    Swamp environment is ideal for coal formation mainly. Terrestrial woody materials (humic type) washed away by rivers and deposited in deltaic environments results in mostly gas and a small amount of oil. For oil part, a marin environment is required at one point of Geological time frame. And the main kerozen(remaining of animal or trees decomposed by bacteria) for oil is marine organisms or plants. They produce best oil. There is a quality difference between oil produced from plants and organisms. Sediments deposited above the remainings without oxygen creates a anaerobic environment which after million years of deposition is followed by catagenesis stage(known as kitchen of hydrocarbon). Here there is temperature difference where 60-160 degree Celsius produces oil and 100-200 degree Celsius produces gas (gas and oil zone overlaps). And further more temperature is coal. So key factors which control the type of fossil fuel- source kerozen, depositional environment , temperature zones. And for it to become a reservoir, the fossil fuel (oil and gas) requires a migration process from origin rock(source rock) to a porous rock (reservoir rock) via cracks or buyoyancy characteristics. Fold and fault structure acts as traps for favourable accumulation of fossil fuel. But a seal rock above the trap is required otherwise the fossil fuel (oil and gas) will leak away. So the timing of migration must be after trap formation. So there are subsurface conditions for fossil fuel to be extracted in production stage.

    7:48 "This swampy condition will become anaerobic and cause the trees and forest to die."
    So the plant died because of lack of oxygen? Wait I thought plant consume carbon-dioxide and convert it into oxygen.

    • @iamlikeable2555
      @iamlikeable2555 Před 6 lety +1

      Plants need oxygen to survive, too. Yes, they do take in carbon dioxide in order perform photosynthesis, but this is only a way to gain food, or glucose. Photosynthesis is only used by plants because *most* of them (because pitcher plants are not autotrophs) cannot consume other organisms like us humans to gain glucose. Respiration, however, is what actually gives the plant ATP (energy), not photosynthesis. Because respiration requires oxygen, and respiration is vital to a plant's survival, the swamp trees depicted would die due to a lack of oxygen.

      What?
      Fair enough, I'll spell it out for you:
      Coal = Comes primarily from hard (dense) plant material.
      Oil (Petroleum) = Primarily comes from softer plant materials and animal remains.
      I hope that helps. :D

    Doesn't a process have to be duplicated and confirmed under the same conditions as theorized before it can be called fact?
    Isn't that what "science" is? Documented and proven facts through recreation?
    How can you duplicate and prove a process that takes millions of years and varying conditions to occur? Hmm.
    Seems like anyone can say anything and people just take it as fact. I mean, it's easier than thinking for yourself I guess.
