I've studied A-Level maths and this is the first time I've come across this and I'm just wondering why anybody would ever use DMS form to express an angle? In what ways does it make things easier than simply expressing angles using degrees?
I just got a good gps and put it in connection with a micro controller. I have to understand what I'm writing on a display to avoid errors. I have re-checked a couple of times because my code is going to be sitting somewhere for a long time. Let's imagine I share it and it becomes a global issue/bug in some of it.
You can easily convert degree minute second values into decimal degrees value in Microsoft Excel instantly. The length and amount of data is not a problem at all.
