    I was up at 5am UK with 50 engineers to do a workaround for our systems to continue to work and get back online as massive online retailer, took us 3+ hours for full restore get online, was not fun start to a Friday. Very bad one company can take out so much of the worlds businesses. We for sure must keep cash !

    IT management fallen into the trap of allowing automatic updates to core system software, with no sandbox testing or control, especially with regard to Microsoft based PCs and servers. No mission critical system should ever be updated without prior testing of new updates and parches on a secure test system. But that requires properly trained IT administrators and systems development staff to be on-hand - and they cost too much!

    if you are in software development you know that sometimes even well tested changes may have bugs. My question is why change management of this product allowed for roll out worldwide within literally 2 hours? I would think such updates would be spread in time for days so in case of a bug only a small portion of customers would be affected.

    Why they keeping around the globe? South east asia seems to not get affected by this at all. Banks, airports are operating as usual. Hope they learn from this stupid issue. Why rely on just one firm to be able to control or crew up everything?

      Nobody. I'm sitting here at the airport for over 18 hours for 3 flights that has been canceled. No meal tickets, no hotel. Airlines refused to help because they said it wasn't thier problem.

    Its the fault of IT management and CIOs allowing forced updates and not controlling their IT environments! I have been warning of this as an IT professional for the last few years.

    Great comparison with Y2K. However if the industry had not rewritten their software for Y2K, the software would have had to be corrected during the outage. However crowdstrike simply sends a corrected file and every server gets manually restarted. Therefore this is less severe than if Y2K had not been prepared for.

    Setting in my condo overlooking the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, have not seen any disruptions in air traffic. Used my local and US visa and it worked fine. What is the problem?
