  • At the request of a few viewers, here is a little run down of some of the lures I have been using for recent videos. I also manage a few chublets and give an update on the allotment.

Nice vid Mr Budget, thank you. A big hello to all the tiny lure fans out there. An advantage of the fine wire hooks is that they open up and pull from snags easily, might ruin the hook but cuts out the risk of snapping off any line in the water! Great for tiny fish but I scale up if more than one sizeable fish turn up.

I always thought most jigheads have overly thick wire hooks. The trebles i'd use for a 30lb pike are easier to bend out than the hook on a 1#0 jig head used for a 6oz perch.

@@RustyShackleford66 I have seen jigs with wire like re-bar! Many of the common "cheap European" jigs seem to have the softest wire even when quite thick (best avoided or used "carefully?" And usually oversize for their strength) I find the best are usually the expensive Japanese ones. You can find them in a variety of gauges with a variety of differing stiffnesses. Nice when I can find, and afford them. Tight lines.

Great video. I always use weedless hooks on the canal. Not because of the weed, but because they're very resistant to hooking bags of dog mess and scrap metal 😂. You're right about confidence... there's absolutely no reason why I wouldn't catch on those small trout magnets, but I've never developed a confidence & consequently don't have much joy with them.

Hey mate, I'm heading to London for work next week and was wondering if you had any recommendations for a fly fishing guide service or easy access water for trout within an hour of London? Thank yah

Confidence in lures is weird! I agree you need it but where does it come from? A bad day on a good lure can lose you confidence in perfectly decent lures. So they stay in my bag.
I have to remember to keep trying all sorts and going back to lures I have previously lost confidence in. They may come good. Or not 😂

It certainly is weird. Also, quite a few times i have been doing really well on a particular lure so i'll buy quite a few of them. Then i suddently I can't catch a cold on them.
