In this video, I demonstrate the proper method of repairing a leaking fuel tap petcock. Sometimes the seal is bad, sometimes the diaphragm is bad , you just have to take them apart, clean, inspect and repair what's not working right. Very simple process. You don't want fuel leaking on your custom cafe bobber brat chopper thing of a motorcycle or your fuel to not be flowing when on a ride.

4:56 - just as he said "looks good, nothing is leaking" and proceeded to connect the hose, a drop came out! Priceless!
I didnt notice that....I had to go back and look. Thats kinda funny, but I feel bad for this dude. My mom has a better set of tools in her old sewing box.....and she doesnt know what a phillips screwdriver is. Vise grips for a wrench, small straight blade for a phillips (handle taped on), hand crank drill from like 1906.....wow.
I feel bad for people who think this is a serious repair video lmao
I came here for Peacock repair. My peacock is making noise and waking me up.
All fuel taps are basically similar in design. So I was able to fix my brother's electric bike. Now it runs much faster. Thank you
It's important for those using older British bikes to know that the fuel flows the opposite way. This is because they use petrol not gas.
top tip !
LOL
@@johncavar2914 hence, the joke.
Making the shim is pure genius! Didn't like buying a rebuild kit and having it still leak, as it did for my Concours. Also the o-ring sealer. I had not heard of that. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make and post this video and share your knowledge! Thanks again, David
Open end wrenches aren't that expensive. Might get a deal with a phillips screwdriver, and a socket set. Cant wait for the cylinder head removal!
Lol
You know he uses weird stuff as a joke right, I see you're new to his videos haha
No more gas for sure with all that Nickletown o-ring sealer. Great video with detailed instructions. Thanks
I like how thorough you are with your descriptions.
probably went a little light on sealent!!! lol
with Japanese bikes it should be enough since the tolerances are mostly small.
BR H I think your sarcasm radar is a bit off ;)
Bwahahaha !!! 🤣
Is his Flathead that he's using on a Philips screw held together by ductape & a zip tie ? WTF ?? BWAHAHAHA IM DYING !!!🤣🤣😋
Ingenuity shows no boundary.
love how at 4.23 your putting it back together & the bit you made with blzck washer is in background 😉 love your videos!
always make spares when you are pattering shims and gaskets
Thank you for making this video, very helpful. Going to rebuild my cbr1000f fuel tap.
Bad ass rebuild! keep up the awesome videos!
thanks Danny!
I was not expecting you use the plastic...that was fly af for a quick fix...i loved it....lol..i love fixing bikes of any kind but that was cool...
Another awesome video my friend no doubt it will help hundreds of bike owners out there.
You helped solve my problem without having to buy anything thanks a million
4:00 Yeah it is. It's good you respect the importance of using the correct tool for the job.
Thanks so much! Got my petcock to stop leaking! Great video
That was Totally "Bad Ass",,, heading to the Garage to work on My "Petcock",,, Thanks for the Tips...!!!!!
This guy's tools be older then the vintage bike
Great walk through.
The flamshamockery is above average, but I do agree with your decision to go with the manual hand drill for working on precision parts .
Where you at mr. Ichi? My life is incomplete without your weekly guidance.
I'm back open, the ministry of fire and safety cited me for a few violations
Badass rebuild.
Wonderful job on the seal shim :D
This guy is a strong believer of -using the right tool for the job- lol still a usefull video
very helpful ..thanks
Brilliant solution !!!
Thank you!
Cool, thanks man
Nice idea!
we don't all have a pro tool kit tho😁
It's probably a bad-ass toolkit, hard to find.
Excellent video
well funny!! im a big ichiban fan already!!!
:D thanks for watching Chris !
Hell yeah! Way to go. What? My bike's next?😊
man, i love your humor so much. but your tutorial process is excellent. all joking aside... i wish you provided proper tutorials. Im sure this comment isn't very badass, but thats how I feel.
nobody would watch
You are right, people love to watch unique things.......
your sir are veru amusing! you have gained my subscription hahaha
thank you so much for watching koko !
That is an awesome video. I have learned a whole lot thanks for sharing man. I came over from Lil Doggy's video post.
Lil Doggy is bad ass !
He sure is.
thank you for the badass awesome sticker ! I mailed you some Ichiban stickiness
I am looking forward to receiving you sticker I'll check the mail this weekend and hope to see it there have an awesome day I am glad you liked the sticker.
sweet. my vulcan tank leaks right at the valve switch. I'll have to make a little shim to throw in there and see if that fixes the leak problem.
This is what’s wrong with my cycle ty great video
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, but it frustrates me when I see people using the wrong tool for the job. Vice clamps instead of a spanner? Ancient little flat head screwdriver instead of a cross head? Wouldn't let you near my bike.
You don't sh*t. Ichiban Moto is top motorcycle repair specialist in the world.
Guy cant even find his 14 mill socket to remove his tank lol😂😂😂
Thanks ichi...I will follow your instructions to the letter! haha...Matt.
Thats geniuss!!!
Yaaaas totally totally BADD ASSSSS am luvin it
I like the packer idea however if the packer is not fuel resistant plastic it will dissolve and head for the carb? Thanks Rich
You are so badass pal 😂
Did you have any issues with that plastic shim breaking or dissolving because of constant exposure to gas? It seems like a good idea, but while watching the video I was thinking that the plastic likely wouldn't last too long in gas.
it is ok if made from cross linked PE (gas tanks are made from)
Nice dude this is my exact problem i am going to make the shim just like that
Thank you Sir 🙏🙏🙏🙏
dude u r so badass
I noticed you do a lot of work on Japanese bikes which brings up my question - where can I get a pair of metric vice grips? I have an SAE set, right and left handed, but they booger up the flats on metric bolts.
check ebayjapanhey ?? I find them at tool jumbles
Hi,
You didn't mention you made a spare shim, as evident at 4:23 in the top, left hand corner of the video. Bad-ass!!!
shop secret- whenever you need to pattern a shim, a gasket or etc. make extra copies and sets to have on hand
My uncle told me, the best way to fix fuel system leaks was to mix epoxy 87% and fuel 13% in your tank and run it through the entire system until the engine sputters, then kill the engine and let it completely cool for 24 hours. Have you ever used this method Mr. Ichi ?
Hahahaha
Can you tell me the name of that sealer you use on the diaphragm?
Locking pliers on the fuel pipe, I find this a quick fix if the bike is running a little rich.
if you turn the little knob, it adjusts your fuel mixture
I'm not sure what good the vise grips are doing pinching the hose if the leak is before the
Vice grips... 🤔
I am not sure if you were being serious or not?
Does anyone know where I can get a gasket that goes between the black plates of that diaphragm? I’m taking about the whitish looking square gasket. All these rebuild kits only come with the diaphragm, not the gasket, and the gasket I have is currently the issue because it’s worn out and has a hole where fuels clearly squirting out of!
Can l run my 1986 Honda motorcycle on the main tank and bypass the second one
badass
You forgot to upgrade the o ring around the tap (don't Nickel Town Customs have that one in stock?) As ever workshop masterclass Mr Ichy👍🏻😎
what color tube does that come in?
My switch is also leaking on the petcock, as soon as I turned it to Off, otherwise res and on were 4:00 fine , as is is there's not gas in the tank and the guy who sold me it tried to start it so now it makes sense why it would do anything
the screwdriver and scissor actually worked this time!
always
I think we are missing a step. Are you supposed to leave that big glob of N.T.C. O-ring sealer on there? Or do we do something else to it?
You just need to use a standard metric o-ring sealant shaping tool to sort that out
arcadeuk Ah, I see. Thanks for the help. Standard size is what again? I haven't used a sealant shaping tool before.
The standard Metric one works better than standard.
Is that a standard or metric screwdriver?
it's J.I.S.
My fuel petcock only leaks 3 or 4 big drops of fuel from in between the layers , i have a 2004 transalp xl650v. While running no leaks at all, it is a vaccuum operated petcock aswell
Badass .
It's important to say what kind of plastic to use as a shim. Plastic from a milk jug melts in gas. I'm not sure what plastics do not but I know they exist. To be safe I used gasket material. Otherwise great video and very helpful.
is the adjustable wrench metric or imperial? Can a left-handed person do this job?
great video - should be in the Cannes film festival.
metric. if a left handed person stands on the other side and uses a mirror, it can be done
+Ichiban Moto Wow, you really know your stuff!😂
Pretty Cool thank you ...EZ.
Can I use that shim to stop water leakage as well?
i make shims for leaky water taps too
Ichiban Moto That's fantastic..... God bless.
Subscribed to you !
why thank you Matt ! welcome in :D
hehehe...!!
How i solve honda jade 250cc motorcycle fuel key leaking problem.
Can I use the o-ring sealant to seal the diaphragms? If so, should I double the amount?
give it a try and let us know. I use diaphragm grade sealant
+Ichiban Moto Didn't work. Will have to buy diaphragm grade.
You put a large amount of O ring sealant on the diaphragm, commentary stopped, video skipped the closing of the diaphragm, the important detail skipped.?
don't forget to put the diaphragm spring back in
He's not actually teaching anything, he's just a moron who thinks he's funny.
he might fail to do that step. Obviously within such a large blob like that no fuel could run through the petcock anymore.
Where can I get a new one
u have a shop
I watched as far as vice grips were used to remove the bolt securing the fuel tank, vice grips ffs!
What about a Rickman montesa 1974?? It's fine until you turn the knob halfway before leaking at the top. Anyone know how to fix this??
Did this work?
Was the Tank empty? If not, why didn't fuel start leaking out of the petcock when you removed the hose? I see it's in the ON position. Trying to educate myself before I attempt this on my DR
It's a vacuum operated petcock, won't flow unless bike is on.
Every thing ok over there at Ichiban Moto...?
I was cited by County Health and Safety for OSHA violations. They are coming back with the Fire Marshall next week to ensure everything is in compliance so I can reopen the shop. I will do a video on what I had to sort out over the last several weeks.
I knew something was wrong... I can't go more then 3 weeks without my fix of Ichiban Moto ....Even my wife starting asking "What's wrong honey" my only response was "I Miss My Ichiban Moto Uploads...." LOL love what you do and love how you do it ... When I figure out what to do for Channel decals ...I will def. Blast some towards Highland Park... Good luck with Fire marshall Bill...(standing By for uploads)
Well, I didn't untighten my clamp enough and when I pulled the hose off the nib of the petcock came out of the tube
Between 4:54 - 4:56 did a drop of fuel appearat end of tap or was it an optical illusion. BAAAD ASSS.
looks like a reflection off of something
Plumberman Jones looks like it lol
That's only a moisture buildup...........
please do how to rebuild a monoshock
oh, yes! i need to find one of those
+Ichiban Moto the shipping price is way to high from here. i have a monoshock to rebuild. anyway. is there monoshocks that is not possible to rebuild ?
Some are rebuild-able and some are not. Just like standard shocks, it depends on the brand and model . I will include how to identity whether a shock is even rebuild-able in my future shock rebuilding video.
+Ichiban Moto thanks a lot man
So I was totally watching legit up until the o-ring sealant. Then I saw the uploaded.. got me like 3 times this week alone. Smh.
It's so bad ass, that 5 out of 5 equals 6!
that made my brain hurt
like it bad asssss
I do not have petcock on my motorcycle I have petcat, is procedure the same?
might have to take an xray first
I bought an Ichiban T-shirt for a friend of mine but he doesn't know how to put it on. Any chance of a video for him? The T-shirt didn't come with instructions.
must be the metric zipper
+icibahnmoto hey i was wondering if i can send you my dual keihin carbs for a rebuild .i dont know anything bout them..would that b ok?
of course
Bad ass
Where are you located bro
north of chicago in Illinois
Don't forget to fill the valve chamber up with Rtv sealer to make sure no fuel can ever leak.
Seriously though, Why didn't you drop $10 on a petcock rebuild kit that has a new diaphragm o-ring and seals?
what the hell was that o-ring sealer stuff? is it like a grease? and any excess has to go right into the carbs with the gas as soon as the diaphram opens so why use so much instead of just enough to coat the o-ring? mine has corrosion on the o-ring seat and isn't sealing so I need a permanent fix that doesn't wash off like grease
it's sealer. not grease
well if its sealer then how isn't it gluing everything together? all the sealers I know of get firm and stick to something when they dry. if you fill the cavity as you did, it wouldn't (or shouldn't) still allow the diaphragm to work after it hardens up
. it sets up properly. like an o-ring
Anyone know if the petcock can make the overflow leek new carb on still leaking
what bike are you talking about? if the petcock has a vacuum diaphragm valve designed to only flow when the engine is running or on prime, yet passes fuel all the time, it's bad. if it is just an on/off/res style it could pass fuel in the off position if it's leaking . it's totally possible gas could make it's way from a failed petcock and then on through the needle valve in a carb and end up dripping out the overflow over time.
@@IchibanMoto yes it’s a regular one on/off/res
Is a petcock easy to change as I’ have done the carb and new fuel lines
@@IchibanMoto the leaking is not all the time just a dribble each time when I leave it over night a lot more would come out but it’s really not a lot at all also the fuel chage dosnt read how much fuel is in the bike as it should
@@jackanthonypayne9144 make and model please, it will help to know
This has to be a wind up??
I paid allot of money to replace my petcock to leak in my oil. Now need oil change and repair the petcock I had someone else fix. Is it the petcock or something else? It leaks at petcock sometimes
New petcock too
Oh I am a woman that is mechanically inclined on cars and trucks!
I guess Nickel Town Customs has all the right parts for the Master.
There were six Ichibanmoto stickers!
There were 5 out 5
I think I’ll spend eight dollars for a new one. Instead of robbing my grandmothers Tupperware for something that would probably last four months. Poor dude probably paid you a hundred bucks for you to do some cheap shit like that.
For real.. not only that. If that plastic melts from fuel or that o ring sealant crap clogs up the carb. You just created more work for yourself. Think I'll just buy a dam new one. Bad ass. 😆
Why take the tank off, the petcock is only held on with two screws…🤷♂️
