  • Robert A. “Bob” Hoover is considered by many to be our greatest living aviator and has influenced generations of pilots with his precision flying and gentlemanly demeanor. Nicknamed “the Pilot’s Pilot” by his peers, Bob is largely unknown outside aviation circles despite his staggering array of accomplishments.
The film, "Flying the Feathered Edge" captures every nuance of Bob’s amazing life story by skillfully interweaving vintage still images, rare historic footage, and exclusive testimonials from other flight legends past and present-bringing this legend’s incredible life and story into the limelight.
Selections from "Flying the Feathered Edge" are presented in this lecture by Kimberly Furst, who directed, produced, and wrote the screenplay. She is joined by Sean Tucker, National Aviation Hall of Fame aerobatic pilot, and Museum curator Dorothy Cochrane.

A lot of stupid people out there. I saw Bob Hoover perform in South Africa in 1977 and what a pilot and a gentleman. I attended two of his lectures about general flying and aerobatics

Indeed it was an honour to have been able see him fly and attend his briefings on all matters of aviation and the correct way to do aerobatics with our stressing the aircraft. .He is probably the only pilot to have successfully do a roll in a 747. !!

I might add that had it not been for him " throwing " the Shrike Commander around the sky, I probably would never have got to learn how to fly them. Now I own my own Shrike with the latest state of the art instruments ,weather radar and Garmin GPS and navigation aids. Seating has been configured in club style and a toilet and fridge installed.

Saw him perform in Tasmania after the U.S. cancelled his licence, could not believe how skilled he was. Had the crowd of thousands stunned. Also a true gentleman. Will never forget the performances he did that day in the T-28 and of course in the Shrike. Brilliant.

I had the pleasure to fly with Bob once in 1988.
I was managing the FBO in IPT and he was performing at the air show.
So he kept the Shrike & P-51 at our FBO.
I loaned him my custom van and he gifted me with a ride in the Shrike..
After a fantastic airline career of 45 years and over 29,000 hours, flying with Hoover will always be a cherished memory..
It should have been Hoover and not Yeager in the Bell X-1…

Bob suffered from airsickness at first but with persistent training was able to overcome this and became a top notch flyer. A feel for the air was in his blood. Knowing what his craft could do and not do instinctively.

I got to see Bob Hoover fly his Aero at a Fun and Sun down in Florida a couple decades ago. Not What you would call a stunt plain at all, but the things he did with NO Engine Power was Amazing. He used to fly with Chuck Yeager.

I have been lucky enough to see a handful of Bob Hoover demonstrations with his shrike and p-51. I wish I could have seen his F-86 demo and others.
The FAA was way out of line taking Hoover's medical. Administrators with too much power.
