touch that isn't new. They tend to be in fairly dire need of repacking after a few years of neglect!
gutted to see steering wheel didn't win
🤣🤣🤣 would’ve been funny
I want you to get a sandblaster.
Hahah cheers mate would be a bit tight on my balcony though ! 😂😂
Dude don't use shifters to remove BB,they slip like crazy
It’s all I got
Steel wool and WD40 works the same, less of a mess and easier on your hands.
Thank you for the tip! Gotta try that one !
Where’s the link to the handlebars? I can’t understand your accent, lol.
eBay > Fd Kobe bars
How much WD 40 has gone into this build? 😅
2 gallons 🤣
I would've run it a 1by, they're better.
what makes it better ?
@@garysprojects it's easier to work with and no front derailleur. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
@@sir_jerhyn right on
@@garysprojects oh I'm a dumbass, "restoration" not upgrading. Sorry
@@sir_jerhyn haha doesn’t matter , I was just wondering what ppl think that prefer 1x , cheers mate
Can you make your content accessible by having actual closed captioning please? I'm Profoundly Deaf and the auto captioning sadly make it harder to watch.
I’ll look into it !!
Do you use this bike? Do you think its good commuter?. Im thinking on building something similar, mainly for shopping and commuting to work.
Ya it would make a good commuter it was a chill ride with good riding position , i have sold it on since 👍
