Dude you are a life saver! I have just over 600 miles on my 2021 ford ranger xlt and it was driving me crazy! I thought about just dealing with pushing the button everytime but I always seem to forget and then bam it shuts off, pretty annoying. Thank you 100x!
Agreed, annoying! Thanks for watching!
Thx for the info, will look at my Maverick.
Mark.
Same experience, my only other complaint is the low gear jumpy engine especially with the a/c on. Other than that I love the truck.
The night light trick is a much better idea. Disconnecting the connector this video recommends actually disables your entire battery monitoring system (BMS). 😮😮😮This can result in getting stranded without warning! BMS is super important in newer vehicles with so many different loads on the battery.
What is the "night light" trick?
Exaclty. Like what if you have something plugged in and actually want the systems to shut down to make sure you can start…
Yep came here to say this. That cable is for the BMS and serves several functions. Just spend 100 bucks for an auto start stop eliminator.
I have had my 2020 Ranger since Sept. and that "feature" was the most annoying thing I have experienced! It was a pain in the ass to remember to hit the off button every time I started it up! A big THANK YOU! Cheers!
You ARE WELCOME! Trying to get the SECRET OUT, and thanks for watching my videos!
That has been bugging me for the last 14 months, Ill disconnect ASAP! You’re a life saver!! Thank you..
Thank you! Only 1500 miles on my Ranger and I was so annoyed about this start stop thing !
Just did this to a brand new 2021 ranger. Works perfect. No light even came on. Thank you very much
You are welcome, thanks for watching HowToHeaven!
Thanks for the info, best thing I could have found on you tube today. Works perfect on my 2020 Ford Ranger
I was hoping that you would say the best thing you could have found on CZcams today was my channel, but I will accept your thanks!
Thanks for saving me the pain of trying to remember to push the disable button every time I start my Ranger, your the Ranger King.
Thanks.... Love my 2020 Ranger even more now!!
You just made my driving world a better and more comfortable place😁 thank you👌
Thanks for watching, happy to help, I know it drove me crazy (pun intended)!
Does not work for my 2022 Ford Maverick. I mean it probably functions right but the problem is this:
Big Red "Charging System (new line) Service Soon" message appears repeatedly and never goes away. There might be a Forscan method of hiding that error report but the fact is, it seems Ford caught onto this method and decided to annoy the driver/owner.
I have an "eco mode" I'd also like to set as default but can't do that either without some janky solution. I don't know how expensive the "bus insertion" method is (I guess I will look) but that would appear to be the only way.
What is "bus insertion"? That's what that not-free device is. It interfaces with the engine/car communications network bus. The OBD2 talks on that bus as does everything else. This "thing in the middle" device just adds a pass-thru in-line device that sends the signal that is the same as the start/stop signal from the button for auto-start-stop.
I did get the "ASS disabled" (Auto-Start-Stop) symbol though... just the big red warning as well. Not clean... I would expect if you updated your system control firmware, you might get this message as well.
Thank you!!! Auto start/stop is the most annoying feature about my ranger. Not anymore. Thank you again.
You are welcome, glad I could help! Thanks for watching HowToHeaven
I just bought a new 2022 Ford Ranger Lariat, I hate the stop start shit, your description on how to stop that feature was fantastic !! I just want to thank you Jim Sanders
Thank you Jim! I think it is a great work around for always having to press that one time Ford auto start/stop cancel switch! Remember, if you tow, hook the plug back up as it may affect the tow function...per some of my viewers, then simply unplug it again, once you are done towing!
This is next level information. Get this man a metal! Thank you!
I'm about to try it as well. Thanks You, bro
TY ! TY! TY! I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW EASEY THIS WAS FOR SUCH AN ANNOYING THING. I'VE HAD MY 2019 RANGER SINCE 9/2019 AND JUST FOUND THIS OUT.
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching HowToHeaven.

Oh my goodness. I just bought a 202 Explorer and this stop/start was driving me crazy. I feel so blessed to find this CZcams site and disable the goofy device on the Neg terminal. It is a little ore difficult on the Explorer, but it is doable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God Bless you
Hi! What year is your explorer? I'm trying to disable the Start/Stop feature in my wife's 2020 explorer
You are welcome, God Bless you too!
Did it to my ford explorer it worked thank you for the video
You are welcome, thanks for watching!
geezus, fast forward to 6 minutes to get to the point. A 15 second video is all you need
Please excuse the number of hours researching this prior to making the discovery for myself. You offer a very self centered perspective. Happy motoring!
He needs to hit a certain amount of time in order to monetize the video, there’s like three ads. Just skip to the end.
@@captainbongwater7790 Thank you for your support.
Hey man it is free! What else do you want besides him going to your house and doing it for you?
I try and make my videos complete, so that every one can understand what I am doing. You obviously are well versed, and I would recommend that you fast forward to YOUR comfort/understanding level. Thank you for watching HowToHeaven.
I was just looking at the Ford Ranger. You sir, deserve a Nobel Peace Prize! I had a rental Ford car that had this feature and hated it. ugh.
Thank you, I will accept the nomination!
Side Note, It works on my 2020 F150 XLT. 👍
Hey I appreciate your video I also have a 2020 ford ranger always wondered how to get a bypass from the auto stop and start but now I know thank you very much
Works! Just did my 2019 Ranger.
I appreciate this so much I was literally about to buy one of those auto start/stop devices that you connect to the obd port for 100ish bucks but now I don’t have to!
You're welcome, so since you saved the $ how about subscribing to my channel as a token? Thanks for watching!
I now fell back in love with my 2019 Ford Ranger xlt again as The stupid start stop feature was not mentioned to me when I bought the vehicle. Every time I get back in to my truck and I no longer worry about my starter about my motor destroying itself as whenever it shut off the oil pressure also drops while there may be residual oil on the internal workings of my motor, I no longer have that problem it took me a whopping point five seconds to disconnect and neatly tuck it away where I don’t even have to look at the connector again. Thank you my friend you’ve got a loyal friend for life and subscriber. God bless you my friend, and I wish you all the success in the world in your Futureendeavors
Just bought my XLT sport yesterday, bout to go back to the dealership but I saw your video. Thank you.
You're welcome. Please note that commenters have added valuable info to this easily reversible mod! Thanks for watching.

Dude, you are my hero !
Thanks! and thanks for watching my videos!!
I have heard about how this autostart/stop ruins starters but have Yet to see or heard of anyone having such a problem. As they say,,,show me the bodies. THAT being said this video is great. I hate the auto/off and on function as it is a PITA. So I followed the instructions here in and did the deed. I have to say it took longer to watch the video than it did to apply what I saw. GREAT HELP. With that in mind I looked at my 2020 Explorer. Guess What ? It also has this same little plug on the battery cable. NOW it is disabled on that to. Thanks so much for the Help. Amen
Your welcome and thanks for letting us know that it worked on your 2020 Explorer too!

You are welcome a bunch, thanks for watching!
Awesome! Thanks!!
Thanks, Scott! Thanks for watching HowToHeaven
Thank you.
Thanks for this!!! I've had that feature on many a rental car and have hated it. I am taking delivery of a new 2021 Ranger this weekend and knew that I would want this gone, but assumed I'd have to buy one of the OBD2 connectors. Thanks to you, I don't have to!
That said, a lot of people are complaining about "government overreach." I'm confused by this as some people want this and it does provide some value (depending on how you drive and where you drive). The "problem" is not the feature, just that Ford did not create a setting to disable it for the situations where there is no (or a negative) value for the owner.
Valid point! I look at it as a cost benefit analysis. I don't think the wear and tear and replacement cost on the starter is worth the gas savings! It is also an inconvenience. Thanks for watching!
Yes, you are correct that some people may want this, however for me, I would gladly trade the fuel savings of this feature for the cost of a new starter and the labor $ to replace that starter!
Thank you for video. Took me 30 seconds...
Thank You Sir!!
You are welcome and thanks for watching my videos!

You are welcome, mate! Thanks for watching HowToHeaven
Thanks Brother! You saved my sanity. I just bought a $138 Module from Range Technology and it didn't work on my 2021 XLT Ranger! They neglected to tell me that it only works for the F-150. I found your video just as I was reaching the depths of despair and I'm deeply grateful! As a side note, the auto start/stop feature is the worst example of corporate overreach and virtue signaling that I have ever seen. It's no different than having someone reach into your car and turn off the ignition when you're at a stop light. Shame on ford for letting the marketing guys take them over the cliff. And shame on the cowardly engineers who didn't push back on management when they first proposed this stupid idea. I would not have purchased a ford had I known of the start/stop feature. On a happier note, I'm subscribing to your channel based on this video alone, and I look forward to your other vids.
I totally agree on all fronts! Thank you for the compliments, and for subscribing! Check out my latest video if you are into cars (Tucson Cars & Coffee 9/4/21)
Yes it has to be for the model of your vehicle. The "thing in the middle" is inserted into your car's communications network. The messages are often unique to the model of the vehicle. So the start/stop device IDs for different cars and trucks will be different. For example, I have a Ford Maverick. I wouldn't expect the F150 thing to work in my Maverick for this reason. It basically works like >> Push button, the button talks to the network "Hi I'm the ASS button (auto-start-stop) on the Ford Maverick [device ID 12345] and I just disengaged my ASS."
This is what the device "remembers." It remembers that it sends a "disengage" or "engage" message to the car communication network bus. There may be a way, using forscan, to make the F150 device work! I recall a video where a guy installed an upgraded temp control device and it didn't work until he went into forscan and changed the device ID for the temp control device. Then the device worked fine. I imagine you could do the same thing by telling your system the ASS button ID is that of the F150 and it too will begin to work. Now, what that device ID is, I don't know. There are F150 owners out there who could probably ID what forscan settings are needed to make that change. But the device is essentially "spoofing the ASS button" or probably directing a specific mode setting (not a toggle) somehow. Alternatively, the seller of the F150 device might also be able to help you reprogram the thing for your model so that it spoofs the device you have.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are welcome, and thanks for watching my videos!

Im going to try this tomorrow in my 22 ford escape hopefully its thr same way looks like it but wr will see.ty so much i was gonna buy one of those obd2 plugs thanks agsin
You're welcome, and if it works, post back here so that others can benefit! Thanks for watching.
I noticed if you have something plugged into the rear 110v outlet it’s automatically disabled 👍🏼👍🏼
That is most likely because a 110v accessory will drain the battery, and Ford wouldn't want you to have auto stop prevent you from completing your journey.
