The MoveMic is a brand new, all in one, wireless lavalier microphone that can connect directly to your smartphone (iOS or Android) without the need to have a receiver. Your phone IS the receiver via bluetooth.
This mic wins on size alone. Other all in one wireless lav mics are twice or three times the size. The MoveMic is a mic you actually won't mind wearing and is much less visible like a standard lav mic. Discreet.

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely like the mic. It's a little limited in it's use in terms of the not going to third party apps but two mics, direct to phone into the Motiv apps is great. If that setup works for you and you don't want to get the receiver option, this is a great kit!

Yeah, depends on use case but I mostly work in controlled settings so I have to have it though it's nice. Also nice though to not have to do extra work in post and 32 bit can't live-stream. If we're looking for silver linings ;)

Thanks, the first few comments set me straight when I released. Felt dumb and it was a mistake between me and some emails I read wrong from Shure when I was testing the cam. Funny thing is how long I've been reviewing gear before I knew about, guess I've never really looked at that factor but now I do. Yes, the whole video was recorded with the MoveMic. Check out "8:57 Downsides" where I talk about some of the reasons why you might choose another mic. Mostly price and third party app use.

Ray, in your opinion, what's the best sounding wireless lav mic on the market?
Great question and tough! Hard because they will all sound different on different voices, what your preference for tone is, and how they are used/where they are placed. But I also haven't tried enough of them to know. Even though I make fun in this video, I do like the other all in one options, it seems like the majority of what you see these days comes from these few companies. Before the MoveMic, my go to was always an old Tascam DR10L, the video is 5+ years old but this was the mic I still used for most of my video czcams.com/video/P53IC1dj6Fw/video.html But that's not wireless. Honestly I used this cause I got tired of setting up wireless and having to have batteries in both the transmitter and receiver and the cam. Too much management so I just recorded and sync'd in post. If I picked up one of the all-in-one wireless options that wasn't the MoveMic, I'd probably also grab the lavalier mic option cause I still want the mic to be discreet. Since I don't film much content on my phone, it would be amazing to see one of these mics sync to a camera's wifi or bluetooth and then I'd be really set! ;)

When you have both mics connected direct to the phone and recording in the video app, the mics clipped onto two people standing right next to each other and both are taking turns talking to camera. How does this system handle mic bleed, hearing the voice of person 1 in the mic of person 2 with a tiny delay, creating an echo? You mention you can record them separate left and right for mixing yourself in post, I assume you can also record them both together centered in a stereo mix? Is there any auto mixing happening in that case? How well does it work when the 2 people talk over each other?
The bleed seems typical of any two mics within the same proximity, it's not bad. And yes you can record a mixed channel instead of separated so that it's ready to go as soon as you're done recording. No auto-mix. There should be no issues with talking over each other in terms of anything getting stepped on, that's generally an issue found when recording online (Zoom, browsers, etc) not in person.
Hey Ray, thanks for the review. I just bought a DJI mic2 kit to go with my Osmo Pocket 3. I’ve been able to connect the Mic2 receiver to my RodeCasterPro v1 - but with meddling results. Having said that I’m still getting so-so results from the Mic2s that were in the kit.
Yesterday I tried the Mic2 kit out with a small mixing board we use at our photo club - disaster - hollow voice in a cave sound with feedback so quickly gave up on that option.
Do you know of the Sure mic receiver could be connected to a RCPv1 ?
I have a two studio setup (desktop + demo studio) and was thinking the DJI would be a solution/replacement option for the Sennheiser GW3s I’ve been using - but it has so far been tough finding the right RCP settings to make it work.
Hefty price or not, if the Sure worked better than the DJI I’d be all in.
What do you think?
OK, you sent me down the rabbit hole on this one, congrats! I also have the RCP v1 so I connected the MoveMic receiver to two different inputs and ran some tests. Here ya go! soundcloud.com/rayortega/sets/shure-movemic-receiver-to-rodecaster-pro-v1-inputs One thing I didn't mention on the recordings because I tested it after, is that since the MoveMic can connect two mics and output to separate channels, you need to use the phone input on the RCP to make this work because it is a stereo channel whereas the mic channels (of course) are mono.
@@RayOrtega 😂 sorry about the rabbit hole, but many thanks for the quick audio clips. In fact while the audio levels were pretty low they were much clearer than what I’ve been able to achieve with my DJI mic2 on the RCP1. I too have the receiver connected to channel 4 on the RCP1 - using a Rode 3.5 mm to XLR dongle - and I used the Dynamic mic setting for the RCP mic. Was that the right initial setting?
I’ve spent hours ripping through the rest of the settings, changing one thing at a time, then combos, as well as changing the gain on both the receiver and the mics - but still got nowhere near the clarity of sound you achieved.
@@TheDeliveryDoctor I'm always happy to go down the rabbit hole, I learn a lot! As for levels, these are great production levels and then they'd do nicely when brought up in post production. If it's a live-stream then yes, you need to increase the levels but on channels 1-4 you have that ability. And yes Dynamic mic is the setting I use as well. Glad this was helpful and thanks for sharing your results.
Update! I opened the files in my DAW cause they sounded odd to me and I forgot the RCP files are Polywav! As in, you were hearing all 12 channels! So I broke them out into mono and the channel with the recording (isolated) sounds even better. I never used the RCP to record so I brainfaded lol.

I hear a high frequency noise in some of the shots. is that coming from the mic, or some other source?
I noticed something different when, ironically, I did the noise reduction test but that is coming from my space. I have a weird RF issue that shows up in almost all mics and makes it really hard to do reviews but I don't think there's an issue with the mic..just my room ;)
Late to this but hey, it's definitely the MoveMic. I have the same exact tone on mine, and there are other videos on YT with the same thing too. Most other videos, I can tell they clearly removed it in post or try to cover it with music - so props Ray for not removing it and leaving it in. The issue comes and goes, but it's there for sure.

@@MichaelNobleMusic Thanks for letting me know you have the same issue. I always have issues cause of my space so it's really interesting to hear that someone else has experienced it as well. Hoping it's an issue that can be corrected with firmware if it indeed is common. If it's a shielding issue, then it's a much bigger problem.
@@RayOrtega Haha yeah so you sort of have both happening on top of each other, I would have ignored it too if I were you. I tested indoor, outdoor, direct to PC, three different cameras, two different interfaces, different TRS and XLR cables and that little tone popped up on all of them at some point and was the worst when I used a TRS to XLR cable. Comes and goes, really can't figure out what causes it though. I would assume it's the receiver. I think the only time it's always absent is if you record to the motiv app via bluetooth.

As a professional wedding DJ, I have been using the DJI products for back up ceremony sound needs when something goes off the rails. That is what I could see this being used with the distance of 100 feet for.

Can the movemic connect to phone and receiver and use it together in the same time?
I don’t think so but if you had the receiver, I could think of ways to hack it using the multiple outputs but I definitely wouldn’t buy it for that purpose.
Are you able to mute the different mics individually from the receiver screen itself?

@@RayOrtega Yes, I think I mistakenly interpreted that that MUTE only be engaged on the transmitter. MUTE can also be engaged to mute each individual mic from the app when paired with the transmitter?
@@kirbykracklemusic ah great question and yes! You can mute each mic individually from inside the app. So that would be very helpful for someone like yourself running the mics remotely.

If this won't work with third party video apps, NO SALE.
I'm not giving up my Blackmagic or Cinema P3 apps for this admittedly desirable mic. DJI can do it. Why can't Shure?
Yeah it’s definitely dependent on how you work. When I asked, Shure said she t was a limitation of their new tech that allows two mics to connect without a receiver. Definitely a compromise had to be made. I’m hopeful that they can change this in a future firmware update but not holding my breath.
I think you can use the reciever with the phone by using 3.5 to lightning/usb cable
@@boodai88 Correct, if you have the receiver kit but with just the mic connected to the phone, you need to use the Motiv App.
Would not recommend this mic to anyone. My friend bought it and its not syncing easy and has ton of issues! for example opening the camera app will stop the recording when minimizing the app,... No internal recording this mic is worth less than 90 bucks there are better options out there... better options are there under 200 and the top of the line mics are 400...

But as always it is an aggressive pushed maxed out sound. What about life like audio? No compression of loudness at all. Pure reproduction. Great demo. But boring. More of the same. Insta-content.
Thanks for watching. What you hear in this video is pretty true to the mic. The level was only raised so that it's consumable here on youtube but definitely no limiting or heavy compression. Bringing up the audio has no effect on the native sound of the mic, if anything it also lets you hear if there are any noise floor issues. I used no EQ aka the flat option and did use noise reduction that the mic supplies because that is how I would use it and it's a built in feature of the mic.
@@RayOrtega Good information, then what we hear is the processing that the microphone system applies. Yes noise reduction was strong. The noise gate cuts start and end of most words. To me it also sucks the lift out of the sound as well. All nuances and textures of a voice, meaning the fidelity, are also gone.
Just a note. Røde have a similar problem. Damage control on their system is to set it at -21 och -24dB and gain in the camera instead. Then it is sort of usable.
@@danielenstrom1873 Yes, any processing is native unless I note it, which I sometimes do my own processing later in the video as a demonstration/comparison.
