Quick story: Brenda chose this song to sing for the Queen of England at the Royal show in 1964. Just as she came out to sing, a "funny" kind of problem caused a delay. Even a veteran performer might have been rattled by the situation, but not Brenda! She stepped up to the mike, hit the big note at the end and left to a standing ovation. Of course, when the Queen stands up to applaud, then everyone else does too.
Someone asked what the problem was, but after I answered, they deleted their comment. My answer was: It was a show business "bit"; where the British singers like Cilla Black were driven onstage in small English sports cars while Brenda was chauffeured in a big American auto - a Lincoln, I think. However, the man escorting her out of the car couldn't get the door open! Probably they didn't understand how the electric locks worked. It is funny to see the man yanking on the handle though.
Brenda Lee was about 18 years old in 1962. (Born Dec. 11, 1944) She sure had a grown up voice; a very mature vocalist!
In this case, she is 17 in Feb '62. She started doing nightclubs already in late '61 at 16. The voice, of course, but I've come to realize she excelled at virtually all showbiz skills. And that is maybe even more remarkable than her big voice.

The great Brenda Lee ! She and Patsy were my moms favorite girl singers from the 50's and 60's. Growing up, we'd listen to Brenda while on road trips. One half of the trip would be Brenda and the return trip would be Patsy.
Nice memory! Despite the age difference, Patsy and Brenda were good friends. Brenda has told how painful Patsy's tragic death was for her personally. She happened to be on a European tour when the bad news came. Being unable to return to Nashville for the services just made the pain more acute.

I like the way Brenda uses the full volume of her mouth as she sings. When we danced to her music in high school I never knew that she was three months younger than I.
She can belt it out, but still have precise control of the volume and pitch.
She has such an amazing voice to come out of such a small body 🥰.

On this day in herstory: June 12, 1962, Brenda dislocated a vertebra in her neck during a performance at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NewJersey. She was forced to cancel the last six days of her engagement and spend the rest of the week at Cooper Hospital in Camden. Dick Clark, who was broadcasting the daily American Bandstand show from nearby Philadelphia, taped an interview with an immobilized Brenda still in traction.

She was just a junior in high school, but also a veteran television performer with about 9 straight top ten hits.
*Where is the microphone?* Looking at it years later, I realize that the camera and mike are on a "truck" that moves along side her in the opening sequence before stopping directly in front for most of the song. You can see Brenda projecting her voice forward. Near the end, the director reveals a large space over her head. Apparently, the truck also has hydraulics to lift and lower the camera. So the whole vid is just one camera. Brenda looks and projects up during this part.
Cleverly worked out. It didn't occur to me, I think everything happens by magic. 🤗

Unknown, of course, unless buried in some forgotten interview. He at least enjoyed the royalties as Brenda's albums were all over the charts during this period. I will say that her last note is stronger than Frank's. 😇

"You talkin' to me?" Brenda names Hank Wiliams and Mahalia Jackson as influences, but she really doesn't sound like either of them, Her style seems to have flowed from within. She sounds like no singer who went before or any who have emerged since. Unique and inimitable, she's just Brenda!

Abuse? I have no idea what you are saying! As far as size/arms, Brenda is tiny, only 4 ft 9 in. At the time, it was startling to see her big voice come out of someone that small. Now, I realize that the video audience is getting younger and did not experience Brenda in her heyday. Anyway, her arms are normal length, but her upper torso is short which is sometimes called "short-waisted". Not in proportion with her legs, in other words.
She was just 17 here but only a few months away from marrying the man who is still her husband. She had also already recorded this song about 2 yrs earlier on an album entitled “All The Way.” But what is MOST important is - you don’t seem to understand that when this VERY popular song was written in the 1950s and continued to be covered by many artists for many yrs, it did NOT mean what you think it means today! The term “all the way” - was used a LOT - and everyone knew it meant “Completely” or “totally” -- as in “ I’m gonna love you totally - 100% -- deeply and permanently.” Innuendos were not permitted in mainstream pop culture Bach then and no one took them in that way.
