Still rocking that intro that I so distinctively remember from that video from 2014, Great review!

I have no intention of buying an ODroid, this was still one of the most awesome videos ever. I very much enjoyed the part where the faster processor ran the operations faster. It has been speculated that faster data processors do in fact process data faster. Great to see it play out in the real world.
haaha
All joking aside, it is cool how small and fast our computers have become. I bought the VIM4 a few months back and I was surprised it could run like 5 Docker containers just fine and stayed under 50 degrees with a nice cooling setup.
Thanks for keeping us up to date with all the newest products
Wouldn't be Sunday morning in the U.S. without another great video from EC! Thanks , Chris! 👍
Thanks for maintaining the stability of the space-time continuum!
I always feel that is important.
Thanks for the thorough review of this board. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Thank you for another great video. I'm very glad you pointed out that support for these is on the increase!
I'm growing to like these boards since watching your videos I might consider this to be my next PC, it's nice to have options. 😄

A great indepth review there Christopher, seems a very capable board. A tad expensive for what you get (and don't get) but still, it adds to the every growing SBC pool , which is not a bad thing.
Thank you again for your work Christopher..... you are required viewing...
Thanks for another well-rounded SBC review Chris. Cheers!
Great interesting and informative video as usual, I'm already looking forward to your next work on Sunday. Thanks for all your hard work and time.
Since it has a heatsink on the bottom, it is nice that a case top comes with it. Looking forward to your next video!
Keep up the great work you are doing EC, I really enjoy watching your quality videos.

Greetings from near Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Another super video -- thank you for all your hard work. Prof Barnatt's influence here 'across the pond' is perhaps more than one might think. For example, all we have to say to a hard-to-open jar of something is, "Open up you swine!" Magically, the lid seems to almost unscrew itself. It works! So .... there we are. :)
I am predicting you will have a million subscribers by 2022. That will be an impressive achievement that few if any smart-people can lay claim to.

Looks interesting! Good morning from Canada Chris
Another great Sunday video for my boring afternoon
Im extremely tempted to try to get my hands on one of these. Ive been attempting for a long time to use an SBC as a personal travel computer as I travel for work and have to carry a company laptop. Compared to a rasberry pi, it almost seems like a no brainer. Then i force myself to remember: no built in wifi
Nice presentation, Chris.
Greetings! Another relevant presentation in the happy world of SBC: thank you very much! You will notice the full form of our favourite YT teacher, with lines that make Monty Python members green jealous!
In closing: DietPi is a constant source of joy and digital satisfaction: to be tested on your computer as a matter of urgency!
I really like it that mini-computers such as these have so many i/o ports and connectors.
I like it that you call it a mini-computer.
Historically mini-computers were the size of a cupboard (like the DEC PDP series) while micro computers are plate sized (like the Spectrum). So SBCs should be "nano computers".
Don't know what i/o do
I love that kind of video thanks you to make them and hope you had a nice week Christopher stay safe Miguel.
Thanks, you too!
@@ExplainingComputers thank you.
Just to show you I paid very close attention to you as usual, Dr. Barnatt, I couldn't help but notice you saying at 9:00 that the Odroid N2+ has "a very nice blue LED flashing a heartbeat". Well, we've both had our say in the past about these nefarious sleeping-robbing blue LEDs, so I won't belabor the point again. But I do insist as usual that these little swine are not "nice", as you repeatedly assert at every possible opportunity. Nevertheless, thank you once again for a very fine video. Nobody else covers the gamut of single-board computers as well as you do!

"it's even this nice little blue LED flashing a heartbeat there to show the board is alive" this gave me a nice little chuckle.
I thought that was subtitle when I saw 대한민국 written on the middle of the board. Korea... that is my country. I feel really sorry for hardkernel, for not knowing that they produce some really nice sbcs. Thank you hardkernel for proudly putting our country's name on their works.
Hi Christopher. I'm so bussy making video's that I forgot to watch yours.
Nice to see this video. I love my N2+, but I barely use it. M4V2 still is my main SBC, and then I always have a 2nd SBC for research. Like now RockPiX. Too many boards, and not enough brains and hands to use them all at once :)
The Odroid N2 and N2+ have the same hardware, so no need for different images. Tho it is up to the software provider to have the correct settings for the N2+ to be able to run it at its higher clockspeed.
There is also a problem in benchmarking SBCs with different sized clusters like the N2 vs N2+. To make a very long story short, most benchmark tools expect all cores to be equal. While at ARM SBCs this often isn't the case. No problem with quad-cores. But here the difference in perfornance between clusters change.
You can do the same test on one core. For example with sysbench it would be (sudo taskset -c 0 sysbench...) to do the test on core 0. Then taskset -c 5 to do the same on a big core.
Or test clusters together (sudo taskset -c 0-1) for the 2 small cores and (sudo taskset -c 2-5) for the big cores.
It is because x86 never used unequal cores. So not much software is adjusted for this. I often use this for better optimisation.
With blender this isn't a problem since it gives a task to a core, the core just needs to finish that task. Some cores do it slower than others, but they all work at 100%.
Have a great day. Greetings.
NicoD
Hi Nico, and thanks for this. I got very frustrated with the N2+ at first, until I realized that you have to run the updater on the Hardkernel Ubuntu MATE image to made it run at the higher clock speeds. They really could try harder to support their own products.

I wonder if you could do a comparison of the gpio functionality of these boards? Possibly pick three or four SBC's to compare on a single project (for a robot, or sensors,... ). Thanks for another great video Chris.
No problem with CZcams, i like it. This can be the new pc for a lot of users. Almost 95% of arm sbc have problem with CZcams.

I just released Retro Arena for this board last night. I used the N2 Ubuntu 18 and back ported the kernel to have the max clock speeds available. It also has a working Kodi, which Ubuntu 20 seems to not like.

You can get a Wifi usb key for 10€ i don't get that point anyway. How does Netflix and vod works on that ?
Good basis for a data server or network router, though that would need USB-Ethernet dongle, since it only has one Ethernet port.

👍👍 interesting! TY!
While everyone's talking about the Pi4 as a desktop replacement, the Odroid looks like a much better candidate. It handles You Tube videos better, and has more (all) USB 3 ports. It also has it's major connectors on on the front and back so you don't have to deal with SBC octopus cable management (cables sticking out on all sides.) Haven't found a manual for it (conspicuously absent when unboxed.) Too bad about the WiFi/Bluetooth, but that can be fixed with a dongle. It has the same shortcomings as the Pi4 when it comes to mass storage, so you'll probably end up with an external SDD plugged into a USB port. Not ideal, but perhaps worthwhile to get the power of this board.

I really like odroid products and software support. Only bad thing is availability and requirement for express shipping, which adds taxes and bumps them to 3x listing price here in Brazil.
Expected video, thanks Chris. It would have been wonderful if you could attach the results of RPi4 vs N2+
I like your style of speaking; reminds me of David Attenborough. I could listen to that voice all day. Anyway, nice video about Odroid N2+. I'm very interested in mini PCs; I have refurbished old laptops / SFF PCs, and installed SSDs w/Linux Mint for family and friends that only use them for internet browsing, email and light office work.
Ничего не понятно, но очень интересно! (Шутка) 😁
Thanks. Very good. Best channel about single-Board computers!
I guess the change to sysbench was so that instead of either time or events option implicitly taking priority, it's now whichever comes 1st, so to have events take priority time needs to be infinite.
Hi Chris, can you discuss the security aspect of these SBCs and cover ARM TrustZone on these ARM chips?
this request would be rather interesting
Nice work :)
Thank you! 😃
For a possible SBC Mini Entertainment system, not having a Bluetooth & Wifi capabilities is really odd to me (especially considering that smaller form-factor SBC like Raspberry Pi or Rock Pi both have it).
Hello there!
Thanks for another great video!
I was thinking about overclocking my Odroid to 2,4 gHz.
Do you recommend buying a fan for overclocking purposes or will the passive cooling suffice?
Regards!
😂 Hurry... out of the way plastic case bits!!! Let me at that electrochemically etched circuit board and its thingemy wodgets... quickly... quickly!!! Love your work Sir 👍
It is almost perfect. The issues from my perspective: Lack of reset and power on button, that can be used to either start or shutdown, or power off (just like on ATX x86 boards), with option to make it power on after power loss without pressing power on. GPU drivers are still not as good as they could be, especially Vulkan. And the last issue, lack of net boot via DHCP/BOOTP/TFTP without any MMC/SD on board.
Didnt know about those differences between the Odroid N2 and the Odroid N2+
Love all your SBC videos. I'm thinking of trying to do a SBC NAS with several RAID drives. Is this a silly idea? What SBC could handle several physical disks (SSDs for instance). Thanks
Some sources on the Internet claim that Amlogic S922X should be able to push 4k@75Hz VP9 and H.265. It would be nice to see that in action.
Nice, I wanted to get an Odroid N2 when it came out but I forgot... Now I'm plus tempted.
Say, ever considered to try Armbian along (or perhaps instead of) maker-provided distros? Armbian's usually MUCH better crafted
Another excellent video Chris. Thank you!
Would it be possible to do a video on SBC's communicating with each other?
Keep up the great video work! Loving the SBC series so far.
It would be interesting to see box86 (an OpenSource Linux Userspace x86 Emulator) running Wine on the Odroid N2+ with some older Windows games or Cinebench R11.5 to see how the x86 emulation performs on the Odroid N2+.
I am not sure if the Odroid N2+ supports OpenGL (not ES), which is needed for Wine to emulate DirectX but if the official driver doesn't support it, it should still be possible with the Mesa Panfrost driver.

Greetings back frm the UK!
i do like this SBC and its a very capable SBC too but its a little pricey at the moment and without onboard wifi and bluetooth. yes you could use a dongle for wifi i guess. overall its impressive id stick to the linux O/S as android is well erm crap........id like to see another vid on this SBC showing its full potential compared to a wider range of SBC`s........Nice Vid Chris ....on to the next one mate
It is disappointing that there is now WiFi or Bluetooth. Although I have ethernet capability locally, it would affect what I would purchase because I have to keep certain projects mobile. It still looks like a solid system. Thank you for the video
I got the original N2 4GB as my mediaplayer hooked up to my 65" 4K Samsung QLED TV and LG SK9Y Soundbar and it works great, even large 4K HDR files with high bitrate it plays with no problem.
I hope that Windows on ARM takes off so we can run Windows from these small SBC's now that there are some with 8GB RAM as well.
Hopefully the RPI5 will come with either and M.2 slot or eMMC since SD is way too slow and unrealiable these days.
For most people Windows is not a choice but a habit. For some it may even be a bad habit. Have you ever seriously tried using Linux Mint or Ubuntu Mate, for example, as your general purpose desktop?
Mr Barnatt, would you please make a video to review the ODROID-M1, perhaps comparing it with the Pi 4, and the other Odroids you have already reviewed? The specs seem impressive, but my knowledge about SBCs, and computers in general, are limited.
❤❤❤
Why don't any of these SBCs have built in POE. Most that have a POE add on board, won't fit in many of the better cases with the POE board mounted. Very annoying.

08:28 Totally agree! I can't understand why they don't include it. A WiFi/BT chip/module costs nothing and takes no space.
It would be interesting to see if you could set up these single board computers into a video rendering farm but does the free version of davinci resolve support this?
Only 95% sure, but I believe you need the studio version. All the "how-to" information I've seen out there on setting up a render farm with Resolve uses the studio version.
I have an Odroid N2 with 4G ram. I use it as desktop replacement. Works perfectly fine. But now I wish to upgrade.
Wish you had taken off the heat sink and shown whats on the other side of the PCB. In particular im curious if all components were selected to have the same level or if the heat sink was machined to accommodate.
I saw the N2+ was around and was wondering if you'd cover it. I have the N2 under my TV and watching this video on it right now. I haven't found anything that won't play on it in terms of video files.
Odroid C4 at least has the heat-sink on top of the board. Don't understand a heat-sink underneath on the N2[+]. Heat rises so it'll be putting a fair amount of it back into the device and that will be exponential as temperatures increase. Fan mounts underneath seem just as ill-conceived. I suppose one could easily run it up-side-down if the GPIO pins are not being used - or even on its side - then a mounted fan would make sense. Otherwise it's going to be a DIY job.
