I'm Clement, nice to meet you! I have a passion for Indie Games due to how fun, creative and OUT OF THIS WORLD they can be, so this channel helps get the word out on the Best Indie Games.

I passed over The Last Faith as I'm feeling burned out on the grim dark souls like trope, but seeing how incredibly well done the animations and pixel art look, it's maybe worth a look.
Same here, I am so oversaturated on soulsvanias
Recommend taking a look at Cookie Cutter. An over-the-top 2D hand-animated sci-fi punk world in a nigh lawless land where it's hard to predict what's next, but still with lore, a lot of personality, earnest in the story (however cliché and tropey) it wants to tell, and combat gets a lot of options as you proceed. Starting out with only a combo, uppercut, air combo and downwards slam, but there's side weapons, "spells" and a special knockback that become always available at any time.
Devs want to continue supporting the game for a long time to come, if support allows for it.
Those are the only ones I play haha. Yeah man check it out! Can't go wrong it's a really good game.
Trust me it is the best metroidvania of 2023 better than Blasphemous 2 imo you should try it. There are many weapons, spells , and Guns which encourage build variety and there are 4 classes to try.
@malzagod1429 I need to go back for another playthrough. It's gonna be hard to choose anything other than the Whip, man that thing slaps! Maybe go guns scythe this time
You forgot Afterimage and YOHANE THE PARHELION BLAZE IN THE DEEPBLUE (simple but good game). I finished 5 games on this list and maybe give it a try to Convergence. 2024 is beginning with Momodora and Prince of Persia, so probably another good year for this genre.
Yohane looks solid for a metroidvania based on the Love Live franchise (although it seems little more than window dressing, with the girls in a fantasy setting)
I found that Lone Fungus was made by single person is really surprised. And that guy is already making a sequel now
Xanthiom Zero - The main advantage of this presentation is the clarity of what's happening. It's ultra retro (and micro) so that's according to taste but it's clear to see what's happening which is a bit of a struggle with some of the other titles albeit used carefully SFX can add a lot of immersion and gratification.
Blasphemous 2 - Same again really nice effects but clarity still reigns.
The Last Faith - As with above, the pixel art gothic horror is worth the price alone.
Tevi - movement and pace makes this look like a control-freak's dream game. Really tight and probably why I've heard so many good things about it. Think it's a great move to add in some bullet-hell with such tight controls all dressed up in anime-like whimsy!
Definitely a year of Metroidvanias. Although not solely a metroidvania but also an RPG Platformer, hard for me to knock -UnEpic - off it's perch from all those years ago as another indie classic blast-from-the-past but the modern generation certainly give it a good run for its money!
Thank you for the vids as always!
Pseudoregalia was my top 1 in 2023
never saw a game that allow first time players to break sequence
without knowledge or tactics
I guess the speedrun going to be lit
I just got bloodstained and astalon from humble bundle my first official metroidvanias. I only briefly played metroid on my cousins snes many years ago.
Rusted might be my goty. Just an overall joy to play and explore with such game physics
I still need to beat it. for some reason I got into my head that it's part of the Momodora universe.
do you mean Rusted Moss?
Finally, the video I've been waiting for.
you coould have shown more about laika for october month
What is the game from the picture?
Love this vid❤
I Was waiting for this vídeo...2024 Will be The year of metroidvanias, starting with Prince of Persia
After Bloodstained, Metroid Dread, and now PoP: The Lost Crown, you'd think more developers would realize there is a very large market for classic and "2.5D" Metroidvanias and try to capitalize on their market, rather than keep releasing Generic Competitive Shooter 16 featuring all your favorite maps and weapons from Generic Competitive Shooter 13-15 included in a 130% markup Gold Edition!
you didn't actually link laika in your post, you linked blasphemous 2 again but in gog
thanks for the catch
iconic like always
6:50 look interesting but i can't process the name after many double check, can i get the name please
Salt & Sanctuary
Last Faith is goated easily the best metroidvania of 2023
2:23 I can't quite catch the name of the game you're mentioning here, could you write it?
Moonlaw
@@Pionni Thanks, and it's free 🤑
@@rogshit Nice 😁👍🏿
What game was the thumb?
It's elderand
#25 on best game of the year video, snubbed on the metroidvania list. =)
Don't mind me. Just trying to learn the speedrun, so I might be a *little* invested into Afterimage~
Dude. Don’t know how I missed that out. I’m messed up man, too many late nights
Had glimmer in the mirror gotten any better since launch? To say that the initial release was “bland”, or “bare bones” would be the understatement of the decade, so I hope they have some good tricks up their sleeves to turn it around.
hmm Cookie Cutter seems like if the old action game "Chainsaw Lollipop" was made into a 2d metroidvania.
The devs of Cookie Cutter have a lot of love for a lot of media. They haven't mentioned Lollipop Chainsaw as such, but there's a BOATLOAD of easter eggs and references to other media, such as band and music artist posters or album covers, some drawings of characters from cartoon shows (like Clarence and Gravity Falls), armor and helmets and action figures of video game characters, etc.
Got some shortcomings, but it's a very earnest, colorful and over-the-top game.
And made by woketards.
I'm baffled by the design of the protagonist. She's pear-shaped...
Call me shallow, but how many other people are just going to dismiss this game because the female MC is fugly?
Honestly, a bit disappointed with the year metroidvanias this year. Blasphemous 2 and The last Faith are probably the biggest hits (also, Tevi, although I am not following that one), and The Last Case of Benedict Fox one of the biggest disappointments. I tried Vernal Edge's demo and didn't enjoy it, but a lot of people did, so good for them (same story with Rusted Moss). I was also looking forward for Curse of the Dead Rats, but with those reviews didn't want to risk it. Elderand was also a pretty solid game, but nothing outstanding about it. I will try Deepening Fire and Lone Fungus at some point, but, besides that, a lot of the metroidvanias this year went almost unnoticed.
You might have forgotten to mention Afterimage, considering I have heard nothing but compliments from you to this game, but I didn't see it in this list (or maybe I am blind).
I just got Vernal Edge abd played about an hour or so and quit bc it was so boring for me. I went by reviews on PS and some other articles, but on the metroidvania subreddit a lot of people didn't care for it (and should have looked there too before I bought it). Honestly Blasphemous 2 is my favorite metroidvania from last year and Afterimage, while I didn't care for the story, is a VERY long game (40 hours I spent!!!!) so you get your money's worth with it.
@@jesk743 For me Vernal Edge felt too repetitive and the action wasn't fun enough to make up for it.
Oh, wow, I had no idea Afterimage was that long, that makes the price completely worth it.
I want more classic metroidvania, i don't like too much soulsvania...
Cookie Cutter is rather like that. Lead dev himself has stated that while he likes the Souls series, he wanted a game with less of that influence. Still a pretty tough game (and instakill spikes within one specific area) but there are loads of options as you continue on in the game, which he heavily encourages.
A game where you can use big fists, chainsaws and guitars for weapons isn't one that means to be a fairly realistic grimdark one.
Oh, and am I the only one who didn’t get excited about the new 8-bit castlevania that isn’t called castlevania? It looks like it could’ve been really special if they had at least thrown in modern day graphical effects, but to stick to a strictly bland 8-bit style without even a little pizazz seems extremely lazy to me (when you’re a company that essentially has unlimited resources)…the rocket knight lazy edition was also a huge disappointment!
Sorry, I'm confused, are you talking about the Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon games, or Infernax, or something else? Not being hostile towards your opinion, I'm just unclear as to what game or games you're referencing.
@@knivesoutcatchdamouse2137I’m not sure either, all those games you mentioned though were great, I wonder what he was talking about?
1st comment!
Metroidvania's should be called Belowtheroota's. Below the Root came out two years earlier, featured not only equipment that allowed you into previously-inaccessible areas, it also introduced gliding (yeah, like in Breath of the Wild).
Its not really about what came first but what was more inspirational. Games tried to be like metriod and castlevania because of their impact on the industry. But of course games came before them that influenced the making of the 2 games.
Its like how WoW was nowhere close to being the first MMORPG and yet every MMORPG that came after for several years got called a WoW clone.
Same for the MOBA genre getting called a DOTA and LoL clone but in reality, Aeon of Strife (the starcraft map) came before both and inspired DOTA allstars (the Warcraft 3 map which DOTA 2 and other MOBAs tended to be based on later)
Its not about what came out first but about what blew up first.
Before FPS where called FPS, they where called Doom-like, dispise Doom not being the first FPS. It just happen that Doom was the one peoples played and took inspiration from.
Smash bros wasn't the first plateform fighter either, yet peoples still call every plateform fighter a "Smash clone".
It's not about what comes first, it's about what's the most influential.
It seems like developers aren't making progress. Why does it have to be the same game genre every day? What will the general public's reaction be?
I totally agree with you.
I’ve played enough souls likes and metroidvanias. I’ll just stop buying, we need something different.
Cookie Cutter looks sooooo bad for that character design and woke undertones.
