An important gig in Beatles live history. In their midst of their 1965 North American Tour (where Beatlemania was it’s absolute peak, after just playing Shea Stadium) the band land in Atlanta. This would end up being their only ever show in the city, possibly due to the fact it wasn’t sold out, however the gig would end up being a very memorable one. Having just opened that year, Atlanta Stadium had a far more advanced P.A system, which meant the sound was able to project far more round the stadium. Coupled with this, hired for the supply of the stage sound system for this show was Baker Audio, who clumped together all of their available speakers for this occasion. This totalled to about 500 watts which at the time, was an almost unthinkable amount of power. By 1965, The Beatles had been used to not hearing themselves play (they literally had to play almost deaf for the entire set at Shea Stadium) but with all this combined, they could hear themselves over the tens of thousands of screaming fans. You can tell that they’re relishing in it, and put on a stormer of a gig. Paul even breaks a string on his bass as he’s so excited. Brian Epstein hoped to hire Baker Audio for the next shows, but this was turned down as the head of the company apparently didn’t see much of a future with “four guys with long hair” and thus, it would end up being one of the big “what ifs” of The Beatles live career. One of the highest quality Beatles bootlegs and essentially complete (minus a bit of Dizzy Miss Lizzy) you have a performance which is perhaps the tightest gig they ever played.

Oh this was totally unexpected here haha, but indeed, this is absolutely one their best concerts and it's awesome that it was recorded through the soundboard. You can just tell how much fun the guys are having pointing out how loud the speakers are, I've also always been curious as to how Ringo's drums were recorded because in every photo of this show, I don't see any close mic yet it sounds pretty clean in the mix compared to other soundboards like Houston for example, where it sounds distant and buried. Also it seems like A Hard Day's Night wasn't played on this night for whatever reason, they just skipped over it as it seems, or maybe it's just missing from the recording like that chunk of Dizzy Miss Lizzy.
