  • Cooking for family and friends is an intrinsic part of the Trinbagonian experience that is an expression of love and care.
Experience the magic of love dhal as Stephanie combines aromatic spices and protein-rich lentils in this delicious and satisfying dish. This love dhal is adapted from her grandmother's dhal recipe as well as her uncle's river dhal recipe that she now cooks for the special people in her life.

I admire how conversational Stefanie’s cooking is… she communicates with her food using all her senses… feeling the fire, eyeballing the salt, smelling the onions and tasting the pepper by colour… she’s immersive and lovely and the “love dhal” is an expression of her heart and this is divine food! Fatten up the “love dhal” - Helicopter mom yuh dhal! Undefine yuh dhal! Feel yuh dhal! Love yuh dhal! If yuh dhal eh have love in it, I doh want it! Big up you Stefanie! ❣️

I THOROUGHY enjoyed this episode - Stephanie (recognized her immediately from the article Baidawi shared) draws you in and you have to keep watching and listening. She's making one of my favourite dishes in the world - DHAL!!! I will definitely try this, with the dasheen bush - amazing idea! Oh, for the Love of Dhal!

3/10/2024 finally made a dal that’s worthy of sharing. Thank you Stephanie. I also appreciate what you said about recipes. They can limit and prevent one from experimenting by adding more spices etc.

This is the calmest chaotic cooking that I have ever seen. What is love if not that? :) I'm making this tonight! Thanks eh!

Wonderful episode, Ms Ramlogan really cooks with her heart. This was like a cross between a callaloo and my mother's dhal, and I am here for it! Will definitely be trying this.

I enjoyed this segment as I do with Chrysal. Cooking is an art and when people especially are removed from the country of their culture's origin, they will strive to hold on to the authenticity of their food for instance. It's worldwide, not just the Caribbean. We pass on and try to hold on to the flavors, the methods, the secrets...in spite of colonization that tried to destroy the cultures as we know it. As a Black American, I learned to make dahl the Trini way and the Guayanes way and appreciate both due to their own authentic way.

I totally agree with when she said how we cook without looking at a book. We "feel our food". That is how "us" Trinis and by extension Caribbean people cook with love. Taste as you go along. Add a little bit of this ....a little of that. The ingredients won't be the same everytime so we "tweek as the pot bubbles". - Tanya😊
