    Excellent video. We’re neighbors! I spend most of my river time digging bottles and bones or magnet fishing. No better way to spend a day.

    Awesome video Brother , I'm a retired Texan dude living in Mexico now , i remember when I was a kid back in the 70s we went down to visit an uncle of mine to help him out on his beet farm up in Perley, Minnesota , The Red River was like 1/4 mile down the road and while we were up there ,i never lost an opportunity to fish the Red River an much as possible, it's probably been the best cat fishing experiences I've had in my life !! ✌🏻👽🍄💚😚💨💨💨💨💚🍄👽✌🏻

      @@TheRiverAddict update: wow, this video is the best for a beginner like me! I followed what you did, and landed a channel on my 3rd cast! Another one after another 3 casts! Total bonus is that the Red is about a half mile from my door! Thanks so much!

      @@TheRiverAddict hi again! So I’ve gone all in a couple rods from Madkatz and was wondering what size that BG is? Any other spinning reels you’d recommend? And thanks again for this video, made my summer more enjoyable!

    • @TheRiverAddict
      @TheRiverAddict  Před 2 lety +1

      @@matthewhawn9070 I use the Bg 3000 series reel! I love it. On my other rod I use a diawa crossfire 3000 series reel. The Bg runs about 110 bucks and the crossfire runs about 30 bucks.
      I’m pretty biased to Diawa reels, I think they just make a quality product for the price. Any reel that can hold 30lb-50lb braid or mono would work fine though.
      The Penn Fierce is also a very popular reel for catfishing. That one has a bait clicker on it.

    Awesome video! As an Ohio resident don't know if you've heard of Sandusky Bay? Gets alot of hype like the Red River for channel cats. I've been there a hand full of times starting this year and have pulled out two close to 20 pounds. Which is very common there

      Haven’t heard of it, but sounds like a place I wouldn’t mind fishing! Thanks for watching

  • @christophersmithsr.5900

    Can you pin that exact spot, I live in Moorhead MN and love fishing off the river but it’s hard for me to find good places to fish with few snags.

      Anywhere on the red is full of cats. I stuck a 13, 15, 16 and 21lbr yesterday. Find a hole, cast some goldeye out there and bam fish on.

    Im just 13 and live just outside of fargo, i want to fish the reds but my brother who is an avid fisherman finds them "gross" because of bullheads. So im trying to convince my dad too. But he also hates catfishing because of all the snags. So im at a standstill here😂

      Yeah man that’s unfortunate that they have those opinions. It’s one of the hardest fighting sport fish in the world.
      When I was your age I just rode my bike with a wagon attatched to the back to the river. If I were you thats what I would do!

    • @TheRiverAddict
      @TheRiverAddict  Před rokem +1

      @@user-le5iw2od3t I have, you can find some nice fish in there. Walleye, pike, bass, catfish, carp, suckers. Try finding some bridges, dams, woodpiles, deeper stretches of the river. Things like that. Good luck

    Lay your goldeye on salt and cover with salt for 12 hours. Makes them pretty tough on the hook.

    • @TheRiverAddict
      @TheRiverAddict  Před rokem

      I have never heard of this? But it makes perfect sense that salt curing a fish would toughen it up.
      Will definitely be giving this a shot. I’m curious if it would toughen up frozen goldeye. I’ve had issues with previously frozen goldeye getting pretty mushy after a couple minutes in the water. Thanks for the tip 👍

    • @eduffy4937
      @eduffy4937 Před rokem +1

      @@TheRiverAddict I typically salt cover them 12hours then freeze. With previously frozen I'd think you could saltwater brine them to toughen them up. Another great bait I use a lot on the red is whatever cheapest canned catfood I can find and I wrap them up in women's pants hose material. I buy the boxed socks you see at stores for women that don't have socks to try on shoes. They're cheap and you get a lot of bait balls that way. Just like a big spawn sack for salmon. Lay it out put a big dobb of catfood into it, then tie it up with 10oe 12 wraps of magic thread. I prepare a Rubbermaid lunch tote full of them and freeze them. Run a 5/0 big cat circle through the bag just under the know in the bag and chunk it out there. Try it. It's hard to beat.
