- Hiking trails thru meadows of wildflowers, several waterfalls, fishing, camping, and non-motorized water sports, are some of the reasons why Lake Irwin should be on your Colorado bucket list.
Our first stay at Lake Irwin in July of 2014 inspired the creation of this CZcams channel.
In today's video, we share memories from that first visit to Lake Irwin as well as recently recovered video from the summer of 2018 when we made one of several return trips to Lake Irwin.

Wife and I enjoy watching and getting plenty of info from your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do them.
Thanks for watching and commenting! It keeps me motivated to keep it up.
We were there in June, 2018 just before the campground opened. No wildflowers, but it was still beautiful. But we did get to enjoy them last summer, July, 2021. Thanks for sharing this. I love Lake Irwin!
It’s a special place for sure.
What a scary night but rewarding morning! I’ll make sure we go there this summer! Thank you
Thank you probably my most favorite place to visit. Love the wildflowers and trails.
Definitely one of our favorites to visit also.
Glad to be a supporter, I watch your videos to plan our camping.
We appreciate your support!! Another round of videos are coming in July including some from the Redstone and Marble area.
Spotted a blond long hair at 11:03! The fall photos and footage are just amazing. I have only had the luxury of experiencing the changing of color once when I was in junior high, and my parents pulled me out of school for a week to make a trip to the San Juan NF. It was unforgettable! It is so sad that so many of the aspen groves in that area are now getting hit hard with disease.
Love September in Colorado
There’s something strong that prompts someone to return to CB. It’s always like you never left.
What a beautiful lake! Thanks for the info
It is a special place. Thanks for checking out our video!
We drove up here without an RV and it was a very slow, hard on-the-truck drive. Pitted road. I would love to camp up there, but don't want to put our RV through the tumultuous road. The trail that goes up from Lake Irwin area I think is the best hike I've ever done in CO.
Reminder set. Can't wait
I LOVED this video you guys did a great job with it, great info, excellent video!!!!
Thank you!
Well done video on such a beautiful campground area
Thank you!
Wow that looks beautiful up there. I love the wildflowers. I need to check that out
Colorado Martini It is a special place.
I am happy to find your channel with so many Colorado campground videos and reviews. I like to hike and photograph and am thinking about spending roughly 6 weeks camping in southwest Colorado in the summer of 2022 or 23. I would be driving from North Carolina, pulling a small teardrop camper and bringing my dog. My preference would be to be there for wildflower season and avoid bitterly cold weather, so I'd be there roughly mid July through most of August. I would like to find about 5 or 6 campgrounds that would allow me to drop the trailer and hike in the areas of Crested Butte, Silverton, Lake City, Ouray and possibly Telluride. I have good hiking guides on all of those areas. I'd like to stay 7 to 10 days at each campground to allow me to really see each area while keeping down the number of days devoted to moving to a new campground, particular given that I might have to visit multiple campgrounds to find an available campsite when I don't have a reservation. I'm thinking Ridgway State Park to cover Ouray and Lake Irwin Campground for Crested Butte. The town campground in Telluride is another possibility. I'll look through your videos to try to find multiple camping options for the other areas.
My concern is that I probably won't be able to make advance reservations for all of the campgrounds and have my trip nailed down in advance as much as I'd like to. My question is whether or not you think it will be a big problem for me to get spots in some of the campgrounds that are first come first served if I have a backup option or two each time I relocate. I know Colorado campgrounds are very crowded during the summer. Do you think getting stuck without a campsite is a big risk, and do you have any tips on the best days of the week and times of day to try to get a spot in the first come first served campgrounds?
Biggest recommendation I can make is don't look for a campground between 3 pm on Thursday and Sunday evening. Tuesday and Wednesday are the most common days for people to move between campgrounds. Crested Butte is the hardest to find a campsite at, so I'd go with a reservation at Lake Irwin. If you move mid-week, finding a FCFS site won't be impossible. The further away from town you get, the less difficult it is. If your schedule slides around any, July 4th and Labor Day will require a little more effort.

@@CampgroundRecon Thanks so much for the response. I thought Crested Butte would be the toughest place to access so I was thinking I'd try to book Lake Irwin and Ridgway State Park for whenever I could get them, if possible for 10 days each, and work around that with any other reservations I could get or first come first served. I'll definitely keep the trip between July 4 and Labor Day so I don't have to deal with those crowds.
Another great video. I sure am spending a lot of time on your videos! LOL
Glad you like them!
found you from Colorado CZcamsr page sorry I'm late to subscribe 😊
Never too late. Welcome!
Beautiful! Shadow again @ 8:53?
Yes!
Great channel! What are the closest campsites to the water, and approximately how far are they from the water? Thank you!
2, 6, 8 are some of the closest to Lake Irwin. 80 - 150 ft depending on which site.
Song name? Great videos and very informative!
I forget which songs we used. They were all in the CZcams library.
WERE ALL THE SPOTS FULL WHEN YOU WERE THERE? THX!
PLAN ON GOING MID AUGUST. THX AGAIN
They weren't all full when we have been there. You can make reservations on recreation.gov
If you show up in the middle of the week, you have a chance of getting a first come first serve site.
Plenty of dispersed camping further down the road on Kebler Pass if you need a backup plan. Around Lost Lake. (We'll have a published video of this area in 3-4 weeks)
I was just looking at the website of Lake Irwin Campground and it will be closed for remodeling for all of the 2022 season.
Ugh! They should have done that before they closed a bunch of dispersed camping in the area. Lost Lake is nice but is FCFS. Lots of dispersed camping along the road there. Oh Be Joyful is a BLM campground outside of Crested Butte (Video coming in Jan/Feb)
@@CampgroundRecon I was looking at that one as the other option near Crested Butte. But I probably won't make the trip until summer 2023 when Lake Irwin should be reopened.
They pushed the remodeling back to 2023 so they are now open for 2022.
@@stompgod ur clutch for knowing that
Just looked it up and it will be closed for all of 2022 :(
Yep. It will be good to have some updates on this one.
