Agreed. That moment stuck with me as well. I think it's after that part that we see Katniss having the nightmare. The two might not be related but I have always thought it was possible that the little girl's comment brought on a nightmare.

He also finds out what her favorite food is and keeps bringing it to her in CF (cheese buns if I remember correctly, especially after she fell out of the tree and injured her foot). He’s just the BEST

The social commentary in this franchise is interesting enough as it it, but Suzanne making the people of the Capitol upset at the concept of the repeat Hunger Games *only* when Peeta reveals Katniss' 'pregnancy' might be the most brilliantly ironic commentary in this entire franchise.

I don't think it's at all related to the current psychotic misanthropy around LGBTQIA+ (mostly trans) people.
Because it wouldn't make sense for it to be "leave the kids alone" when the whole point of the Hunger Games is that the contestants are children. It does, however, fit perfectly with conservatives wanting to ban all access to healthcare related to bodily autonomy around birth specifically, while also declaring that kids don't deserve free lunches (should starve like they do in the books), that kids should be working in dangerous factory jobs (should do exactly that like in the books), and that kids should be forced to birth other children even as the victims of violent rape (not quite touching the rape part, but ONLY wanting to spare Katniss, a child, because she is pregnant and NEEDS to give birth. Then throw her back in the Games).

Haymitch was rich in district 12 😂 Gale was mad at katniss’s only friend in the book because she was the mayor’s daughter, he was mad at any kids who had more resources (food, clothes, etc) than him even if they were also poor like the merchant side of the district
Gale had a lot of anger towards anyone of higher means than him. If you've read the books than you also remember Mockingjay how he treated Katniss prep team and Effie. Problem with Gale is, or one problem anyway, that he let that anger consume him until he was turning into the very thing they had fought against. In the books that scene was also a big contrast to Peeta whom when Katniss asked him to run away, while he had reservations and yes some were about Gale, still was willing to do it for her without holding her feelings for him against her.

I've hated Gale from when I first read the books when I was 16. It's his whole attitude about anyone who has more than him. While I'm sure it parallels to the conversation on nepo babies and people with inherited wealth, what's happened in the THG series is worse. It's not like the merchant kids are that much better off than the people in the Seam. Peeta was abused by his mother, and burnt bread even though he knew the risk to save Katniss. Gale can't see the difference between the system and the people who are just trying to survive because we know he didn't feel bad about what he did in the final book except for how it hurt Katniss.

I just wanted to bring light to this part in the catching fire book. Katniss actually asked both Gale and Peeta if they would leave with her. Gale initially agreed to go with Katniss, but backed out when he found out that Katniss was planning on inviting Peeta too. But when Katniss asked Peeta, Peeta agreed to go without conditions and even said that Gale would want to go in spite of his reaction. That scene just made me realize how genuinely kind Peeta is compared to Gale. Don't even get me started on how toxic Gale is. ugh.

I hate Gale alot but I gotta say he didn't back out when he found out Katniss was inviting Peeta. He was upset about that, yes, but he backed out when he found out that a rebellion was starting and didn't want to abandon others during it.
@@lilithismybabydaddy452 Gale was already upset when he found out that Haymitch and Peeta were invited. Even if Katniss hadn't told him about the uprising, he was well on his way to back out. He argued with Katniss as to how Peeta's family could betray them and tried to convince her that it wasn't a good idea to bring Peeta. And that conversation of running away was already heading south. And for not wanting to abandon others during the rebellion? Sure. But what I understood from that scene in the books is he would abandon Peeta if he could leave with Katniss, and he would abandon Katniss for the rebellion. And sure he can be part of the uprising all he wants, he can save many lives in the process. and you can label it as not wanting to 'abandon people', but he's also willing to kill innocent people who are just mopping floors for the enemies. Gale has a blatant disregard for human life, especially for people who have had it better and haven't experienced the same suffering he has gone through.
Did Gale literally suggesting running away in book one and Katniss was like “nah, it’s better if my sister gets reaped and I’m forced to volunteer and be in love with some dude who threw some bread at me once.” But hey, now that she’s suggesting it, it can be taken seriously, y’know unlike she shoots that plan in the face by trying to cuck both love interests while not realizing why that’s an issue for the men.
That nod and look Cinna gives Katniss from the audience always gets me teary-eyed. He knew that Snow wouldn't accept it. He knew what would happened to him 😢
Cinna was a true revolutionary that clearly understands the importance of making an impact on laypeople. He knows the Capitol is OBSESSED with aesthetics and symbolism. So it wasn't enough to just have a contestant talk about her horrid experiences in the Games, but to make her a symbol they cannot forget. They will see the mockingjays in the sky and think of Katniss, of her suffering. They will see fire and think of the girl on fire. They will see Katniss and see an example of how the games punish the least deserving.

That was the moment I started crying. Both in the film, and the book. He knew. He knew, and he still gave his life for Katniss, and the hope of a better Panem.
Someone pointed out to me that not only did they kill Cinna right in front of Katniss but they also make sure she enters the arena in a spot where she couldn't see Peeta

The scene where Peeta mentions the baby is so perfect, it really shows todays society. Literally no one in the capitol cares about katniss a young women going to the arena who’s probably gonna die but they want the games to be canceled because of an unborn child.

@@Jordan_Dale Oh, no. Divergent is just questionable :( The books are decent, and so is the first movie. But everything went downhill so quick it got canceled. The theme was nice and the setup was interesting, but the characters were horribly written. Maze Runner did it much better.

Why were Divergents considered a threat to the faction system when the whole system is held by a single thread. Anyone can join any faction regardless of Aptitude Test results.... Which is bound to create either Divergents or Factionless people as a result. It tried to adopt the Districts (and many other components) from THG so bad but didn't understand their necessity. To compare THG and Divergent is like comparing The Last of Us and The Last Hope

Peeta is a KING! While Gale was constantly pressuring Katniss and guilt tripping her, Peeta was quietly suffering and willing to die. BABY!
I rewatched the movies, and in Mocking Jay part 2, when Katniss brings up all the little stuff she notices about Peeta even the way he ties his shoes, I knew right there she loved him more than Gale, that was it, and I think Gale knew it too because the look he gave, was like, “it’s over”.

Of all the characters, Effie has the most development.
Exhibit A: Look at her outfit. In the first movie and most of this one, it was all powdered faces, metallic lipstick and outlandish outfits.
Here, it's just a simple butterfly dress with natural looking makeup.
Because THAT'S the influence Katniss and Peeta had on her. Touring with them made her come around to actually LIKING them, not just for the sake of her job.
Exhibit B: The look on her face. Before she was more than happy to announce the tributes. Now? She's crushed, because this is the first time the tribute is someone she cares about.
So much development in these two movies alone.

and not to mention how much you see her truly start to care for them and she realizes everything wrong with the capitol.when she goes to 13 she is hesitant at first with the bland clothes but then learns that she is more than the flash look she once had.
Yes!! I think her wearing the butterfly dress was so brilliant. Butterflies represent transformation, and I believe the second reaping really was the moment Effie's political opinions transformed due to having to reap people she personally cared about. She of course still struggles with it after this moment, but that was when it really started hitting.
I always took Haymitch's yelling when Katniss woke him up with the water as his own PTSD from the games. Being woken up very suddenly like that would've meant danger in the games and even though his was so long ago that fear never went away
Don’t forget, his PTSDs on fire, because he was put into the position of having his name put into the reaping, AGAIN, because he figured out a way to get BOTH of his victims to survive the hunger games that forced all the victors int positions where they have to mentor children to a game of death.
I’m surprised he hasn’t killed anyone, then again with his PTSD he probably couldn’t suffer seeing anyone else says. Oh but wait he’s forced, every single year, to ooo exactly that by proxy of children’s he knows he can’t save.

I can’t tell you how disgusted I was when I found out my mother was team gale.
Honestly, my biggest complaint re: Gale is the mandated "love triangle" nonsense. It really would have been enough for Katniss to have to watch the one person she trusted most in the world (outside immediate family) turn just as ruthless and bloodthirsty as the enemy they've both been fighting all their lives. It was stupid to set a "whom will she choose" thing when the answer was so obvious from the start that there never even was a question.
I think Suzanne Collins just added the love triangle because it was a trend at the time (Maybe her editors recommended her to do it), since it feels like she had it pretty clear how she wanted to finish her story.
Yeah I read someowhere that Gale was only supposed to be a cousin or something but then the publishers asked her to add a love triangle in the story so..

Agreed. It was faithful to the book while giving us the appropriate extra scenes. I only wish they had shown more of the growth of Katniss and Peeta's relationship, to show how it was turning real for her. But time restraints plus the need to keep up the love triangle didn't allow for that I guess.
Oh ash "the ballad of songbirds and snakes" is SOOOOO worth the read!! I didn't think I'd like it bc of the lack of peeta and finnick but my god Suzanne Collins has outdone herself, she's literally managed to harmonise with her own writing from the original books and has made it such an interesting backstory for Snow

He was in the following movies, they filmed a majority of his scenes before he died. I think in only a few scenes, they gave his lines to Haymitch or Effie.

Mags had a stroke or something and could speak but most people minus finnick could tell what mags was trying to say. I think Katniss got a bit of a hang of understanding her later on, but mags wasn’t really mute at all
Peeta is one of the best ones and I stand by him, he’s so sweet and pure, and he and Katniss are so cute together. I’ve been rereading and reading the part where she starts talking about watching him focusing on drawing and about his eyelashes had me swooning

As someone whose first fandom was hunger games (was that correct English lol?) and whose first celebrity crush is Josh hutcherson, I’m happy to see it. And I’m suspecting and hoping for that renaissance when the new movie drops.
Hopefully there will be a rise of popularity for my bae josh, cause he deserves it and ppl were all gale gale the first time around in 2013/2014.
Also josh is in the upcoming fnaf movie, so that paired with the new hunger games movie, I’m crossing my fingers for Josh. Not that his career isn’t successful but he deserves more shining light imo.
Edit: also yes catching fire was also my favourite Book and movie, even though it’s heartbreaking but then again the first one is special to me for so many reasons and also with rue idk, the last one is easily (!) my least favourite, that book got me so mad. Like honestly till today I didn’t watch the last, fourth movie bc I couldn’t handle what was happening in the third book with peeta, Finnick and etc.
IKR, hearing Ashley talk about how much better the chemistry between Josh & Jennifer is, and all I could picture was the Hunger Games Honest Trailer by Screen Junkies stating the complete opposite. To be fair, I more or less agreed initially, because I honestly didn't start feeling real chemistry between them until Catching Fire (another reason for what it's the best).
Josh is sooooo talented. He was one of my first crushes because of all the movies he was in before hunger games, but these movies just took him to another level of good.

@@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose okay fair though, bc in the first movie/book she wasn’t in love with him yet which also is definitely a factor! i mean personally I think peeta was always a better influence, someone that really brought a different perspective in Katniss life, with his calm, gentle and kind soul. Gale was basically her as a man. So I always loved josh more, subjectively bc of his personality and I liked him more, and because he was a good influence and maybe even someone she needed to meet.
Then again sometimes I do think gale and her would be the better fitting couple simply bc they are similar in a lot of ways, and were childhood friends and each others support system growing up which i love trope wise. I also at times had the feeling she didn’t really love peeta. Not bc she loved gale though. 😂
Ash, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is SO GOOD!!! it has so many parallels to Katniss and it really deepens the lore of the world. I cannot wait for this movie

Peeta is so great because he’s good with the crowd, very smart about what he says, he’s charming, nice and absolutely selfless. We love Peeta ❤️ (btw The ballad of songbirds and snakes is so good!! I was blown away, there’s always something going on and it makes you root for the younger snow but then you realize he’s evil 😭)

5:06 what I always found so interesting about that piece of hair falling is that it blocks our money shot but it doesn’t block the capitol’s since we’re seeing them from behind so it creates a sense of intimacy for us within their performance for the capitol. That just feels like very intelligent visual storytelling and careful thought. There’s tons of little moments like that sprinkled throughout that just help elevate this movie, 10/10

I can’t for the life of me repeat this more than I have already Ash: READ BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES!! The parallels are unmatched between Katniss and the female lead. The book is a close second to Catching Fire for the best in the franchise for me personally.

i recently reread the books and rewatched the movies and this is such a good example of how a movie can be so similar to the book and be successful there are so many book-adapted movies that stray from the plot points and character stories but the hunger games, in my opinion, was able to be successful while also staying true to the books. While Mocking Jay is my favorite book, Chatching Fire is definitely my favorite movie of the franchise, it's so good!!
