    I am from England and I have a long history of heart problems, I have just had a Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Test at my local hospital. The appointment letter I received told me to stop eating and drinking 9 hours before the test. This advice conflicts with Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Tests seen 0n CZcams. I am a type 1 diabetic and I had a hypo during the test, which was rather scary. I am rather concerned at the lack of information given before my test. I have had three heart attacks over the years and I am exhausted all the time, I also can not walk very far as this exhausts me also. Thank you for the very interesting video.

    I know this video is from 2013 and maybe the pre-test instructions have changed but my husband is having a Lexiscan MPI test next week and he was only told to withhold caffeine for 12 hours before the test not 24 hours like it says here.

      I have mine tomorrow, and it also says no caffeine for 12 hours

      @@donor4053 Best of luck to you! Hope you get good results! My husband passed the test with flying colors thankfully eventhough he has Atrial Fibrillation which is the reason he had the test.

      I had this same test about 2 months ago. Didn't have the lexiscam medication though as I was able to walk the treadmill. I have Afib too which is why my doctor ordered it. It was an easy test although lasted a while! I had to ditch the coffee and my beta blocker in order to take this test!

    • @stairwaygoddess
      @stairwaygoddess Před 10 měsíci +1

      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 was it difficult to do without caffeine and the beta blocker? Do they let you drink anything at all during the test?

    • @gloriamaryhaywood2217
      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 Před 10 měsíci

      @@stairwaygoddess Yes. You are encouraged to drink plenty of water in order to flush out the radio-active dye you get injected with! After the resting heart rate part of the test you are offered a light snack and some juice! Then when they call you in the room to do the exercise part you are fitted with electrodes and your blood pressure is taken. I had to wait a few minutes before I was allowed to start walking on the tread mill because my blood pressure was a bit too high. I had skipped taking my beta blocker which is what they told me to do. But it also was what controls my blood pressure as well as my heart rate! Anyways, after about 10 minutes my pressure dropped and I was able to start walking on the treadmill!😉 If my pressure hadn't dropped they were going to give me medication to bring it down enough to do the treadmill part of the test!
      Like I said, it was an easy procedure. But it is time-consuming as quite a few people are also being tested at the same time and there's only a couple of scanning machines available, so they space you out from scan to scan!😜 You shouldn't have any problem at All!😊

    • @OSRSstiffy
      @OSRSstiffy Před rokem

      this test isn't like ecg, it shows blood flow, not electric graph, btw the cause may come from either and affect the other so treatment will be according to the cause not the effect.
      so for better diagnose both are required for certain problems

    • @OSRSstiffy
      @OSRSstiffy Před rokem

      well the test is focused on the chest area, so i dont think it will, also if im not mistaken the radioactive tracer is specifically absorbed by the heart muscle tissue

      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 Před 9 měsíci

    • @OSRSstiffy
      @OSRSstiffy Před 9 měsíci

      @@gloriamaryhaywood2217 yes, as im abit more experienced then i was 10 moths ago, usually diaphragms hernias show up, and we have to take retake the images. also honestly anything with high metabolism rate will absorb larger amounts of the tracer unless its tied into a complex like PYP+Tc99-mibi for the MUGA test

      @jenniferdang8784 Před rokem

      Either the stress or rest study can take place first and the other follow. Which goes first depends on the facility and their regulations and preference. Some facility may chose to even complete the study over the course of two days, the amount of radiotracers will be the same. However, most facility complete a myocardial study in one day.

    • @jenniferdang8784
      @jenniferdang8784 Před rokem +1

      No, an X-ray machine will not be able to pick up the wavelengths expended from the radiotracers, most facilities use either SPECT or PET machines.
