In this week's video, I'm sharing a step-by-step watercolor tutorial in which I take you through my entire process for this Christmas wreath.
I explain everything, from how I create a quick pencil sketch, to my color swatching, to my favorite techniques for layering leaves and creating dimension in the bow. đżđïž
Before starting with the final piece, we practice painting three different kinds of leaves which we'll be bringing into our wreath. I do recommend taking time to practice these leaves before jumping into the full piece, especially if it's been a while since you last painted loose botanicals.
Hope you enjoy this one and find it super helpful! đ

Thanks Erika. Iâm planning on trying my hand at this again, a few years after my first attempt. Have a wonderful Christmas.
Hey, Frank! Hope you're having a lovely holiday season. đđ Happy to hear you'll be giving this one a go! Enjoy your practice. đ
You explain things so well! I always learn so much from your videos (including Skilshare). I know how to do these techniques but it's like juggling, when I do a composition I drop some of the balls. ha. Your step by step explanation helps a lot. (one of the things I do is overwork, and lose my highlights, so you explained how to avoid that VERY well). đ„°
Hey, Suzette! I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the holiday season. đđ I'm glad to hear that you're finding my videos helpful. It's so true what you mention about "dropping some of the balls" when tackling a fuller composition! There's so much that goes into a complete drawing or painting, from different techniques, to different colors, etc. I find it so helpful to break fuller pieces down into things that I can practice in isolation in order to tackle larger pieces with more confidence and ease. I struggled with overworking for years! To the day, if I'm not careful, I still arrive at overworked results. But acknowledging our weak points is the first step toward improving! You've got this! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Merry Christmas!

@@ErikaLancasterArt really? You overwork paintings? Ever? I can't believe it. Seriously you're so good. OK, I made this wreath again today and sent it in a card to my elderly neighbors. I know they will love it! Thank you and wanted you to know.
