    I had a 2014 2500 megacab longhorn and a 40' 5th wheel. Backing the trailer I always worried about kissing the cab. I turned a sharp curve in the trailer park and the left trailer wheels went off the road. Good will helpers, back it up back it up, cut it more. As I yelled out it's as FA- never got the R to FAR out- crunch. Kissed the truck cab on the driver side. Managed to get out of the rut, only a big dent in the truck. I eventually traded it for a 2018 megacab 2500, thought a slider in the bed would be better - I really didn't like that either- I was again worrying about turns and wasn't comfortable with the slider to the back. I sold the trailer aug'22 and really like my truck without messing with the trailer. Add it just has 11,262 miles in today's market I'm more pleased. Enjoy your new truck, I look forward to more videos on it.

    You will probably find that the Mega Cab cuts into payload as well it will be a challenge with a 5th wheel and proximity to the cab. The longbed would make maneuvering the 5th wheel much easier as well as provide more payload. And of course, the dually will make it all much more comfortable to tow with.

    • @JakesTruckandTrailers
      @JakesTruckandTrailers  Před rokem +4

      Yep 100 percent right. The direction I wanna go is gonna be an all aluminum gooseneck enclosed race trailer with a tapered nose. It’ll give me the clearance with a mega cab with no issues and I’ll be able to keep it a bit lighter and have no issues at all with payload even at 17 to 18k pounds with the trailer (which I doubt I’ll get to). If I could have two trucks id have a mega cab and a dually long bed 😂😂

  • @KarasCyborg
    @KarasCyborg Před rokem +1

    If you are towing, you might as well get a 5500 chassis cab limited. Bigger payload. You don't need a H.O. Cummins to tow like 34k. Also you got a better turning radius. You can put a body on the back more amicable to how you are using the truck. They payload in the back is like 10k.

  • @RobertHasty
    @RobertHasty Před rokem +1

    I gotta a 2018 3500 Larimie dually HO no mega cab, they drastically cut into payload and towing capacity.

    There is literally no good reason to trade in a brand new truck for another brand new truck for something really minor. This is a part of the reason truck prices are insane

  • @123kurttruk
    @123kurttruk Před rokem

    Mega cab is fine. You may have to add a sidewinder or adjust the trailer and set up so it won’t contact the cab. It’s the same wheel base as the long bed so stability wise it’s the same. Dually would be nice.

    • @JakesTruckandTrailers
      @JakesTruckandTrailers  Před rokem

      Yeah we’ll see what I end up with and go from there. The trailer I’m looking at has a tapered nose, as well as the pin being alllll the way in the front of the trailer with no over hang at all so clearance may be no issue at all

  • @TjBruce817
    @TjBruce817 Před rokem +1

    2500 shouldn't even have a diesel option, it gimps it's payload to much, you end up with a payload just barley above a 1500 after fuel and people. It is a useless configuration unless you are making a Bro Dozer Mall Crawler.

    @treefiddy2470 Před rokem

    Agreed. If you're gonna tow often and need diesel power might as well go with the 3500. I have a 2500 gasser, works well for my set up.
    You may want to rethink the short bed with the megacab on the 3500. Many short beds have issues with 5th wheels / gooseneck. Another plus for the long bed is the 50 gallon tank option.

  • @DarkHorse08
    @DarkHorse08 Před rokem

    Aisins in the 2022 trucks are failing due to a bad snap ring. They are losing all forward gears and leaving you with reverse only. Have you looked into if they have corrected this with current Aisin production? The failure is due to getting the snap rings from a different supplier that doesn’t seat perfectly in the transmission.

  • @aaronkelley8909
    @aaronkelley8909 Před rokem

    Only knock on the HO is I have heard there is 20 percent decrease in fuel economy. Maybe not a big deal to some. But with the price of diesel fuel that would be significant for me.
    Otherwise sounds like you did your homework. Thanks for the update.

    If you're pulling that much trailer you're gonna want a dually and you're not gonna want a Mega cab you're gonna want a crew cab with the full length bed or you're gonna have problems with your trailer and the cab. The difference is on your new truck you're going to ask the trailer where to go if you got a daully with a full length bed and a 4 door you're going to tell the trailer where you want it to go

    • @JakesTruckandTrailers
      @JakesTruckandTrailers  Před rokem +2

      Only reason I didn’t order what you just said was I daily drive these trucks and I just didn’t want a dually for everyday empty driving. 95 percent chance I’m going to get a tapered nose gooseneck race trailer (all aluminum) which won’t have any interference with the short bed. Your right on tho, can’t beat the stability and authority of a dually

    Just ordered my 2023 2500 longhorn at the end of November. Its my First time ordering a truck, i was just wondering did you negotiate the price when you were building the truck or did you wait till the truck arrived? I have people telling me I'm stupid to try negotiating on a custom ordered truck so just curious on when you negotiated price.

    • @JakesTruckandTrailers
      @JakesTruckandTrailers  Před rokem +3

      I love this question. So this is my second Ram truck spec order and will be my third truck purchase in the last year so hopefully this’ll be helpful. Both orders I did not give them a penny until I had a signed document by the dealer and myself on a price for the truck. Dealers have more discount incentive on ordered trucks vs off the lot trucks so your best chance of getting a large chunk knocked off that truck. I LOVE negotiating and I’d like to say I’m good at it. I was able to get my 2023 ordered at employee pricing plus about a 1000 which is not much more than the dealers invoice for the truck. So yeah don’t listen to others, absolutely negotiate prior to order placement it’s an amazing way to get a good deal on the exact truck YOU want if your not in a rush to get the truck for a few months. Hopefully that helped!
