    🔥 Do you ride with an air or a coil fork? 🔥

    Well.. At last I've see a video with someone telling me in simple words which is the way to go with your front forks on a E-bike/ mountain bike, I already adjusted my forks by letting out some air & was ok with how it handled, but now that I know that I've done the right thing I'm happy .Thanks again for the east way you explain things.🙂👍

    It's too bad they don't really make any high-end coil Forks anymore. A high-end Air Force versus a high-end coil Fork, very debatable which one is better.

      Some buy a regular air fork and install coil conversion from aftermarket brands. Like Vorsprung dmashpot, I had one myself had fox 36 with it. But Push Industries, Avalanche also offer coil conversions.

      @Coerced Před rokem +1

      Marzocchi bomber Z1 coil, Ohlins 36 coil, Formula Selva C, Cane Creek helm coil, MRP ribbon, quite a few downhill forks, there's the Vorsprung or Push conversion kits as well. Plenty of options!

    Those adjustments are not at all the main difference between air and coil. LOTS of coil forks have those adjustments. You dont mention the difference between ride characteristics between the two types of springs, which are the actual main difference

    Problem I am having with selecting an air fork is I am limited to a strait steer tube and I am a 235lb bodybuilder. The "ONLY" shock I found was one from Fox and its $1K for a 100mm travel 32mm XC air fork but has air setting for my specific body weight and beyond. BUT back ordered till god knows when maybe years from now. There is one at my bike shop from Rockshoks I think its a recon. Same specs (nearly) and its 1/4 the price. But on the air chart on the shock it just says put "x' amount of air for a 200lb + rider. Would this shock work for my body weight? Or will I destroy it because I am to heavy?
    The Suntor XC spring shock I have now feels like a pogo stick.

    • @YourFavoriteCyclist
      @YourFavoriteCyclist  Před 3 lety +6

      Great question! I myself am around the same weight and on my mtb I have the rockshox recon silver. The air chart on the side is more suggestions for where to set the pressure at versus being a set in stone rating. I actually run my fork at less than the air chart says most of the time, I feel it gives a better ride for the type of riding I do.
      As for destroying it, good luck with doing that. I've ridden all mountain downhill trails, raced 24 hour races, packed the whole fork crown full of mud and more and it's still kicking! Could it use some new seals after 6 years of riding, sure but so would any other fork.
      The fox fork just had more bells and whistles to it along with slightly larger stanchions, but you'll be perfectly fine going for the rockshox especially as an upgrade to a suntour coil fork.

      Just wait till you graduate jr high and get a car instead of mtb forks

      I found this searching around, its pretty ghetto looking so I wouldn't recommend it. www.instructables.com/Improve-your-bicycle-fork-suspension/
      I would probably just look for a new air fork and swap the forks out.

  • @Mylity66
    @Mylity66 Před 3 lety +6

    I've always been resistant to switch to air. My problem is not the technology, it is better in pretty much every way except for the fact that a coil is steel, and "steel is real". for a coil to fail you really have to do so much damage to the fork that it won't be a fork anymore at that point. With air, the pressure chamber has failure points that can trigger when a consumable part just... Rots. Rubber doesn't last that long, and while spring coils also use rubber seals, they will continue to work without them, an air fork will just splat down. Not to mention that it makes maintenance a pain.
    So I guess that what I meant to say is, seeing how the price for these types of forks has dropped so much, I would really like for someone to convince me that these preconceptions I have about them are overblown or misguided.
    Do I need to buy the super special o-rings and rubber dust boots/dust wipers from the manufacturer at extortionate rates? Or can I just go to the hardware store and get o-rings and they work just fine? Can I improvise a dust seal using foame like I used to do on my old oil/spring fork?
    This is important to me because I believe in future proofing. If I see a product I know I can't mantain or fix when it brakes, it's just not very appealing to me. Will I be able to pick up one of these air forks in 30 years time and overhaul them back into 80%-90% of their original performance without issue like I do with seized, rusted over MTB coil forks from the early 90s now?

    • @YourFavoriteCyclist
      @YourFavoriteCyclist  Před 2 lety +4

      If you stick with a nicer quality air fork from a reputable manufacturer you should be able to repair it for many years to come.

    Hi, sorry i'm a newbie . i got a 30 Silver TK, and its says spring : coil, solo air what does that mean? yes there's schraeder valve, so could it be one stanchion for air and another for coil? can you give me some light, many thanks

    • @YourFavoriteCyclist
      @YourFavoriteCyclist  Před 2 lety +2

      So I did a little looking around and it appears they offer that fork in both air and coil versions. If you have the schrader valve on top you have the air version.

    Hello brother, I ve not got a xct 30 on a cross grx 9 2019, and I was looking for an upgrade, and I found these 2, which are a Suntour Axon 100mm 2017 or a rockshox judy silver tk aolo air 100mm. Can u help me decide which of them is the best?

      I'm a big rockshox guy so thats the way I would lean, however Suntours stuff has gotten slightly better over the years, just depends on the price difference between those two

    How to adjust the preload of the coilfork sir? Plus and minus?

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 Před 2 lety

      Plus adds more preload, so compresses the coil spring.. Keep in mind this has just and small effect, and you need correct spring rate, and adjust the damper to correct rebound damping setting, but cheap junk forks don't have a damper just preload on spring so they rebound crazy fast, no damping so not as stable, but it depend son the spring in the fork and rider weight too, but for proper adjustment you need a damper and correct spring rate, one size fits all does not work.

    Why cycle at western countries that expensive? Even parts are damn expensive, a simple basic bike in your country is like $200 same as our basic bike which cost $60

  • @sluzbazaorganizacijucentra4050

    Every magic goes with slider sleews,uper stantions material quality and spring quality.I rode Axels with air and they are crap and also i rode Mz Bombers with coil and they work like hell.Air infact is mostly for weight reduction or for fat people where coil wont work.

      I don’t think you can convert them. You have to buy a new fork that is made to hold air.
