Phoebe Bridgers - “Killer" from 'Stranger In The Alps,' out now on Dead Oceans Download / stream: phoebebridgers.lnk.to/strange... Directed by Gus Black vevo.ly/Jl81eC
I know some people think it’s meaningless to speculate about which music you would want played at your funeral, because when you’re dead, you’re dead. But I honestly, really want this song to be played at my funeral. It makes me feel things I can’t explain, all of Phoebe’s music does. It’s absolutely beautiful. The part where she sings about death always gets me. “I hope you kiss my rotten head and pull the plug, now that I’ve burned every playlist. I’ve given all my love.” You’re absolutely amazing Phoebe.
I'm currently enrolled in a theology class at my university called Death and Dying and one of my assignments this week was to plan my funeral/memorial. I had to choose which one I preferred, whether I want a visitation, what I want done with my body, choose what hymns and/or music I want to be played, choose any scriptures I'd like to have read, and also state my reasoning for the hymns music and scriptures I selected. I also had to complete an assignment detailing my wishes were I to become mentally/physically incapable of caring for myself and if I were to become terminally ill. I had to choose who I'd give my power of attorney to, whether I wanted to remain in my home with full time caregivers, with a family member and supplemental caregivers, or in a nursing home. I had to decide whether or not I wanted hospice services, if I would elect to die with dignity via physician assisted suicide if I had 6 months or less to live, decide whether or not I wanted various treatments to keep me alive longer, and also I had to detail any other final wishes I may have. The final assignment for this week is to compose my own obituary which I am in the process of writing. It's quite an interesting class. I think a lot of people would be disturbed by the coursework but I am enjoying the class.
@@eneascesarramos4583 obviously it is, “I hope you pull the plug” is referring to death! But other than that I understand what you mean, it’s probably not the main point of the song
Since she mentions Dahmer and says the part of the rotten head, I always assumed she was talking about Jeffrey Dahmer and his collection of human remains. He wanted to create compliant lovers by drugging or drilling holes into the skulls of his victims and pouring hot water or acid inside; he also cannibalised them because he didn't wanted them to ever leave him. Dunno, I think it's a possible interpretation.
This part broke me: "But when I'm sick and tired When my mind is barely there When a machine keeps me alive And I'm losing all my hair I hope you kiss my rotten head And pull the plug "
It is heartbreaking to me to know that such a talented and beautiul young person has to deal with the horrors of depression and anxiety. I am very happy that she has found success in her music.
Idk what it is, but this song gives me a feeling I can’t explain. It’s a kind of sadness, melancholy vulnerability. It’s just interesting and pretty cool. I love this song so much.
My dad was an alcoholic growing up, so I convinced myself the taste of beer going down his throat was better than knowing my favorite color or how I take my eggs. His promise to make an effort was always said behind his drunk eyes. My ex cheated on me after 3 years. Now I’m with a wonderful fucking human. He is so amazing and pure and kind and thoughtful. He embodies all that I want. Sometimes I’m a killer. I let my anxiety consume me. The thoughts I don’t. Deserve it come to me. I tell myself I’m not enough.
Rowan Lafontaine My Dad did the same thing to me. His addiction is opioids though. I know the exact feeling that you’ve experienced/experiencing. I moved away from home and built the life I always wanted. This past week my Dad has gone back into the hospital, which has sent me back in a hole of emotions.
I know how you feel. I've experienced quite similar things. Sometimes my self doubt eats me up, but there are also always times that bring me up again - so I clinch to that
Just outstanding. Sometimes songs take a few listens to really grow and hit you hard. This one had me in tingles all the way through and really took the wind out of me. God she is astounding.
For me Phoebe is one of the geatest discoveries in the last 10 or 20 years. Great traditional American song writing in it's best sense. It's because of artists like Phoebe why I can never dislike the United States. I can only say "Thank you, Phoebe!"
This video is exactly how I pictured the song in my head - grey landscape, a moon peeking out behind foggy clouds, walking barefoot on an endless highway... Beautiful song and beautiful images.
This song hits me too hard. I’m definitely falling in love with someone where it feels kind of hopeless and like it might not go anywhere, but I’m too stupid in love to go for anyone else. Anyway, gorgeous video for a gorgeous song
So I've been told. I'll try to have faith in that, since I know now that love with this person isn't going to happen for me. Until the next one I guess haha
I am glad you kids have a good singer songwriter in these dark times of idiocy. I am almost 40 and I found this nice writer Phoebe randomly a few weeks ago. It's very good and sadly rare for these times. Times of mumble and pop and sexploitation over substance.
“when a machine keeps me alive and i’m losing all my hair i hope you kiss my rotten head and pull the plug” i lost my grandma to cancer and this breaks me down every time. sometimes i imagine it’s what she was telling us, in the end she lost all her hair and we had to make the decision if she died or stayed with us.

Hi
yeah
Beautiful ❤️
Wow, and I love your music so much too!
YES TESSA
"I'm sick of the chase, but I'm stupid in love, and there's nothing I can do." damn.
"But I can't sleep next to a body, even harmless in death. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'd miss you, and faking sleep to count your breath." Argh, her mind.

I am glad Phoebe is finally getting more recognition. She is extremely talented.
What a lyricist. Absolutely stunning work.
This song is pure pain but is simultaneously my comfort song

I know! I was not expecting to cry...
Lauren Adcock I don't think it'd be as affecting if someone else sang it. Her voice is so ethereal and pained and beautiful.
@@ladyhaymaker1384 IF you havnt already, listen to the version with Noah gundersen. They do that part together and just wow..

Freaking amazing. Phoebe's voice kills me everytime.
This young lady is a force
Chorus lead-in has the same vocal harmony as Sufjan's John Wayne Gacy Jr.
Well played.
Damn. Nice catch👌✨
oh FUCK man that song destroys me
Maybe that’s why I love this song so much omfg

I’ve been listening to the album nonstop, AND NOW A MUSIC VIDEO 💛
killer is one of my favorites and Im so glad I found her thanks to deezer
Went to see The National and Cat Power in Philly and fell in love with Phoebe. Cat was wonderful.
Her voice makes me come to terms with feelings of sadness
So strange to see Phoebe not dressed head to toe in black
The director was black enough.

Yea...
Same situation for me, all thats in your way is time and you just have to bear through it all until you find it.
Rooting for ya.
This song is just unbelievably good.
I remember reviewing the original version of this song from an EP of the same name back in 2014- and for me- that one will always be my favorite.
Love this song, keep them coming
John Doe from *X* on harmonies, a legend for decades now. Phoebe's already a legend at 24.
Is that who it is? That's awesome. X is legendary, so that shows how much respect she has.
Really. Thank you Johnny for sweatin crevasses in your Fender fretboard. Exene lives too!!!!
Thank you for your music Phoebe. You've made my day so many times and for that I'll be forever grateful. Much love X

Interestingly this song was first released on her EP from 2014 which was called Killer, and is extremely underrated and very cool.
Could you imagine Phoebe and Glen Hansard collaborating?! 😩
her best song, you cant change my mind
