In my opinion this is caused by the following unintended interaction: normally shields with high guard boosts receive diminishing returns from guard boost bonuses, preventing them from getting that value too high. They added this in a patch to prevent that stuff with the infinitely blocking Fingerprint from release and whatnot. Remember that guard boost is the % of the incoming attack's stamina damage that gets blocked, so small changes in it matter a lot at high values. Since the Dueling Shield's base block value is pretty low and it clearly gets a big bonus from the block-attacks, I think it's only taking the base block into account for this system so the block-attack bonus + the Greatshield Talisman are bypassing the fix and taking the shield to a value of 90+ guard boost when block-attacking or "shield poking", which is insane.

@@_Zealant_ Regular 2h block is much weaker as shown in the video. The issue appears when you attack with it.
This probably has something (a lot) to do with the fact that DLC appears to have dropped with somewhat an older build of data. This is supported by the fact that some old glitches, that have since been patched, are back with the DLC setups (Nanaya deathblight for example) and many of the poise values of the new DLC weapons are clearly off, having values basically from the pre-poise balance patch.
In some way this makes sense, since the DLC has been allegedly in the making basically from the release times of ER but how this kind of difference in databuilds gets to fly while the base game is patched for *over a year* is fucking beyond me.
That’s true! I just looked at the spreadsheet. Also I would like to say, I really don’t like the poise values for attacks getting even higher for this patch. With every patch they’re making being fashionable harder :(
That's weird. Stability is supposed to go down when you attack. Even in older souls games, you can bash enemies with shields when you two hand them and their attacks had block frames from the start but iy was at the cost of lowered stability. This increases stability. That's gotta be a bug.

Starting to wonder if you even need the GS talisman with this. Maybe pearl shield or viridian amber would be better?

I made a build with 15 intelligence to use this shield. I only have 49 str, but it is brought up to 54 thanks to the helmet I'm wearing (horned warrior helmet). Thank you for your support!
As I suspected! I also wanted to ask: since larva tears are limited, do you use the glitch to avoid consuming them when you respec, or do you use the cloud?
@@AndreaRanzani I just reload my save using the cloud. Though dlc does have more larval tears which I have yet to pick up.
If anyone is stuggling against dueling shields the sword of knight AOW hard counters them. It ignores shields entirely.

We found that low recovery setups were the most consistent option. Shamshir, Cleanrot ts, and offdag/hand axe setups with a high damage main hand worked quite well and could avoid Blind Spot’s reaction punishes.
7:50 - Bleed triggered, but no damage. Then 10 seconds later, bleed again, but normal damage.
Can someone explain?

Yeah that won't work. Its shown in the video that kick can be completely ignored with the poke attack.
Bloodfiend arm + sleepxbow works well vs this set up
I really should have mentioned the Sleep crossbow! Yes it would be quite strong vs this, they'd need to abandon the idea of just tanking everything in your face.

lol all of you seem to forget that there are literally 2 weapons in the game that bypass and shield/guard ability in the game
the sword of hidden words and the cyphered pata
againts turtlers i always use these weapons because the aow just pierces through the block
the other option would be the can opener
using a longsword with the duel stance

Pro tip: Stay the f out of the arenas until next patch lol it’s worse than ever. Unless you really want to stand still like an idiot with a sleep shotgun and a broken bleed club. Nobody wants to play like that they just do it anyway.
you can counter it by using swift slash. This is clearly by design

the thrusting shield in the offhand is fun and takes timing to play, mainhand thrusting shield is almost as bad as golden crux and swift slash

The lower level pvp goes, the more broken everything is and don't blame devs for it.
More poise and less dmg deal is a recipe for snooze fest duels like these happen.
