  • This is a view from the contractors' entrance. The rest of the entire lot has the existing fence covered by contractors plastic tarps. The last of basement of the temple is being excavated and they are cleaning up the parking lot area. We still can't tell where the new temple, the Provo Rock Canyon Temple, will be built.

The Provo and Ogden temples came about when David O McKay wanted an assessment made on how to make the existing temples more efficient. It turned out building two new temples made more sense than extensive remodels of existing temples. Money was tight and so David O McKay wanted the same design for both because it would be cheaper. They were the first temples based around multiple instruction rooms surrounding a central celestial room. They were very efficient temples and a lot of ordinance work was done in them. That’s the important part. The temples might be temporal structures but the ordnances performed in them are eternal.
