  • The dive watch is unfamiliar to neither Oris nor watchmaking in general, a staple of the industry since the 1950s and a favourite of buyers today. But despite a number of weird and wonderful dive watches that have come and gone over the years, there really are only so many ways to skin a cat. The Oris ProDiver Date, however, is one of the more unusual ways.

    The Oris ProDiver 1000 M is one of the most beautiful dive watch in the world. I think it is more beautiful then the Rolex Submariner and the Omega Seamaster. Oris watches are also very affordable.

    @tassostzanos2839 Před 4 lety +18

    Great presentation as always, just one point that I would like to mention at the usage of the bezel: it is not meant to allow the diver measure underwater the time left to breathe from the tank, but to determine the max depth time that defines the dive stops to prevent decompression sickness. Preventing the bezel to accidentally rotate clockwise is vital for the diver’s life but again not for the air availability as it depends on a number of factors, like depth, workload, stress, cold, and personal air consumption

    • @tassostzanos2839
      @tassostzanos2839 Před 4 lety +4

      One more detail is the markings on the bezels: usually for most dive watches it is one minute up to 15 minutes. The reasons are that the early diving decompression tables (before diving computers came into life) were exhibiting time intervals of 5 minutes for the reference depths, whilst the decompression stops were up to 12 minutes in one minute increments. This is applying to all non-professionals watches

    • @tassostzanos2839
      @tassostzanos2839 Před 4 lety +3

      Professional watches like this are intended to use in the diving habitants and the bells. Never used by the commercial divers during their shift. It is the bellman that is of need of the watch having to measure several vital elements of his two divers working at the shift. For this reason, in such watches we find the one minute increments on the bezel and the helium escape valve, as the habitant and the bell are compressed with Heliox (He+O2) that is used as their breathing gas of the 28 days séjour of the divers.

And if not, it‘s still not a 20k-watch and you won‘t barely notice it with your pure eyes. Big fan of Oris at this pricepoint! If you want „perfection“ put at least 15k down and get a ALS. 😉😄

In the case of the watch reviewed here, it can't even match them in finishing. The only one I've never had any problems out of is my Ball Master Engineer II Skin Diver. Being the owner of an Oris Pro Diver chronograph and regular diver, I find the watch useless underwater and not suited to this harsh environment. The rubber protector on the bezel is weak and mine ripped early in my ownership. My watch broke down 5 weeks after purchase and then had to wait three months for Oris Australia for a part before it could be repaired. In 6 years it's had three visits to Oris for repair / service. I own two late model Oris watches and won't be buying a third. Oris Australia can't even polish the case and band because it's titanium. I'd hate to think how much it would cost to replace the rubber bezel protector. The diving aspect of this watch is just a wank. All divers wear computers on their wrists today, not a watch which is why I also own two Suunto dive watches, they're fit for purpose. This watch is a pretty ornament on your wrist.

    Thanks to Watchfinders macro shots, you can really guess the price of a watch! Personally I have a simple Vostok Amphibian in my collection, equipped with a bezel covering 20min in red and 40min in blue (so, technically it‘s not a pepsi). I use it often to time phone calls, presentations and preparing time. Simply turning the bezel 0 to when the event starts and stay within the „red zone“ to keep it short. Or turn 0 to the point where something should end (and make sure it comes to an end as soon the minute hand enters the red zone).

    Thanx for an excellent channel! I’ve had my Citizen Aqualand Promaster since the early 90’s, and used it well. Worn it out, actually. So now I will buy it again. This legend is still in production. The JP2000-08E is my choise. I would LOVE to see a video about this watch, on your capable channel. Best regards from, Oslo, Stein.

    very cool mechanism - be good on a smaller watch. Hard to believe on a watch 49mm sized the finishing is so slapdash. Expect better tbh

    I realize it's meant to be a tool, but I just buy watches, including divers, because I like them. I couldn't buy this watch with the level of finish I saw on the bezel and hands. I think I've seen closeups of other Oris watches and the finish was a lot better IIRC.

    Wonderful video as usual but I, personally, would not be happy with a watch with such poor finishing, particularly on the hands. but then for £1650.00 RRP perhaps its not that bad at all.

    • @mickeylickey123

      Poor finishing under the macro for sure. Bezel numbers, lines and holes had like burrs on them. I dont think I'd buy one but I kinda got OCD a little bit.

    No watch stands the discerning scrutiny of super macro shots; but regarding comments regarding QC, dirt, burrs, etc..this is clearly a used watch. I would hold judgement til I was holding a brand new model out-of-the-box. So, while Oris isn't considered a top tier manufacturer, I agree that in general it is a great watch company.
