    What a coincidence! I just had to go to the ER for a fibrin sheath this same day. How crazy!!! Luckily, the hospital in my town has a cancer center, so they are very familiar with ports. They actually had someone in the ER that worked closely with ports and was able to do the contrast dye test right there. I am also familiar with fibrin sheaths as I used to get them on PICC lines, so I was 99% sure that's what the problem was - this is the first one that I've had on my port, though. I'm also super thankful for the team in the ER. They were so kind and understood how well I knew my port/body.
    As for the port aspirating sometimes and not other time... if you are using heparin, that could be breaking up the clot enough that you are getting a return sometimes. It sounds like that if you do have a fibrin sheath that it's not very bad yet and it should be very easy to clear. I don't have any experience with the other possible thing it could be. Whatever it is, I hope it's an easy fix (if it is a fibrin sheath, it should be - we just put TPA through the port and all my old trouble PICCs and they were just like new)! Sending positive vibes!

  • @annaspicer-girlwithoutguts6890

    If he felt like it was the fibrous sheath why didn't he go on push CathFlo. What it does is break up/dissolve fibrous tissue and small clots that get in the way when trying to pull back for blood return. It generally takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to work. The small clots are nothing to worry about. I have had mine for 4 years, (reason, no vascular access), it flushed really good but had stopped get blood return. Finally, at the oncologist for lab work, they pushed CathFlo into my port, and was working great again. Don't get discouraged, it happens to everyone! As long as it is flushing good, you are in good shape.

    I went through the exact same thing with my port, I would have told you exactly what the doctor said to you. i also panicked a bit and went to the ER and was told the same thing- if it flushes there is no clot and you are fine to keep infusing. I ended up not doing the port study first- and the doc put into homecare for cathflo to break down the fibrin sheath, if it didnt work we were going to do the study but it worked and i didnt even have to leave me house to get it fixed. I wish you luck, I hope it goes smoothly for you!

    Don’t get down about your port Hun. I have had the same problem with my port and found out it was due to my hEDS. If I have slightly dislocated or a subluxation of my should or a rib it does this too. They will figure it out and if it is a sheath, they can put meds through to try to dissolve it.

    Hello Jaquie, I was wondering how your training process was when you first were training Harlow. Did you do that training all by yourself or did you have help from a trainer? I plan to get a service dog myself in the future. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I make this big decision. I've been looking at some of the organizations near me and I'm just so worried I will get scammed. Like you I have POTS and mast cell, I would need an alert dog. I would like to do the training on my own, but I'm concerned and curious how I would train my dog to alert. If you have already made a video about this would you please direct to it. If not would you mind sharing your experience? Thanks!

Went in meds,didn’t work. Went back to the doctor and they said I am backed out and need to do clean outs. I have done 4 cleanouts. I just wish I could have a feeding tube so I would have as much pain. I hope the doctors would give me something that helped me.

    Ahh port problems! I had what was probably a fibrin sheath too (if not the vascular wall thing) after about 6 months of my port working perfectly. Same issue where it would flush but wouldn’t draw back. I was taught to flush saline and heparin in short bursts so it makes some sort of vortex effect, and I noticed that after the one time I decided to be more forceful with those bursts, it started working fine again so I’m guessing that helped dislodge the fibrin sheath.

    I hate that you're having port problems : / that's very scary, I know how much you rely on it.
    I've always wondered-- since your port always has to be accessed, has getting a PICC line ever been an option for you? I am not an expert by any means, and I hope I'm not overstepping when I say this, that is definitely not my intention. From my research and things I would think that a PICC may be more practical for your purposes because you wouldn't have to access and de-access every week. Please tell me if I have offended you or have overstepped my bounds; that is definitely not my intention and I'm truly sorry if I have.
    I hope your J tube pain gets more manageable soon! I hate that you're still recovering. EDS is the worst!

    • @allie4680
      @allie4680 Před 6 lety +3

      @samiamisme Před 6 lety +1

      AJ 2700 ....I had heard that you get a picc first, then when your body stops tolerating it, then you get a port line. Obviously, it's not a set in stone thing. I've always thought that for saline infusions etc, the port line is bigger, to handle the fluids more? I have no clue, just what I thought I heard. Great questions. Will head over and watch that video that you referenced. Thx
