Making a 1978 K5 GMC Jimmy 200% More Live-able With Sound Deadening

- Yeah yeah, we know. Usually you’d expect us to spend hours removing sound deadening, and anything else that doesn’t help make a project lighter or faster. But look - sometimes, when it comes to a daily driver, it’s nice to be able to hear your phone/radio/etc. And a big block powered ‘70s Jimmy isn’t exactly the pinnacle of a quiet interior. So after wiring cleanup and whole lot of scrubbing, Zac and Dave drop in a whole bunch of Thermotec goodness.

I know you’re keeping it stock, but nothing will beat the sound of the boom tubes and that Texas Speed in Boomhauer. Just something special about an old squarebody screaming in a cloud of smoke.

I had a 1990 blazer. Sound deadining is the most crucial part to building one of these.

Zac should put some thermotec heat/sound shield on the insides of the doors. Those create a ton of noise when undeadened.

Last time I was this early, I ended up with a kid.
I wish there was an aftermarket wire harness, and dash gauge set up for my square body. I have a 1991 1-ton square body with 4L80E transmission, and since 1991 was the one and only year a square body came with a 4L80E trans it is a one year only wire harness design for both the engine compartment and interior dash.
Damn those Dakota gauges look amazing. Cant wait to get some for my K20.

Life hack brought to you by NaNaNa: Use a mixture of rubbing alcohol and dry ice, smash it into a paste consistency and apply it to the factory sound deadening material. It causes the factory material to crack and pop up losing it's bond to the floor panels. Saves a ton of work and headache when removing factory sound deadening.

before you laid down that heat or sound barrier stuff you should've primed the stuff which had surface rust. I know cali vehicles don't rust much, but it'll further increase the longevity of the truck.

I bought a '78 K5. It has a radio antenna located on the hood near the passenger door. No other Blazer I'm seeing on CZcams has an antenna. Why is that?
Since the Jimmy has a Chevy grille why not swap with the GMC one in the C10
