Oblivion coming out was one of the iconic moments in human history. It was probably the pinnacle of the theme park era, when there was still great innovation and fresh ideas, and when a ride opening ws a massive deal even in a country like England where the industry is fairly small. The marketing and the queue was so good that you were ready to shit yourself long before getting on. I was quite young when it came out so wasn't able to ride it but the hype and interest really stuck with me and watching it was terrifying. It may be a very short ride but it just shows you how important theming and storytelling is. It's a shame we will never have those days back.
Completely agree. I was lucky enough to be 12 in 1994 when Nemmy opened, the hype was something else. Now it's all biggest this, most inversions that, stuff the theming and experience. They tried at Alton with Thi3teen and it went OTT, the ride is pretty good but it was a let down compared to the build up.

I remember going on Oblivion when it was new, it was so much better, the suspense in the queue's with the screens playing the ad's etc, and when you got to the tip just before the drop, it held you there much longer, and had the voice from the speakers saying "Don't Look Down!" before dropping you.

It happened to me when I went for the first time; I was wearing slip ons and they’d fall of so I had to take them off. I haven’t made the same mistake since then!
I think they put that as it is a classic scene you see every time you ride any ride their is aways 1 who takes their shoes off, no biggie just a nice theme park thing :)

Omg I just went to Alton Towers today! I rode Oblivion (omg it was AMAZING), Nemesis (Woah! It was scary!), and Galactica (What an experience!) We bought a Nemesis mug, an Oblivion hoodie, a Sloth plush, and a Candy Pizza!! It was so much fun!!
I kinda miss air. I know galactica is the same but still. I wore the vr set once and have been on the ride about 20 times 😂 I prefer it without the vr

Their contract with the company that supplies the VR runs out at the end of this year, they'll probably rebrand it back to Air as Galactica wasn't as popular as they hoped. :p
Love having all the adverts together but hate that music between them! It made my ears bleed.

McScottish naw, it’s just a shite tune that the guy plays. Audio levels are fucked on it. Find myself having to turn it down when it comes on cause it’s too loud then having to turn it back up to hear the advert.

Alton Towers is a place I hold very dear to my heart. I hate the school I’m at right now, went with my last one (which I loved). Going to Alton Towers is always great. Always puts a smile on my face.

Oblivion sucks! :D You need to ride Oblivion at Gardaland, Italy, or Sheikra at Busch Gardens, Tampa. They should bulldoze it or make it longer IMO.
Haha yeah now it is not the biggest or whatever but Alton are height restricted man. For a world first it is hard to bulldoze I guess? Dunno mate but would love to travel the world and try them all lol need lotto win and I will do it :)
PropGear suppose they could always alter it. Lake Garda isn't that far away either man. Gardaland is another merlin park. It's not the best but it's alright. If you ever go to Orlando make sure you include SeaWorld and Busch Gardens in your trip as they have some of the better coasters!

I went to Alton towers around a month a go and I really recommend it .I also recommend the fastpass gold because you can skip all the queue I went on all of those rides without the long queue .Also the food was lovely I would give it fine stars ✅❤❤❤

I went to Alton Towers yesterday and Th13teen and Wicker Man are my favourites! I like the Th13teen advert the most because it is most true to the ride.

My favorite from this is the ad for Thirteen 3:40. I love the spooky athmosphere of typical horror films. It has elements from both The Grudge and Final Destination 3 imo, very creative. That combined with that outro taken from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Grieg is a very nice touch. I know it's used in many other commercials as seen here but I like it the best the way it sounds in that one.
P.S. I'm somewhat obsessed by The Smiler's "Join us!" as well.

Oblivion is still my favourite after all these years. Smiler almost took it but if it didn't have that half way stop it would definitely have taken top spot. Of all the rides here other than octonaughts Th13teen is the ride I never mind missing out on. Its just not that thrilling to me. But I will always go on it so its done.
