Differences in Super Mario Wonder's Trailer vs Full Release

- my friend noticed inconsistencies in the trailer and then I spent the next 5 hours hyper-fixating on them and created this video you're welcomed.
Here's a Video exclusively of the comparison footage I recorded:

I noticed another diference: In the giant hoppo segment, the timer has three digits instead of two
Oh good eye. I actually had that mentioned to me before I began working on the video but it must've slipped my mind.
The pacing of the video is like- REALLY fast; you almost have no time to actually see the changes unless you pause.
Also it would've been better to write "Before" and "After" on some of these because of how fast the video is we don't know which is what.
Yeah I'm aware, this was my first time working with small clips so my editor was scaled in like milliseconds and I didn't notice how little time everything was on screen for and it only got worst the longer the video went on for.

0:07 Easy difference right out the gate. Small characters play the full size jump sound. And the mushroom coming out the pipe in the first part uses the sound from the elephant item
also the jump sounds different in the vid
Toadette and all the other characters have distinct jump sounds from each other

I noticed that they changed the main character from a small man in red and blue to a tiny pinky mushroom looking girl.

The fact that Here come the hoppos and scram scedaddlers switched tilesets in the final implies that the former was going to be the third level of the game before being replaced by the latter
Yeah I imagine they wanted a more fast paced level after Trottin Piranha Plant's sidescroller

Yeah, I remember a friend bringing that to my attention before the game even came out but I could never really hear a distinct difference enough to be confident in it.
its kinda a change of tone in the sound i dont really know how to explain it but the voice kinda is higher pitched i guess?
also before commenting this i was “wondering” if i was going insane so i rewinded it like 20 times before noticing it lol
Technically, the male voice shouting has a different timing, and it's on a different chromatic scale
I didn’t know these smalls beta changes. Thanks for pointing them out. Now Super Mario Bros. Wonder officially has some Beta Content besides that Scrapped Tune in Sonic Superstars which was a 15 minute long video of Sonic going through Speed Jungle without using the Drop Dash.
Including no HUD in that footage
No problem, it's always fascinating seeing how a game evolves before release and I was surprised how many things were different despite the small gap between reveal and release.
Am I just slow, or was this video just WAY too fast to actually notice anything?

Another difference I noticed: during the cap badge challenge, mario and peach are holding a super mushroom, which is impossible in that specific spot.
When the Wonder Flower shows up in the trailer, it plays the normal power up sound instead of the Wonder Flower version.
I found one! 2:45 That text is supposed to say you GOT a wonder seed.

1) The blue plant animation is different
2) It says 'You got a wonderseed' with no space between the wonder and the seed.
3) The elephant powerup showcase has a ? Block with no brick blocks surrounding it.

I had no idea that so many things changed. Really well made video.. although phasing is way too fast.
Yeah I'm aware the video is too fast, but I'm glad regardless I was able to get more people to take notice to this stuff it's really fascinating
You forgot to mention that the sky in the warp pipe frenzy has a more blue shade rather than almost black
Wow, I had no idea they changed so much stuff, it really wasn’t that long of a wait between reveal and release, I think the biggest shocker for me is the levels where the theme changed entirely.
My personal theory is that Scram Skaddelers and Here Come the Hoppos actually changed spots in development. They had each other's theme and they never showed what the third level was in this trailer.
Maybe after the side scroller of Trottin Piranha Plant's wonder event they decided having a more fast pace and regular level made more sense then a more gimmicky and slow pace one.
3:55 this level only Spain later in the game so we can assume that the trailer's player doesn't unlocked it right now
I forgot to mention the hoppos in the background are in a more flat environment and there are more of them now
They're different sizes too. I left out most things relating to background details but if you want another the background pipes in 1-1 wonder effect are placed way differently
Also, in the bulrush stampede wonder effect, the sky has a more sunrise type of feel, but I know you pointed that out already
one difference is that the collecting wonder flower sound is pretty different

i wonder why nintendo decided to change some of these details. Like why is it so important that a pipe is sligtly larger?
Well you it's actually incredibly simple. That singlular pipe is supposed to be the spotlight of the level and in the original build it's entirely feasible for a player to jump onto the vertical pipe and completely jump over the sideways pipe. The new build was designed specifically to almost gurantee you'll have to touch the pipe. These are things one needs to take into account when designing levels it gets wacky.
3:51 Breaktime is probably just not there because they only show up after youve beaten a nearby level. The trailer is probably uses a new safe file for footage
It's possible but generally the trailers take place in a modified save where levels are marked as uncomplete but everything is already unlocked. We see every level on the map whenever they opened it in the direct footage.
Internal file structuring implies that Scram Skedaddlers and Here Comes the Hoppos were meant to be swapped. The choice to have them the way they are in the final game was most likely a last minute decision
This is what I've assumed ever since the demo, it's nice to finally get confirmation on it thank you. I imagine they decided after 1-2 having an autoscroller the next level should be a bit more face paced

I don't think you can really tell if wonderbulb leaves out the pipe or not with the zoomed in footage. I zoomed in 4.5x and went at .25x speed and it seemed about the same. The bulb comes out really fast and before you come out.
It's supposed to play a sound effect when it comes out of the pipe which is missing, so I have to ask myself what's more likely, the mechanic of the wonderbulb coming out of the pipe not being implemented yet, in a trailer with various other inconsistencies with wonderbulbs, or that for whatever reason this interaction was fully implemented except for a sound effect.

I think with all of these changes last minute Nintendo was lying when they said the developers had no deadline to make the game. They probably just stopped the 2D Mario series until people were begging for more and then just overpaid the developers to make the game in a regular amount of time.
The deadline thing was misrepresented. They didnt have a deadline during pre production that was it. But still this is nothing out of the ordinary all games change massively in a short span of time and none of that takes into account the fact marketing will often use builds that are significantly outdated.

i think this video is underrated, but one issue i have with it is that you played as toadette while the trailer used mario
The whole point of me playing as Toadette is for it to be immediate obvious what is FInal Game footage and what is trailer footage as she isn't in the trailer at all. (she's also just my favorite Mario character)
