I'm reading their book right now. It's really good! So many things from childhood really affect us.
When I try to “listen and find out more” I find that people get very defensive and I can’t get to the bottom of the issue. It makes communication impossible.
This book was recommended to me though I'm working on personal issues, not a dating or marriage relationship I'm starting to see why.
What if you don't recall any specific memories of being "comforted" but you didn't grow up feeling "unloved" ?
My marriage just ended in divorce. I was a victim of horrible childhood abuse and I married a controller. I’m healing my own wounds so I’m not attracted to the controller or any negative type of person. The controlling husband is incredibly abusive and had a sex addiction.
