Geesh, I wish I knew about all of this 50 years ago. I've always want to go to sea. The river is not exactly the sea, but it's pretty close.

I sent Marquette a boy and they sent him back home a man. It was a great experience for him, and he's got tales to tell his grandchildren, when they come. He served on the Warrior a lot, Mary K., and a few other boats. Worked up to oiler before his time was up.

Don’t don’t the barge stuff man. I’m about to get on with a power company soon. Will gladly do this type of work for 30+ years. I applied for them too, got a call and never called back. But they sent me an email like a month later saying I didn’t get it.

You are not missing anything. The pay is actually lower than a factory job. 150 dollars a day and you work 12 hours with no overtime. Gone 30 days at a time including holidays.
Most of your time is spent being a maid. You are even required to make up the captain’s bed twice a day.
