Installation and review of the FITCAMX integrated 4k dash cam in my Kia EV6. It's under $200 which is awesome and this 4k dash cam integrates with the cover around the rear view mirror and literally looks like it's an OEM part from the factory. I love the FITCAMX 4k dash cam and how clean and easy the installation is in my Kia EV6. They also make it for many other car models, including the EV6's cousin the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Let me know what you think of the FITCAMX 4k Dash Cam! Thanks for watching 😃

Gotta love this dash cam. The OEM look makes this a favorite. Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe for more videos! 😀
Hey Jeff, are you gonna pull the trigger on the addon lens filter too? I wanna see you review and compare the clarity of the shot with and without filter. Thanks!
@MrAntennaBall I hadn't seen the filter. Yeah I'll see about getting one and testing it. Thank you!
Thanks for the install steps. I just finished installing into my Ioniq5, and this was by far the easiest dash cam I’ve ever installed. The hardest part was getting blue film off the lens. I highly recommend people following along remove the blue film before installing.
Yeah it's definitely really easy to install. I'm very happy with it. What was the issue with the blue film?
@@TechnicallyJeff mine had a very small pull tab, that was difficult to get a hold of once it was mounted because of the windshield. Not really a problem, just order of operations to make it easier, in case you need to tweezers or something else to lift up the plastic to get a hold of it.
Ohhh gotcha yeah I can see that being difficult. Otherwise working well for you? FWIW it accepts a 256 gb micro sd card fine. On their site it says it supports up to 128 gb.
@@TechnicallyJeff just finished installing it about. 30 minutes ago. Other than setting up the app, haven’t had a chance too use it yet.
Although, what are your thoughts on the loop times? I left it at the default 3 minutes, but wonder if 1 or 5 is better.
Personally I'm a fan of longer times. It makes the files larger, but if I want to pull a video for whatever reason, it's nice to have less files to go through and more video length for sharing.
I have had it for over a year now, pretty happy with it so far.
awesome - me too!
Followed your instructions exactly including breaking the tab :)
That tab is awful lol. Hope my video was helpful and you're enjoying it! 😀
@@TechnicallyJeff Yes and bought the cam + tbox plus with your promo code, thanks :)
Nice hope you're enjoying it too!
Very nice review, Jeff, thanks. Just ordered the 4K model with rear camera using your discount code. I'll replace my rather grungy existing dash cam with this one. Hopefully the rear cam won't be a pain to wire. I've done a bit of front-to-rear wiring on my EV6 -- it's never easy.
Thanks! Hopefully it's not too bad. I haven't added a rear in this car but I can imagine it's a little involved.
Hey, I was thinking to buy one for my tiguan. If you don't mind can you share your 1 year experience of using this dash cam ?
Nice dash cam! Thanks for posting the review.
Yeah I'm a big fan. I'm glad to help!
Thanks for the great review and details! Is there any tutorial/guide available anywhere for using the fuse kit so that parking mode can be used?
Happy to help! I don't think so but I'm pretty sure it comes with instructions. You can also email their support for instructions.
Just ordered this front and rear. Thanks for the code
Happy to help!
It's awesome! I'm so tempted to get one of those!!! ❤
I'm very happy with it
These are great for the money. Had one on my 2022 Avalon XSE and just ordered one for my 2024 Crown Platinum.
Yeah they are great and I love the OEM look
Thanks for the video. Love the way it looks almost factory installed. Ordered one today to replace my current dashcam. Still don’t understand why Kia didn’t include a way to record with all the built in cameras.
Happy to help! Yeah I'm a big fan of the design. It would be nice if Kia let us record with the built-in cameras, but I'm guessing there's additional cost that they didn't want to add to the MSRP (USB port wiring and drive for storage, software development, etc).
@@TechnicallyJeff The Korean model has it. You can see the USB port housing in the glovebox in the US EV6s. MSRP is comparable between the regions so I don't think that's it. Definitely a misstep on their part given their biggest competitor (Tesla) had it years ago.
I thought it wasn't fully wired in US vehicles? I agree though, Tesla has had it for a while and it's a great feature@@catzblu999
Great review ns love the OEM fit. Just ordered one with the discount code. I’ll let you know how I like it.
Thanks yeah I'm a big fan of the design and fitment. Hope you enjoy it!
Hey, I was thinking to buy one for my tiguan. If you don't mind can you share your 1 year experience of using this dash cam ?
I fitted mine today, fairly easy but please line up the male/female power cable correctly (there's a faint embossed line to help) Make a solid connection, not like I did at first. After that, all good. Great video by the way, thanks!
Yeah you definitely need the power cables to line up. Glad you got it worked out!
At last what a fantastic dash cam. Normally I hate the bulky look and wires everywhere of dash cams. But this integrated almost OEM style is superb. Does it have crash detection? And do you think it would cause battery drain? One thing I have always wanted is what Tesla calls sentry mode. It would be great if this does something similar? Great vid Jeff and will be getting one of these. Hopefully they export to Europe? 👍👍
Yeah I love this style. I was never a fan of the wires and having to mount it on the windshield. It does have impact detection. To get a parking mode like sentry mode, you need a hardwire kit which they sell you just have to contact them. That would pull power from the 12v battery though, so it'd be up to you if you want to use that. Personally I'm okay with just having it working while driving using the mirror for power. It automatically starts when the car is on and turns off when you turn the car off. And yeah I'm sure they sell it in Europe.
Sounds great. Maybe if connecting to 12v battery for the sentry mode? that I connect to a high end lLi-ion version that I believe they now do? Bloody expensive but supposed to last 10 x as long? But great vid and great product. Keep up the good work. 🙌
Thanks! Yeah I have an Ohmmu 12v LiFePO4 battery that I recommend. They last a lot longer than normal batteries. Check out the videos I have one them for more info.
Thanks for this! I am on the fence about buying one primarily cuz I want a dash cam that can also monitor speed.
Ahh gotcha. I actually prefer it to not display speed personally... lol. I speed 10-20 over fairly often and don't need that captured.
Just installed mine today. Pretty easy install and setup...except I did some fumbling around getting the cover back on, but finally got it. Haven't tested on a drive yet, but stationary video samples look great. Thanks, Jeff, for your expertise!
Great I'm glad you got it on good. Happy to help 😀
how is ur experience after 4 months?
It's been solid. I check the files every now and then and it's recording fine. Everything still fits well. I'm very happy with it.
Edit: Just realized you probably were asking the other guy lol
The only issue I have ,since I have the front only camera, the power is cut off every time I turn the car off, which is as it should be, but the date and time stamp does not change unless I open the app and connect with the fitcam each time I start the car. Have searched but can't find any way around it. @@TechnicallyJeff
@michaeltaylor3332 hmm may need to reach out to them to see if there's a workaround
Jeff: Excellent video as expected. I have a couple of questions: 1-Does it have a Live View feature? It looked like you were showing recorded video. 2-Can it be integrated with Apple Car Play? If not, we would have to find a decent mount for our iPhones. 3-Is there a quick way to lock a recording as it happens...Like an accident? Thank you so much, PhilR
Jeff: I downloaded the Installation manual and it answered Q 1 & 2. What about integration with CarPlay? Also, they do not supply much info on the rear camera. i assume it's wired and will have to loop into the housing above the mirror. Do you know if it mounts inside the rear window or outside? Thx much, PhilR
Thanks! Great questions. Yes the live view works well. It can't be Integrated with Carplay. I don't really know of any that do work with it directly. For the rear, yes it ties into the front camera for power and mounts in the back on the inside of the rear window.
Great review. Considering getting this for my EV6 GT Line 2. How do you find it affects battery consumption/mileage. Im fairly new to the EV world and I'm still weary about how far I can travel on a single charge.
Thanks! Yeah I definitely recommend it. No, there wouldn't be an impact there. The amount of electricity if uses is very minimal.
Thanks for the review Jeff. Used the coupon and got one for my Lexus IS 350. Definitely looking forward to protect myself. =)
Glad to help! Enjoy it 😀
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks man keep them reviews coming!
Absolutely!
@AL_EVOz How are you liking it so far? I just ordered one for my 2021 Lexus IS350 as well
@jayduck75 it's awesome the camera works amazing. Especially in 4k. Helps alot from idiots on the roads haha
Thank you for FitCamx DashCam. Can it integrate with Tbox plus so that the DashCam video can show on the car infotainment screen ?
I think it should do that easily. I'll try it out and make a video of it.
Thanks for the excellent video.
Glad you liked it!
Hi Jeff, I've installed the same dashcam and have also the cpc200 tbox. Did you manage to install and use the FITCAMX app on it? installation works and viewing as well but I can't manage to copy recordings to the SDcard for instance. The back button in the app doesn't work (either back on the dot). Thanks and great info you share with this community!
Oh nice! I do have it but rarely use it. I have found that running the app in split screen on a 30% or 40% ratio side helps the rendering and functionality. How are you viewing it?
Nice video and I am thinking about getting this Dash Cam. I noticed the street signs and gas station during the video and live in the same county. Just got my EV6 Wind RWD around a month ago.
Oh yeah? That's pretty cool. You should message me on my Facebook page
@@TechnicallyJeff Jeff, Sent an old fashion email.
👍👍
Hahaha just posted about this earlier today on your other video. Perfect! Awesome video. Let us know which dashcam you end up using ultimately
Haha yeah I'm loving this one. I'm planning on keeping this one in my EV6 and probably will use the BlackVue in my wife's van. I'll probably give the Thinkware away.
I was going to get a few new dashcams but am looking at this possibly for how nice it would look. I just wish it was a 24/7 setup for parking monitoring.
Yeah I'm a big fan of the look of this one. The integrated design is great. You can get a hardwiring cable from them for parking mode.
They just need to add Starvis2 or equivalent cameras which have excellent detection of plates in day and night compared to regular dash cam. Viofo 139 Pro in this form factor with rear camera for the win
Yeah it would be cool if they offered that as an upgrade. I'd pay an extra $100 for that.
Do you know if there is an option or upgraded version with an in-cab and rear camera, a 3 channel model?
No, not with the in-cab camera. Just the singe front or dual front and back.
When installed on a 2019 Camry, can footages be viewed on the radio screen or just phone ?? Thanks
If you get something like a Tbox Plus (I reviewed it and have a promo code in that video) you should be able to, especially if you do split screen so it's a skinnier width.
How is the camera holding up for you? And I think I saw that you mentioned that this camera can hold a 256gb sd card? Should I get one of those or just get a 128gb?
It's been working great. I personally would get a 128 GB card. 256 can have some issues if it's too big. 128 is enough for a dash cam to record incidents.
Hi Jeff, Can you use your phone to watch or download the video of dash cam remotely? For example: You are at the office, and you watch or download the video that recorded while your car on the parking lot. Can this dash cam do it?
Hey you have to connect to the dash cam directly using your phone. It doesn't have a cloud based monitoring feature like Teslas have built in.
Thanks for this video! Looking at this brand for my car as I can’t stand trailing wires and external additional devices in my car. Things like dash cams should really be an aftermarket perk from the manufacturers imo.
Wanted to ask to anyone who also has one of these… does it start recording when the engine starts up? Or do you have to manually go into the app and press record?
I just want as much a seamless experience with whatever I choose to go with that doesn’t allow for user error.
I'm glad to help! It automatically starts recording as soon as the vehicle is started.
Fantastic. Appreciate the reply!
Am I right in understanding that it continually records when in operation but in either 1,2, and 5 minute timeframes? When that timeframe is up it stops the video and starts recording a new one? Or overwrites the oldest one if the card is full?
Yep exactly, though I think it's 1, 3, and 5 minute intervals, not 2.
This looks very nice! Somehow I missed this when you uploaded it. Does this dashcam still work as expected?
Yeah it's been working great. And I love the look and fitment. I highly recommend it.
@@TechnicallyJeff I've never really used a dash cam before. Maybe you could answer some questions. How quick does that SD card fill up and how easy is it to get footage off? I'm going to do my first road trip in my EV6 in a few weeks and might want the footage for a video compilation. Thanks.
It depends on the size of the SD card and your settings. I put a 256gb micro sd card in mine and it holds a lot of 5 min videos on the highest quality setting. 5 min videos are still under 1 gb, so with that size card you can have over 250 5 min videos, which is over 20 hrs of recording at 4k. They are really easy to get off too. You can take the micro sd card out and put it onto a computer directly or you can download to your phone in the app. It takes maybe 1-2 min to download the full 5 min video to your phone.
Thank you so much, Jeff. Can you set it up so when you start your car and go, the camera will automatically start recording video in an endless loop? i.e. without having to launch the app every time?
Yep that's how it works. You don't need to access the app each time.
@@TechnicallyJeff Perfect, thank you! Ordering one right now!

Jeff - I thought I saw a wireless CarPlay adapter in your EV6 during one of your videos. Are you having any issues with FitcamX not recording when you’re using wireless CarPlay? The camera seems to be working fine when I’m connected to the camera via the phone app, but it’s not recording when I’m using wireless CarPlay. Thanks for doing your videos. After watching this video, I was more confident I could do the installation. Thanks!
Hey using wireless Carplay shouldn't impact the recording, but you won't be able to view it in the app while running wireless Carplay because both use wifi direct.
damn i was hoping you got the kit that came with the rear cam too so i could get an idea of how thats installed. i dont have an IONIQ 5 but an IONIQ 6 and thinking of getting this dashcam
Ahh yeah I didn't really feel like I had the need for the rear. You should be able to run it along the headliner all the way back though.
Thanks for sharing. Recently I found that's difficult for installing a regular dash cam for my CR-V 2024, since there are already built-in sensor cam like yours. I am wondering if such cam matches my CR-V 2024
Nice - yes they have one for your vehicle. Don't forget promo code TECHJEFF saves you 10% fitcamx.com/collections/honda-civic/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-honda-cr-v-2023-6th-gen?sca_ref=3388677.AUir7yalAr
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. But as I was listening to it the background music/rhythm was very annoying. As I was trying to watch the video and and get the niddly wires in place I found it increased the frustration level. Other than that 10/10.
Sorry about that! I know the background music isn't for everyone. I just don't want silence so I have that quietly play in the background of most videos
I just got the 4k one for my crv, I looked at some footage while driving and traffic lights where so bright to the point you could even see the street signs beside it. Any way to reduce the light? because getting footage at night seems like it might be a problem for mine.
I don't have the app up right now but you can adjust the exposure I think
Can you share some data like how many clips it can store or it will store on your phone? Do you have to connect your phone and the cam all the time to get the video? Will he cam in parking mode? Thanks
It can store as many as your memory card allows. It's highly dependent on the size of your memory card. I think from what I remember each 5 min file was about 800-900 mb. To get the video you connect your phone or take out the memory card. Parking mode can be enabled with their hardwiring kit. Least I checked you have to reach out to them for that.
Thank you for the review Jeff. I actually purchased this exact unit with your code. After installation I felt around the micro SD card slot and it appears to be quite warm. Is yours also producing a similar response?
Hey yes I just touched it and the micro SD card is pretty hot. It's being constantly written and rewritten though. They are designed to work even at high temps.
@@TechnicallyJeff thank you for the reply. I was just ensuring there wasn’t a short present. I figured operating temperatures meant the outside temperature and not internal. Hopefully it continues to function well for the both of us. Looking forward to your future content and thanks again.
Yep no problem! If I have any issues I'll let you know. It should be fine though. Stay tuned for a lot more content coming 😀
Hmmm now I get a bit scetchy. Is the warranty of the OEM stuff like the Highway Assist Camera affected by the Dash Cam? I mean if the Dash Cam gets so hot? It is quite crowded in the small mirror housing
It would only be impacted if it damaged the oem components. I wouldn't think it could though. The memory card gets hot but the other components don't get that hot.
Any chance to see what it takes to get the rear dash cam installed as well? Looks like it only supports models that have auto dimming feature on the rear view mirror! I have a Kia EV6 Air in New Zealand and it says it has - Electrochromic Rear View Mirror (ECM) - is it the same thing?
I didn't get the rear personally, but from the site it appears the front cam comes with an additional wire that then connects to the wire that runs to the back for the rear camera. You would just tuck it in the headliner and side moulding and then mount the rear camera on the rear window.
@@TechnicallyJeff Hi Jeff, just another quick question.. does it matter if the car is left hand drive or right hand drive? I remember reading somewhere (that I can't find anymore) that this does not fit a right hand drive.. and I own one.. Logically, it doesn't make any sense.. but had to check.
yeah only left hand drive right now. they are supposed to be coming out with a right hand drive version in the future though.
Great review, thanks ! Any idea how this device records the rear view image?
My current camera blends it in into the front view, taking up about 1/4 of the picture of the front cam :-(
I wonder if this cam has a better way of recording the rear view.
Hmm honestly good question. I'm not sure. I'd reach out to them and ask. It might be a separate recording.
@@TechnicallyJeff I'm also interested in this response. I heard about Fitcamx a few days ago and today decided to look for a review video and found yours. Never have had a dashcam. I hope the rear video is separate.
Well I'm glad you're here! I'll let you know what they say.
@@subwarpspeed Did you get an answer?
On the Kia EV Forums I asked a guy that just recently installed the front/rear and he advised it's a separate file for the front and the rear 😃
Hi, does it record the whole time or do you press a button to record a specific event?
It records the entire time when the car is on.
I love my FitcamX but can’t figure out how to “mark” or time stamp a specific incident on the video then find it in the many short videos it has taken. Can it be done ?
I think you can lock videos in the app. I'm not at my car right now to check but I think you can mark them so they are locked.
Does this work with wireless apple CarPlay/android auto? I know when multiple devices require a wireless connection, it can interfere with operation
It records no matter what, but you can't connect to it directly if you're also connected to wireless Android Auto or Carplay. Phones only allow one wifi connection and if it's being used by Android Auto or Carplay, it can't do this too. It is easy to switch back and forth though.
Hi there! i purchased a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross and am looking for a dashcam with an easy plug and play function.
Is the fitcamx a good and safe choice? Does it need some coding from the Toyota dealer or does it work perfectly after installing ? I live in the Netherlands. Which type should I choose?
Thanks for your reaction!
Kind regards
Klaas
Hey yes it should work well with no need for the dealership to do anything. Here's a link - fitcamx.com/collections/toyota/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-corolla-cross-2023?sca_ref=3388677.AUir7yalAr - you just want to make sure you select the right one based on your mirror design. Hi Jeff. I can’t remember if I’ve already asked, but will this fit with my Kia EV-6 GT line?
Yes it will!
Do you know how you’re supposed to get it off once you put it on?? The clips look like they only come off from the inside. Or can you just pull it off without it breaking?
To be honest I'm not sure. I would think it would be similar to the factory one where you're supposed to be able to slide it slightly and have it come off. But I don't know for sure.
Thanks for sharing your review. Just used your discount code. Saved £20.GBP
Sweet! Enjoy it!
I bought one and installed it a couple days ago. Unfortunately, my install didn't go as smoothly. As I was taking the old casing off the windshield, one of the mounting brackets that was glued to the windshield came off. I reattached it with new adhesive and waited for an hour to ensure it was set. Then, as I was installing the FITCAMX, another mounting bracket came loose. Grrrr!!!!! More adhesive and waiting another hour. My kit also did not come with any instructions, and the User Manual contained the wrong QR code for downloading the app. Very frustrating! However, once everything was corrected, things seem to be working very well.
Oh man that's frustrating. I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad it finally worked out!

Just got a 24 EV6 Wind AWD with technology package and it does not have auto dimming rearview which is a must for this camera. Just my luck... Would have been perfect...
Where are you located? The wind awd in the USA has an autodimming mirror standard (all EV6s in the USA do)
@@TechnicallyJeff USA... I didn't realize standard equipment. :) Thought it was part of the homelink option I dont have. Thank you! Amazon has a used one direct from fitcamx for 129.00. I'll give it a shot! Thanks again!
Oh nice! Hope it works well!
Hi Jeff, loved your video and honest review on the dashcam. I would love to purchase this product. Is it available for a 2018 mustang gt R/H DRIVE here in Australia? If so, could you please send me the model No that is compatible. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. Vic. 👍
I'm glad you liked the review! Looking at their website, it doesn't look like they have it for the 2018 Mustang. You could reach out to them though and ask if they have one or if they're working on making one available.
Is there a button to press when you want to save a clip? how does that work?
Remember, it's always saving the clips, overwriting the oldest as the memory card gets full. For locking, from what I remember, if you press the camera button on the device it locks that clip it's recording. It also automatically locks it based on an impact using the G-sensor. You can also access it using the app and lock recordings that way too.
Hello! Thank you for the amazing review. I want to know if this dashcam uses a lithium-ion battery or a super capacitor? I am from India and here everyone prefers the latter one because of the overwhelming heat.
Hey! It actually doesn't use either. It gets power from the mirror wiring.
@@TechnicallyJeff Thank you for your quick response. I do feel dumb asking that question now haha. Okay sweet. So I assume the camera won't overheat or it just may, but it won't be a technical issue.
Haha no problem. I've had no issues with overheating personally. It is good to not have to worry about a battery or supercapacitor overheating.
It was not easy to install in my ID.4. I eventually had to get a professional installer to do it because I could not pull out the rain sensor plug into which the camera would be piggy backed. However, now it is in, it looks OEM and because of this it is very hard to see from the outside of the car. The video quality is great.
Oh interesting. I'm glad you eventually got it to work. It is a great unit!
How much did they charge you to install it?
I wouldn't pay more than $50 to a shop personally. It's a very easy install.
@@TechnicallyJeff thanks. I’m gonna try myself first. I’m just worried about running the wire for the back camera
Ahh gotcha. For the back cam that is more in depth. I will say, the trim pieces are fairly easy to pop off to get the wires behind.
Dumb question, can this camera be set to simply “always record while driving”? for example, what if everything is set up perfectly but I decide to not connect to the camera through the app on a given trip?
Yep that's how it works. It records to the memory card whether you connect to it through the app or not.
Can you upload some of the native 4K video from the cam? Seems like this video is 1080p max on CZcams, so its essentially impossible to judge video quality.
Yep I'll grab some footage.
Just uploaded a 5 min raw 4k video!
Is there any way to view the footage remotely? Can we get it to upload to the cloud automatically without having to connect to the camera from the phone?
No, this camera doesn't have cloud functionality. It can only be viewed/saved using the app or taking out the memory card.
hi. does it make a start up/shut down noise or chime? if so, can the sound be shut off?
Good question - it does not make a sound when it starts up or shuts down.
@@TechnicallyJeff thanks. 🙂
No problem! 😀
Any chance that you can do a video on the rear camera? I'd like a rear camera for cabin/rear coverage for parking mode, but that feels like it would defeat the whole point of the OEM look.
Yeah if you do the hardwiring for parking mode you still keep the wires hidden, just not in the rear at the camera. Honestly though I'm not doing the rear camera at this time though. There are photos here where someone did. Hope it helps - www.kiaevforums.com/threads/fitcamx-dash-cam-and-rear-cam-installed.7684/#post-100035
Would it be better than the original front camera from Kia Sorento that has the record option?
Where are you located that the Sorento has that?
I tried loading app into my iPhone SE
but having difficulty. Does the FITCAMX require android?
Hmm no it works with both. What issue are you having?
Were you able to see the license plate with the rearview camera at night and day?
With the dash cam? Night is harder. Day definitely
Is there a way to have it record non-stop on a trip instead of several files?
No you can only do loops, but you can edit them and combine them all one after the other
What company makes the camera lens? Wish I could find an install video for my 2023 Accord Touring. Nice camera.
Novatek I believe. I do like it. Install should be similar for the Accord. And my promo code should work for 10% off too.
Great video! Any idea of why the little thing broke when you took off the original casing?
Honestly I'm not sure... lol. It was one of the little tabs holding it in. I think I was pushing to hard just trying to get it off.
does work in parking 24/hrs all time? If you are plug it where rain sensor only work in when the car is on, does not help the hit and run in parking!!!!
For parking mode you can get a hardwiring kit from them
What image Sensor does it use..
Is it True 4k
Just looked it up. It's a GC4653 which apparently has a native resolution of 1440p, so the video is being upscaled to 4k. While this isn't ideal, quality is sufficient in my opinion, especially at this price point and with the integrated packaging.
Does this disable the auto dimming mirror feature?
No it still works fine
Is it capable of recording with the car off? If it does, how much time? Tks
Yes it is if you get the optional hardwire kit. They have a note on their site to contact them to order that. I haven't tested it to know how long though.
Thanks for the excellent, detailed instructions Jeff! 👏Got it installed in about 20 minutes. It's winter time, so I pre-heated the interior of our EV6 to 80 degrees so all of the plastic was nice and pliable. I still have to install the rearview cam (sorting out the logistics of running the cable through the headliner), but the forward camera has a great image and it looks OEM! For anyone that follows, after removing the small cover next to the mirror, popping the front (hood-side) of the larger cover down first, then sliding it forward will release the back hooks to allow it to easily come off (reverse for install). Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Awesome I'm glad it's working well for you! And thanks for the tip about removing the cover!
Glad you didn't have an accident when you rolled the stop sign at 11:58 or when you rolled the right-on-red at 13:36. That dash cam footage would not have been to your advantage.
Yeah not ideal. Tbh though I don't know a single person that fully stops at every stop sign or right on red if no one is coming.
@@TechnicallyJeff My very first traffic violation was rolling through a stop sign a zillion years ago. Didn't get a warning but a nice fat ticket. My wheels come to a complete stop at anything red now. Only took one lesson.
I hate the feeling of coming to a complete stop at a stop sign when no one is around haha
I love Mangoal Tech Dash Cams
Oh yeah?
Yes You can Also Try This@@TechnicallyJeff
👍👍
has anyone connected the fuse box harness they offer such that parking motion is iniitiated if someone hits your car when off? Just checking on difficulty as purchasing for my BMW G30 540 xdrive.
I know some have. It seems to just tap in. Pretty easy. You just route the wires around the headliner and down the a pillar.
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks - ordered front camera and the fuse box connection as I do want to have the parking motion option to record if something happens to car while parked.
Yeah I definitely get that. Hope it works well for you!
Does the app have to stay open for the camera to film?
No it records to the micro SD card automatically every time the vehicle is turned on
From Amz page:
Q2: Can I view the video after off the car?
A: Please download the video to your phone in advance before the engine is off, or no. The built-in WiFi is connected for limited distance.
What's the use of this camera if all footage is gone once you shut down the engine?
It's not gone, it's saved too the memory card. It just powers down when you turn the car off so you can't connect to it with your phone.
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks, that makes sense.
No problem!
Why is the night driving so dark. It looks like you only have DLR’s on. Maybe exposure can be adjusted?
Exposure can be increased if you want it brighter. I did have an judge with my headlights too. Actually just had one replaced.
@@TechnicallyJeff what issue did you have with your headlights?
I adjusted the drivers side up and out wouldn't go back down so they replaced it.
My fitcamx on my Volvo is now recording upside but only the rear camera. Any suggestions?
Was it recording both before? Maybe the front signal wire came loose?
@@TechnicallyJeff yes. It was working perfectly before.
Hmm yeah I would think something with the wires came loose. I'd take off the shroud and see what you can see.
Does the FITCAMX app on your phone need to be open for the dash cam to record? I can’t figure out how to record without having the app on
No you don't need the app open. It automatically records to the micro SD card. You only need to open the app to view/download the recordings or adjust settings.
@@TechnicallyJeffreally appreciate the response. Then do you know why my SD card doesn’t record anything when the app is not connected? Trying to troubleshoot this.
I do not... Your sure it's not showing anything in the recordings? You may want to reach out to fitcamx directly
I swapped the SD card and now it’s working. Something must’ve been wrong with the SD card they provided.
Oh weird. Well I'm glad it's working now for you!
The plug that's originally plugged in. What exactly does that go to?
That powers the autodimming mirror
@@TechnicallyJeff it looks like the plug on the passenger side and the driver side power the auto dimming mirror. It looks like the Fitcamx plugs in series into a "box" under the canopy directly in front of the rearview mirror.
There is a cable shown that went to my Blackvue dash cam that I hadn't removed yet. There are also plugs for sensors there as well. But it's my understanding it's getting it's power from the mirror. If you don't have an autodimming mirror, it doesn't work. And it shuts off with the car with the autodimming mirror.
I ordered one and there asking if I have an auto dimming mirror, but my car is in the shop do all of them have auto.dimming I have a 22 wind awd with tech package
Yes yours is auto dimming
Do you think this will work for an Ioniq 6?
Hmm that's a good question. They have one for the Ioniq 5. If the Ioniq 6 shroud is the same as the Ioniq 5, that one should work since I'm sure the connector would be the same. But I'm not sure if the mirror shroud is the same.
Does everyone that has installed this have the auto-dimming mirror? I ordered from Amazon but they say the model on there is for EV6 with Auto-Dimming mirrors only. But I do not have that but there is the black connector under that small cover.
It gets power from the mirror connector. The connector may be there on all EV6s but only used on the ones with the auto-dimming mirror. I'm not sure though.
@@TechnicallyJeff I'm assuming you have auto-dimming mirrors?
Yeah I honestly thought all EV6s did. I guess you have a Light trim?
@@TechnicallyJeff No, I have the Wind. We'll see what they say. I'll probably install it and try powering it on before trying to send it back. Thanks for all your videos on the EV6. Very informative!
If you have the Wind in the USA you have an autodimming mirror. It's standard. And I'm glad they're helpful!
I don’t think there is any power for my rear view mirror, I have a wind with tech package. Will this work for me?
You should still have power. That's what I have 😊 The EV6 has an autodimming mirror, even without homelink.
Oh, ok … really love that dash cam.
Yeah I'm a really big fan of it
Just purchased for my Mercedes. My front windshield is at 50% tinted but I don't think that should make much difference??..
Your thoughts???
Thanks Jeff
I think it will be fine. If anything it might reduce glare. But the camera should automatically adjust.
@@TechnicallyJeff , thank you Jeff, sounds good to go!!.. I appreciate you replying 🙏
Of course! Enjoy it!
@@TechnicallyJeff , yes, thank you
Happy to help!
When you started this video by saying this camera does have all of the features we expect from an 4K dashcam, I got very excited.
But, when I have seen the entire video, my expectations drop drastically.
Me and many others expect that moust dachcams have parking mode recording and GPS.
Since your video also did not cover any rear view cam, I also become even more sad about this cam.
Luckily I found in the add for the cam, it can be ordered with a rear view cam as well.
But for me, and I'm sure...for many others it is more important that the camera also have a parking mode recording.
Then this camera fall out of my wish list.
I also did miss that you show how the shroud holding tabs looks like close up, for us to understand how the shroud actually was fastened, and maybe be able to remove it correctly without braking any tabs.
It does have parking mode if you buy the separate parking mode module from them. And yes there is a rear camera available, as I mentioned in the video. GPS is the only thing missing, and many like me prefer that. Location data can be gathered from cell phone and vehicle GPS data. It's not necessary on a dash cam like it was 10-20 years ago. I prefer not to have my speed broadcasted in case there is an incident. I don't want an insurance company saying I was going 5 mph over so an accident is my fault.
do you have one that shows rear camera instalation too?
No sorry I only have the front camera. I've seen the rear installed though. Did you have some questions?
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks for response. Yes - do you think rear camera is worth it and easy enough to install DIY? Also, would you suggest a factory installed camera or this one for a toyota? Toyota factory installed camera is 1080p and $375
@mcmickey3344 this is better quality and less expensive so I feel like it's better option. For the rear the install isn't bad but it takes some time to route the cables around the doors and everything. I do think the rear is good to have though.
Installed FitcamX in my EV6 and it works, but every time i turn the car off and back on it says add camera and i have to reconnect it to Wifi. Also, there is no guidance on using thumbdrive. Just plug it into the car? How does it connect to the camera?
You have to connect to the cameras wifi to access it or take out the micro SD card.
@@TechnicallyJeff I guess I'm just not grasping how to actually use this thing. There are no operational instructions, like, I'm driving along and see an event in front of me, do I have to stop and pull over and download the clip, or have a passenger do it? There's no details on how much time the microSD card can hold. No explanation of the point of the included thumbdrive.
Have you pulled up the app? It should have the clips in it there and you can lock the clips. And it shows the capacity in it.
@@TechnicallyJeff Yes i have. I guess it’s the age old disappointment after very high hopes….
Yeah just different funcationaltiy.
I have some questions: is there a parking mode? Does camera work when engine is off? Won't it drain the battery? If someone hits me on parking will it save the video or rewrite it?
For that you'd need to get their hardwiring kit (I don't have that). That does drain the 12v battery some, but usually there is protection in place. But yes it would save it.
I read someone's review saying that this dash cam drained his car battery completely because he hadn't used his car for a period of time. This means this dash cam does not have the feature of battery protection. Can you please confirm if it is true?
This dash cam gets power from the rear view mirror. It automatically powers down when the car is turned off.
So no parking mode?
Oh sorry it didn't show what comment it replied to. There is the hardwiring kit for parking mode. I haven't tested it though to see if there is 12v protection. You'd want to reach out to them.
Does anyone know if installing this voids any of the Hyundai warranties?
For something to void a warranty (in the USA) it has to be proven that a modification caused a part to fail. Considering this just gets it's minimal power from the mirror, I don't see how it could possibly cause any issues.
This company just asked me to review a dashcam but wanted a “preview” link for approval first. I told them to shove it and I’ll be sending it back
Tbh with a lot of the things I review, companies ask for a link to preview it ahead of time. I just make it clear it will be an honest review and I won't change anything unless I have incorrect info or drastically misunderstood something as I was testing it.
How do you record longer video ?
5 minutes is the longest it goes, which is actually longer than many others. A lot of dash cams max out at 3 minutes. When it hits 5 minutes, it just creates a new file. So you could have 10 x 5 minute videos making it basically a 50 minute video. Hope that helps!
Ok I installed today one on my 2018 Mazda 6, and it was pretty easy. Also got 10 percent of using your code. Thank you!
Nice - glad to help!
Hello , I bought a fitcam to my corolla , there are 64 memories inside. I want to raise more , How much i can raise 512 or more ? Thank you
I think 128gb is the largest
How do you get it to work with android auto? I have to turn of my bluetooth to get it to work. Thanks
You can't access it in the app while connected to android auto wireless unfortunately because both use a wifi connection to connect.
@@TechnicallyJeff And so the camera is useless unless you disconnect android auto? I thought AA was bluetooth?
It's not useless. It still records. You just can't access it with the app at the same time. No wireless Android Auto uses wifi direct. Bluetooth doesn't have enough bandwidth.
@@TechnicallyJeff so to review any footage I need to stay in the car and switch wifi from AA to Fitcam?
Yep if you're using the app. You can also just pop the memory card out easily.
Looks like this camera has no GPS module and no option to add it, correct?
Correct. That said, I don't find it to be an issue. Phones have GPS and many cars do as well. I personally don't need my speed displayed and insurance trying to deny a claim because I was going 5mph over lol
I just got this but I have some concerns.
1) where is this data being stored China I just want to be careful
2) I’ve seen a bunch of reviews saying these cameras stop working after a couple of months. I’ve also seen people saying it randomly stops recording.
3) everyone is also saying it gets extremely hot.
Any update on this? I purchased mine for a Mercedes.
Data is stored on the memory card. It doesn't upload videos to the cloud. I haven't had any issues with mine stopping working. The memory cards do get hot, but it's normal for micro SD cards to get hot since it's going nonstop. They are rated for over 150 degrees though. I personally use this Samsung endurance pro card. They are designed for dash cams - amzn.to/3SlR21T
@@TechnicallyJeff thank you so much for the help!
I'm glad to help!
I used your referral link and appreciate the video. You said it's a "very simple installation" but you broke the tab on the original shroud and had to spend several minutes fiddling with the wiring. So maybe it's a "straightforward" installation? Also, the background drum beat is super annoying to me.
I broke it because I didn't realize exactly how I needed to remove it lol. I'd still say simple. Take off the old mirror shroud, connect wire, install new shroud. Regarding the drum beat, I appreciate the feedback. I rarely use it now in entire videos.
it doesn't look 4k to me... i mean I like the concept but the video quality isn't looking good, you should be able to clearly read license plates at "4K"
Yeah some of that will depend. I was watching a video comparison the other day and they were getting similar results with various 4k cameras - easy to read plates in front and, if not moving too fast, on the sides. But if you add in a lot of speed, motion blur becomes an issue. Fwiw it definitely does better than the 1080p Thinkware I tested recently. And for your reference, this video is exported in 1080p due to length and the size it would be on my phone in 4k.
My 4k on my old dashcam was the same number plates were hard to read
Yeah it's typical 4k
You're not watching a TV, all a dashcam is for is determining fault. Too many people think they need crystal clear veiwing capabilities when in reality it's a simple tool that tells who was in the wrong.
@donniev8181 yep I agree
Would it be different for a right hand drive car? Subscribed _ Thanks :-)
Yes, the RHD car has a different mirror shroud unfortunately. They are working on a RHD option though.
@@TechnicallyJeff RHD version of the EV6 is now available. Mine arrived today in the UK and installing tonight!
@barrysrobbins yep I shared that a few days ago. Let me know how the install goes!
can you use your own samsung sd card?
Yeah you can use whatever micro SD card you want. I have a Samsung in mine.
