  • KLR650 Vacuum Petcock Manual Conversion Kit 1987-2018 1st Gen and 2nd Gen. Is the vacuum operated portion of your stock petcock giving you trouble? Are you wanting the simplicity of a manual petcock? This block-off kit does away with the vacuum portion of the OEM petcock. It turns your vacuum petcock into a manual one. Installation is as simple as removing the four screws from the back of the petcock, removing the factory rear plate and diaphragm, then installing the new gasket and block-off plate. The block-off plate is laser cut from 6061 aluminum.

    I believe vacuum petcock was designed to prevent fuel from flowing in the event of a accident where you can't stand the bike back up in a timely manor. You CAN get a petcock that also has PRI position in addition to the on/off and reserve. The PRI position is for prime and will bypass the vacuum.
    Not as inexpensive a solution as this kit but you'd get both the safety benefit AND the vacuum bypass option as well.

    I'm glad you made this mod. A classic case of over engineering causing more problems later on down the road. Eric

      To be honest I didn't even know I had a vacuum system on my bike until a few months ago, but yes Eric this is such a simple upgrade that could eliminate failure in the future.

      The reason why the gas tank have it is because 6 gallons of gas is to much pressure to carburetor needle.

    See I didn’t get a notification! I had to physically go to your channel to find this! Was nice talking to you last night buddy. Sounds like a great upgrade. I’m not very mechanically inclined lol 😂.

      Welcome back! haha... I noticed it does that on channels that I do not have the bell notification turned on with... even then sometimes it will not

    The vacuum also shuts off the fuel if the petcock is leaking. If your petcock is leaking - even in the off position - not only are you going to run the risk carburetor overflow but it could also run into your engine and into your engine oil.

    Great video man! I hate bikes that have that vacuum petcock. Not only does it end up not failing, but it's a form of laziness. Riding dirtbikes/quads you know to turn and run the gas out of the carb before your done riding.

    woohoo, my 15 minutes of fame 😁!.. my point was also that no bypass kit needed, plus I can easily share fuel or drain my tank.. Hope it works well for you too! 🤙

    Buy some gasoline resistant sealant from permatex and pull the stuff out and seal it. Permatex 13.99 but I wanted a tube. I like a bunch of gasket sealants in tubes. Two nipples if you need them but there you go. Good vid. It educated me

    So the vacuum is eliminated, but does that not impede flow?

    • @AdventureTomek
      @AdventureTomek  Před 2 lety

      Not at all, it opens flow… make sure to shut it to off at the end of the day.

    Don't use red thread lock as it's permanent, and if you ever have to take it apart, you can break the small bolts. Use the blue thread locker, you will thank me later.....

    Or can it be covered by a plug?

    • @AdventureTomek
      @AdventureTomek  Před 2 měsíci

      The OEM needs a vacuum to have fuel flow.
      Plug=no vacuum

      If you read some of these comments, you will realize there are many in that category of not knowing much. But we all learn stuff from somewhere.
