In addition to applying a bit of turning force to the wheel, you can also adjust the sound volume with the left scroll wheel when it wants an indication that you're awake. I usually just increase and decrease the volume by one tick to make it happy.
Moving either the left or right scroll wheels work!
Thanks!
I was thinking, they should just make a dead-mans button instead of using the steering wheel for that. Like they have in trains. Have a button on a position where you can comfortably rest your arm which you have to tap every once in a while.
I never knew this
Thank you so much for posting these videos! They are so helpful when deciding what to buy!
Thank you. Another fantastic educational video. You are very good at informing folks on real world issues, questions, and helpful tips/solutions on owning a Tesla.
Thank you very much, this is excellent! This is the first video I've found that easily explains and actually shows the relevant differences between these functions. I also appreciate you recapping the main points again.
I really appreciate this video! You are an excellent teacher!
Thanks for this. Your video is the first video to demonstrate the blue tint screen, jiggle the wheel thing. I learned a lot.
This is genuinely a great video thank you sir for taking the time to educate about Tesla’s Auto drive options.
Mr. Ev Dave your videos are so educational and informative thank you very much. Keep making videos.
Thank you for this video! I learned so much from it.
Just orded my Tesla today! Thank you so much. Your video helped influence my decision.
Excellent description and review of basic autopilot! Thank you!
Thanks, Dave. That really answered my questions.
Very good examples. Thank you for posting this. I think basic autopilot is enough for me.
Thanks Dave, I'm finally found what I have been looking for. can't wait to see you next video FSD video.
Hank and Luna have every reason to be excited.
We’ve just finished a 2 week trial of ‘enhanced autopilot’ here in the UK. Most of the roads are a bit tight and crowded for it at the moment, but on the dual carriage ways, the ‘change lanes on indicate’ feature is a Godsend. As that’s the only feature that we’d need (until AP becomes fully autonomous), £3,400 is a bit out of reach. But apart from having to disengage ‘basic autopilot’ to change lane, it is a superb feature to have as standard.
Very clear video...it should become an official ‘instructional’ item.
Thanks from the UK, I’ve already ordered a model 3 but was unsure about how the lane change worked on the standard autopilot. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 😀
I love your videos! Informational and also Luna & Hank are adorable 😊
thank you, very detail.
Another great tutorial, Dave!
Thanks very much. I learned a lot from your vid. Good job. Subscribed.
Thank you for showing that the SR+ is plenty fast and good! Everyone always praises the LR over the SR+, and they don’t ever mention the weight that you did!
A very detailed informative video.
This cleared up so much for me on my purchase thank you !
SAME!! I was feeling a little lost for a couple months……good thing for CZcams and kind people willing to put out quality content for all of us!
Thanks for the instructions very helpful.😎
Knowing next to nothing about Tesla I started out by watching a news special about the autopilot and tragic crashes that occurred. At one point in that program it showed an excerpt from a CZcams video and I thought there must be some interesting videos of people testing out the features. I will tell you after watching that news program and a few others I was totally unsold on the idea of driving a Tesla but your video turned that all around and gave me confidence to have a more positive attitude. For sure there is a learning curve with going from completely manual driving which we have done for over 100 years to using the computer self-assisted or self-driving and when to use each feature, but maybe in the long run it's a more pleasant driving experience.
Excellent demonstration, great job 👏
Thanks young Man. This is super.
Thank you! :)
Yes, very helpful! Great video!
Thanks for sharing .
Thanks Dave you have a great way of explaining |I someone new to Tesla find very helpful
Best regards Marco
Sakin ve güzel bir anlatım olmuş. 👍🏼
Emeğiniz için teşekkürler 🙂
That was very informative and well-described. Thank you and best wishes
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Just be sure that options haven't changed.
You are a great teacher! So well explained.
Wow, thank you!
Great show I learn a lot from you and now I'm getting more interested in buying Tesla.
Every new modern car with Active Cruise Control software and cameras/radars can do what Enhance AutoPilot does..
GM has SuperCruise.
Ford has it, even their low end crossover have it. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai/Kia have it as well.
I learned a lot from this video.
Dave, thank you for excellent tutorial on AP. Too bad new Tesla’s don’t come standard with enhanced AP for lane changes. FSD doesn’t make sense for leased vehicles, but subscription may help.
Good job Dave.
Good job Dave
Thank you for the clear explanation sir!
Glad it was helpful!
I like the way AutoSteer changes the lanes on its' own, without manual assistance.
thanks lecturer
Very well explained.
Also you talk very calmly Thank you sir😊
Thanks and welcome
Another great video.
After reading about Tesla driver charged with2counts of manslaughter I also read the 5comments. One suggested autopilot should be permanently disabled. Anyhow I moved on and I wondered how autopilot actually worked. I had read about the first death crash before I retired. Sooo, I decided to see what it's all about. Glad I checked this out. Very informative. I have a better understanding of Tesla autopilot. You just can't set it and forget it. You MUST be AWARE at all times. I am considering EV in the future. Great educational vid.
Excellent video! And yes, we also get phantom braking but surely that will improve as Elon tweaks each detail.
Great video
Nice pups.....
Amazing video!
Nice video 👍
Very good
Just saw you on an NDE Show here on CZcams
I’ll never forget your eyes!
And your testimony
GOOD STUFF.
Thanks Dave. You've answered my biggest question for basic autopilot, as I was fearing how to change lanes without the cruise control being shut off, and the regen braking slowing the Tesla before I can get my foot on the accelerator. I'm glad to see cruise control can be maintained as you signal the turn and drop out of auto steer, maintaining traffic aware cruise speed. I've been asking this question on several autopilot vids, but getting confusing responses, I think, because they assume I have fsd. Tesla, please make enhanced autopilot available again sometime in the future, that would make it perfect for the average driver. One person suggested how to switch between autosteer cruise control and just cruise control, pressing down once on the right gearshift knob.
I posted this video on Twitter. The public needs to know. I hope Tesla hires you to video teach the manual.
I think is very cool
Thank you for this tutorial! Made me feel like I was receiving an interesting lecture from a professor that really wanted me to pass their class. Nice 👍🏾
Thanks for the video my one friend just tried telling me full self driving can just drive he needs to watch this
Lots of disinformation that you will hear about auto pilot I think because the other guys just don’t have it
@@evdave528 I don't have a Tesla ether but I do get what you mean as for many people it doesn't just keep moving he only going by news and channels that are just clout chasers I actually put the time to understand what will happen then what has and give proper information
Just subbed yo your channel. 👍🏼
Great tutorial, very well explained. Thanks Dave
Dave, I just took delivery of my Model Y last week. Your video was perfect for explaining how it all works. Thank you!
Enjoy it!!
Thanks for the tutorial EV dave. I’m leaving Tuesday on the 2400 mile round-trip for the first time on my model three standard range plus. I just purchased the basic auto pilot this week and been trying it but trying to get over the hurdle of trust in the car when it’s on.Will use it as much as possible during the trip
Just keep your hand on the wheel until you feel more comfortable, it won’t take long. Remember to factor in wind and take it easy on each leg at the beginning. Have a great trip. Remember rule 1, draft if you need to
@@evdave528 Great tips, thanks.
@@evdave528 your trick worked like a champ Dave, thanks. Kept car at minimum speed 65-70mph for first 10-15 miles and once I saw good enough buffer in the graph and sped up. Got to next stop w low charges within buffer and charged faster at next stop.
@@evdave528 thx for tips. Trip went well. Here is video of it. Phantom breaking was awful. czcams.com/video/1k9HRnT8mj8/video.html
It is absolutely fascinating how far we have come , but me personally couldn’t sit there I would be panicking and would have no clue what to do with myself
This car is genius
Great video. However I can't afford a Tesla, so I reserved a Fisker Ocean Ultra. Hopefully I will receive it in early 2023.
Great video on Basic AP and I loved how you did the recap :)
Hi Dave, great video! I do have a general question. Is it safe for you to make a youtube video while driving your car, autopilot or not?
U should be the next spokesman for Tesla.
Mostly correct except follow distance is set by the TACC or left blue ring not autopilot.
How do you turn on cruse control or auto pilot without turning on FSD? You explained very well what each function does. I only saw how to turn on FSD.
“So we can find some victims” hahahah!
Love the down to earth attitude.
Thanks Dave. As you know I just got my Model 3 last week and I was wondering what came with it as I didn’t upgrade anything so I just have the basic package.
Ed, if you didn’t order upgraded Autopilot you have basic AP but it includes all of the safety features Standard. Did you order the Mobile or Wall Connector?
@@evdave528 No. I have a Chevy Bolt and installed a Juicebox wall connector about 6 months ago. I wish I had installed a Tesla wall connector and just usd an adapter for my Bolt but I didn't think I'd get a Tesla for a few years. So now I'm using the Juice box and the connector for the Tesla. It's a little awkward because I doesn't automatically open the charge port and it doesn't disconnect unless I go in the car and choose stop charging, then disconnect. Took me a few tries to figure that out because it simply wouldn't let the adapter go.
What road rage features are built in and are they user selectable?
I don’t think enhanced autopilot is a separate option anymore, it has been rolled into FSD option. Too bad.
So are you saying new model S refresh doesn’t come standard with enhanced auto-pilot? Due to leasing, it makes no sense to buy FSD. But if low cost, will subscribe for road trips.
@@johnpoldo8817 True, no more Enhanced AutoPilot offered in U.S. I got my Model Y Dec 2020, and the only Autopilot upgrade available is to $10K FSD. I'd love to get the Enhanced Autopilot features Dave says are available, at a reasonable cost, but just not an option anymore,.
Damn, no auto park?
No summon feature?
No auto lane change?
In 2021 what is the additional charge for enhanced autopilot? Does this show up as an option for the Long Range Model Y on the order page? Can enhanced autopilot be purchased without FSD? I know it was mentioned in the video but I did not see it as an option on the order page.
I’ve seen your car around town lol
Does basic auto pilot turn on the auto headlight high beam switch?
Hey Dave, I have basic autopilot on my model y. How do I get advanced? I only see FSD in the upgrade menu. Do you know how much advanced autopilot is? Or if it is available at all?
Is Enhanced Autopilot available for Mode Y as add on ?
The centre of the lane is not necessarily the best position to maintain, particularly on bends. AP will instantly deactivate at critical points and drivers will need to expect that to happen at all times, negating the point of AP. FSD remains with the car and does not transfer with the owner. So should you buy another Tesla in future, if you want FSD in it, you’ll need to buy it again.
Will Basic Autopilot read speed signs and adjust your speed to match accordingly..
Hello Sir, How we’re you able to get your navigation to face North? Mine is sideways and whenever I rotate it, it always goes back to how it is
I haven’t seen any video actually go into the Autopilot screen to show/explain each feature/selection.
I'd wish for TESLA to add high efficiency (bent) solar panels on the top/roof (optionally) as well as SMD/chip-based energy supply units... (Technically NOT "free energy" but at least "surrounding energy" being converted!)
Hank and Luna 💓
👍
On navigate on Autopilot, you can set up the autopilot to make the lane changes for you unless it has changed.
How do you get the speed limit so big? Thanks 3:33
Im not sure whats basic auto pilot like? Is there any part of this video that describes basic auto pilot?
What Tesla model is in the video?
Looks to me like the setting 1-7 is not car lengths, but seconds.
2-7
How does that self drive work in the winter? Is it usable when the roads are covered in ice/snow?
The software in AP is being developed check out brianribedriveselectric on CZcams
AP has some minor issues. Regular AP sometimes gets a brain fart and thinks there’s something in front and will rapidly break. Very confusing. When your letting it steer watch out for exits on the highway, it sometimes has a tendency to drive off on the exit! FSD? Not anytime soon.
I seen the screen telling you to show it you haven't fallen asleep. How often do you have to do something to show the car you haven't fallen asleep?
Thanks
Jim

If you keep your hand hanging on the wheel it’s happy. It will bug you every 30-45 seconds looking for wheel torque ( weight on the wheel)
yea that grabbing the wheel every 10 seconds would be a no go for me
It is called "Blinker" in the US as well?
Sounds like some German influence, lol!
If you use the blinker to auto-switch lane, but there is a car just about to overtake you for which the autopilot has to wait, will it still turn on the blinker? It shouldn't at least as the blinking should wait until you are actually going to move over. If the car turns the blinker on while another car is about to overtake it, the overtaking car would get angry as it would suggest him becoming cut off.
It waits the lane is clear leaving the blinker on
What are the chances of it failing mid drive?
Hi EV Dave great videos! I’ve just got a 2019 MX and love the car. My issue with Autopilot is the phantom braking which occurs on most journeys with AP engaged. I’m in the UK so AP is a bit different due to EU legislation, something to do with limiting the steering wheel angle. So just wondered if you get phantom braking where you drive as not seen in in your videos.
Hi Harry, yes you can get phantom braking from time to time. Just be mindful it might happen and be ready to goose it
@@evdave528 It does test my reflex action mashing the accelerator into the carpet.
I just finished a 1,500 mile road trip in my 2021 Model 3. My software version is 2020.47.104, which is old. I found it's most prevalent on two lane roads when approaching the crest of a hill. I only had it happen once on a four lane highway when going under a bridge with a shadow.
Hook to WiFi and upgrade your software, they improve stuff all of the time
@@evdave528 Yes, I have had it connected to my Wi-Fi but I’ve been told that it won’t update until the next software version is pushed to cars. I just have to be patient.
