    Hellfire is a seriously scary song. Ironic, he is a regular human and somehow the creepiest Disney villain.

      It's the psychological horror he brings. He is more frightening because it's awfully realistic. He wanted to commit Mass genocide and justified his lust as the devil. That more likely and close to home than a sea witch stealing your voice or a lion named scar

      He's the scariest and creepiest villain BECAUSE he's human. Just a dude. Just like any of us. Very possible, and honestly, already extant in real life.

    I noticed you were unsure who the red-robed individuals were, red robes were the common uniform for the inquisition, and his fear of them only dictates how much power they had as Frollo tries to blame others and form an argument with these robed inquisitors.

      They say Mea Culpa, which means "My fault"
      Frollo deep down knows he's wrong, but very deep down

    The scariest monsters are the ones who are real. It makes characters like Frolo so much scarier because people like him have existed and will probably never stop existing.

    One once explained to me that there is also in the song a strong contrast between the behavior of Frolo which is emphasized by his song and, at the opposite, the lyrics of the song in Latin that we hear in the background. Indeed, in the Bible, asking God's forgiveness in a way that God agrees is to act with honesty, humility and a desire to change. All of this can be symbolise by the Mea Culpa that sing the monks. Frolio at the opposite started his song showing pride, refuse to accept any responsibility and showed a desire to kill. He thinks of himself as an example of Christian virtue but in reality he is everything that Jesus condemn

    He also says in the morning that "the fire overcame him" which also suggests carbon monoxide hallucinations which isn't entirely unknown during the time period since they didn't have efficient ventilation

    Spanish, French and Italian sound the most similar and flowy to Latin because they are the closest existing languages to Latin.

    • @bacicinvatteneaca
      @bacicinvatteneaca Před rokem +1

      Not really, Latin had vowel length, which all romance language lost, then regained in a different format, then most of them lost it again (only Portuguese has kept this second generation of vowel length).

      @@bacicinvatteneaca Yes really. They are the CLOSEST languages to Latin that are existing languages. Spanish is a little closer than Portuguese. Italian is definitely closer than Portuguese.

    Catholic Christian here. Yes, that is Latin throughout the song. It's a prayer of confession called the Confiteor, which is said at the beginning of every Catholic Mass.
    The phrases, Kryie Eleison, at the very end are in Greek. They mean, "Lord, have mercy."

    It’s absolutely gobsmacking that a song about unbridled lust and desire to possess and control, to force a woman to have sex with him or be burnt at the stake, made it into a Disney movie. Maybe they thought kids wouldn’t understand? This song wouldn’t make it into a Disney movie today. If you want to hear a version of this song that is even better than the original, check out Jonathan Young’s cover of Hellfire.
