Long long ago I learned that it's what you do that matters not who you are. A person who is a net positive on his job is worth keeping. I had a co-worker for a brief time who did not get this. He was continually railing about gays. Being somewhat Autistic and fearless to an unwise degree at that young age (only about 35 about 45 years ago) I finally broke and asked him, "What are you afraid of? Are you afraid that if you walked into a gay bar by mistake none of the gays would make a pass at you?" It did shut him up. The presence of potential witnesses probably saved my life.
One might mention to the Russians who are now claiming Ukraine is degenerate because it suffers gays and the rest to live that Russian anti-gay sentiment cut short the life of one of their most civilized citizens, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Leave it to them to figure out you just called them uncultured.

Any update on the civil unions/marriage law? I know that the president looked at that petition for gay marriage and instructed a civil unions law to be drafted so these folks can also marry. Did it finally go through? I see so many Ukrainians getting married before going off to the front, I bet a lot of LGBTQ people want that like everyone else and they should be able to.
So far, only the draft law has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, which must be voted on by people's deputies. Unfortunately, so far the rights of the LGBTIQ community in my country are not sufficiently protected, but we hope that it will improve in the near future, when the draft law will be voted on. We are actively fighting for it.
