- The Mirage 2000 is my new favorite DCS module and wanted to just talk through about how I think it fits in the DCS Multiplayer landscape and encourage anyone to try it out. I typically am not a huge fan of the Razbam modules but I think this plane is in a good state and worth a purchase. This is not a paid promotion, this is just me coming across a fun module that allows for some asymmetrical fights to happen in DCS multiplayer while not flying a plane that is ancient (eg Mig-21).

Its nice, but a bit stuttery :) Especially when its uploaded at 60 fps on YT.
The Mirage is deadly in the mountains, but my favorite thing is to hunt Tomcats in open flat terrain with it. It's excellent at notching, and usually bandits come from the same bearing as their AWACS, so you can notch them both at the same time. I literally just wait for them to fly over me, and hit them from below. Works great on Vipers and Hornets too, although they're more difficult to notch. There's nothing finer than wiping out a 3-ship who were up in the contrails, headed supersonic towards their nearest datalink contact. I've never had a Mirage do that to me when I'm in one of those planes, but I can only imagine it's like getting attacked by a Nile crocodile at the water's edge.

@@Enigma89 not to mention in a dogfight if you do the merge right you almost always will get the missile off the rail first and if it goes to guns with some altitude you are inside their turn circle all the time keeping them very defensive I've done dogfights in mobettametas dogfight server and against a dude only using the mirage. absolutely saw the dominance in a 1 circle and in general. only thing i could do is su-33 cobra in the fox 2 realm to try and beat his nose position and same in the hornet. he won most the matches but in guns I couldn't get him unless were on the deck and low energy
I find that the 2K has a very satisfying flight model. Something about just feels right. It's great at maneuvering, yet doesn't feel like it's on rails.
Unstable airframe and uses Fly By Wire system which gives the feeling of smoothness
As a A/G person, I just use the mirage as a quick bomb truck.
The 30mm is great too.

I really want more Redfor aircraft, Soviet, Chinese even Indian. Su-30MKI's for example I think would be an awesome addition, I'm keen for the Mig-23 buy id also really like MiG-25's/31's. Balance it out and also still give a level of asymmetry to the fight.
I agree with you 100%. MP isn't very interesting on some of the MP servers because they try to match the planes up and it deletes the asymmetry of the fights. They need more redfor planes.
I wish there was more early bluefor aircraft. There are enough redfor aircraft to recreate any conflict pre 1980 but a stunning lack of corresponding bluefor aircraft.
@@questofknowledge8788 DCS was never about modeling a certain era, you have this mismatch in the WW2 scenario as well.
@@cyberpunkalphamale No god just no. Not in DCS. It needs to focus more on the Late cold war. There were alot more planes that could be simulated. LAOMAC had the era right. I don't really know what happened with DCS in 2018 till now. But there are a ton of late cold war jets coming. Razbam needs to start on there Mig-23MLA. If ED gets to do the Mig-29 we can have some realistic balanced fights.
@@cyberpunkalphamale If you want to play fake aircraft then play War Thunder or Ace combat. I do hear VTOL VR is pretty fun. DCS started out as a place to collect the most realistic study simulations of combat aircraft ever made. For the most part it has managed to stay true to that. There are places like the F-16 flight model that still need some work, but I would bet good money that ED will get it right some year. Also there are some concessions made to realism, the Groma on the Mig-21, or the TGP on the Cat. But those basically have an asterisk next to them saying for game play purposes only. Fake aircraft would ruin DCS completely. There is no way it could compete against other arcade Sims, and the fan base it's spent over a decade building up would abandon it, myself included.
Re: INS Alignment time: If the server allows it you can perform a 90s stored heading alignment. Simply move the INS Mode selector to ALCM, press VAL on the INS panel, and it'll be done in 90s
This was cool. I've heard in forums and other videos that the Mirage module is also just packed with stuff to do, more so than most others.
Right now it's my favorite plane to fly. I even advise this as the first plane to buy from DCS. I have F-16, F-18, FC3, Ka-50 among others, but the Mirage 2000C is where I have the most fun.
I’ve been getting into the Mirage recently after starting on the F-15 and Viper, without a lot of multiplayer success.
I’m around the 200 hours logged stage across DCS in general and still feel like a noob because I struggle to find people due to not knowing where to look on the map, not being able to tell where the front line is, which runways are friendly and that sort of thing - the gameplay dynamics are more of a hurdle than controlling the plane or it’s systems, but I’m like you in that I much prefer the ACM, close range manoeuvring fights than the Fox 3 stuff.
The Mirage is either perfect for me in difficulty, management and capability, or I’ve just reached that point in game hours where things click, it’s a dream to fly and I managed to kill another player on my first solo PvP flight, which can’t be said for any of my FC3 planes, and I’m still yet to have what I would call a “good” fulfilling flight in the Viper.
As it happens, I’ve been flying the M2C on BlueFlag 80s - regarding the INS, there is a short version. You input all the info, but then instead of turning the dial to ALN, I think it’s called C-ALN instead, takes probably 2/3 minutes, I didn’t time it, but it’s basically the same as using stored heading in the Viper rather than doing a full alignment, by the time you’ve got everything else ready you’ll be ready to roll.
I arm up first, whilst inputting my knee board data, then whilst I’m refuelling I’ll start the alignment and sort out everything else.

One thing I Forgot to respond earlier, your general sense of being 'lost' or 'unsure' with the state of the DCS map and where the enemy are and where the frontlines are is super common. One thing I can maybe suggest and it feels really lame to do this but you just gotta do it until you are a regular on a server - look at where people are spawning. The first time I spawn on a new mission/server, I look at where everyone is spawning then look at the map and then you can kind of piece together where action should be happening. It doesn't help that Requesting a Picture from the AWACS annoys everyone on your side. It feels really 'gamey' to look at where people are spawning but everyone is doing it. In an ideal world, there would be a way to represent areas of ownership on a map to better illustrate the scenario set up to players.

My project file got boned so I could not make the last tweaks to this video. Some notes... 02:54 What I mean here is that different planes want to fight in different ways. 05:59 The line on the RWR is the direction the enemy missile is being fired from, this being detected by the MWS. It's very useful information/SA in a fight. 13:13 I want to clarify my comment here. There are some great players that can do BFM in DCS. My statement here is that in comparison to IL-2 where all fighting is BFM, DCS has a lot of players that stick to Fox-3 fighting only. So if you can catch them in a knife fight with the Mirage, you should be able to win out with just your maneuvering. Most of the fighting in growling isn't reliant on BFM and the Mirage excels at it. 13:45 These missiles are being fired too close as indicated by the range indicator (bottom right of HUD), so this is why they are failing to connect.
So the other good thing about the Mirage is it's strong ECM and the all altitude performance of the fighter. It has the fuel to stay low and fast... And it still performs extremely well at high altitudes. The MWR only works as long as you have Magic missiles.
It also is a very effective air to ground platform. Probably one of the better bomb trucks.
While I agree with all your points, going high altitude is a death sentence in this plane as everyone else has fox 3
@@brindevie22 I think the Mirage can be quite fast at high alt so the idea is you can just run away from Fox-3 missiles if you get shot at high up. I have not done extensive testing with it but I know Tempest does try to meme at high alt with it. He has surprised me with his success with it. I prefer flying low though. I tried flying a Mig-29 at like 11km altitude you can catch some people with your speed off guard because you can just dive into people once they have wasted their missiles and be in their face rather quickly. The issue is that on growling there are a ton of people flying so you get 3rd partied often =\
@@brindevie22 oh I wouldn't recommend it against fox-3 capable aircraft. But again it depends on the situation. You should always read the situation.
Interesting take on the mirage, a while ago I used to exclusively play the SU27/MiG29 and it always felt so demoralizing to know that you were always at a disadvantage in terms of systems and weapons and when I bought the F18/F14/F16 it felt really liberating knowing that you were now in an even playing field. However, what you said in the first part of your video resonated with me very well, MP has just turned into a spam fest of Aim120 and AIM54s all over the place and MP, in general, has lost its charm (at least in modern warfare servers). The mirage seems like a very interesting plane but I am afraid that it's just going to feel like a downgraded flanker even if it has its own systems that are in some ways superior to even the viper and the hornet.
I love the Flanker, before I started playing the Mirage, my default choice was the Flanker. The biggest advantage that the Flanker has over the Mirage is the datalink. Now you don't have a datalink in the Mirage but you do have a pretty decent radar, a ridiculous weapon warning system (it warns you about IR missiles too) and you are very nimble + maneuverable. I find the flying part and dodging enemy missiles to be much easier in the Mirage than the Flanker. The way I see it, the hard part is surviving the Fox-3 barrage until you can maneuver into range. With the acceleration of the Mirage, it's maneuverability, jammer and RWR, it is far easier to survive the Fox-3 barrages than the Flanker. So the hard part is much easier with the Mirage. Then once you are within Fox-2 range, the Mirage is going to essentially out maneuver everything in a single turn, so basically, if you get in range chances are is that you are going to win.
That's my take on it so far. The jammer is really interesting on the Mirage, I wanted to talk about it in the video but I do not know all the nuances of it yet so I left it out as I did not want to give incorrect information. Thx for your comment.
Good to see the mirage get some love. I fly it all the time and many people misunderstand its capabilities. Probably because of the grim reapers review"they miss represented ita capabilities due to it being an uncommon design".its incredibly deadly in the right hands.

I love the baguette :) It was the plane that really got me in to DCS. the campaign from Baltic Dragon really walks you through the systems of the M2k.

The S530 is an amazing missile: Be sure to use the flood mode if you have interrupted lock and re aquire. If you get within 10 nmi, the 530 will hit the enemy so fast they almost certainly cannot evade. Also, using airbrakes and delta drag, you can force overshoots like nobody's business. Get good at nose control in low energy states, and magic them when they separate. The Mirage's only other weakness is energy recovery is low and sustained turn fights down low with hornets or Tomcats (flap guys) are death. Finish your fights before the merge, or in one turn and you'll rarely be better served in a DCS module. Watch corner speed and if you get in a valley fight that you aren't winning, the Mirage, esp. clean, is faster than anything except a viggen on the deck with a small head start. It also has a good IR signature when you chop throttle and pull with flares: Only missile to fear is the Amraam and aim9x from rear aspect. I love the mirage... and I feel a good mirage pilot is the best skilled DCS aviator of the 4th gen planes. It doesn't have crutches like datalinks or IRST. It's ground strikes are a few mk 82s or old fashioned gun kills. (30mm HE can kill anything short of an MBT). Mirage was my second module after hornet. While I main the F16 for multirole and style... if I had a -5 and a multi role kit for a Mirage, I'd be back in it and not look back. The Hornet lacks the feeling of speed and power. The 16 is close, but its maneuverability is just a tad less than the M2000. The Mirage does what you ask it to do: even when it probably would be wiser not.to ask such things. I've done gun runs in a Mirage at negligently unsafe angles that a 16 or hornet would pancake trying. The Mirage's one weakness if it has one is that IRL.its Belouga cluster bombs are anti-everything. In DCS, like all non 99 series clusters they almost never work at all. Not Razbam's fault either. Low diameter rockets in DCS also rarely work as advertized, either, leaving the mirage's a2g as pitiful when compared to JDAM and multi rack F18/16s. Hopefully Razbam or ED will address those issues.

The Mirage 2000-5 had been dominating the skies in the Aegean and elsewhere for 2 decades now. Its Radar, Mica IR and EM Missiles, its ECM and maneuverability make it the deadliest aircraft around. It was funny to see the Lockheed guys trying to mute everyone talking about the Dash-5....

Thanks. IL-2 is my main game but I will try to do DCS every once in a so while. I believe the MP scene in IL-2 is much better so it's hard to get inspired to do something interesting for DCS.
You actually got me hooked on the Mirage, I trialed it and bought it last week. It's really fun and I can't say the lack of fox3s is holding me back much.
Oh man, coming from IL2 scene, not been playing tho for years because of biased planes. I have been having Mig-21 and F-14 for a loong time, never had time to really start flying them. Now I have been practicing couple of days in DCS now in F-14, yesterday first time on dogfight server, I like it a lot because of no fly by wire in it, but this video really inspired me to get Mirage. That's why I like the hornet, it also has really modern systems and weapons for locking targets down low, plus it has great instantaneous turn rate. And obviously it offers a lot of variety as a multirole navy aircraft.
The Jf-17 also has a missile warning system, although its series of optical sensors so unfortunately it will alert no matter who the launch is aimed at, although you do get an indicator on the SA page.
This is a cool video, and I totally understand your disinterest in BVR combat.. I like this take on the M2000. I told myself I would never buy a razbam plane again after the Harrier but this looks fun.. I could get into this lol
I kinda mentioned it in the video but I will go into it a bit more. I am not one of these people that will buy every module on release date. I still don't have the hind because of how weary I am. Only buying things that are basically done. If every module maker released things as complete as Deka with the JF-17, then I would have more trust but I don't. Heatblur and Deka are the only two makers where I will buy things on release date. The Mirage is fun because it feels like you are flying a modern day Mig-21 so instead of being a straight up meme on growling, you have enough modern systems to not feel like you are flying totally blind.

Nice vid = already have about 1000hours in DCS but mostly flew f18 but recently I wanna get away from it and move to Mirage + all kind of helicopters for ground strike and as I love bfm and fast planes the Mirage fits me perfectly I’m not good yet but once I figure out the systems completely I’ll begin to love it so keep it up and please More mirage videos 💪

Just stumbled upon this video and I love your point of view of the Mirage, it is also my favorite module. :) One of the Razbam guys even confirmed like one or two years ago or so on some forum that they also want to develop it into M2000-5 (the same plane just even more crack) which would be awesome but as it is Razbam saying that I am not expecting it anytime soon..

I am exactly the same. After dominating the canyons with the su27, I’ve really enjoyed terrorising those same su27 pilots with the mirage. Silky smooth. It’s funny cos no one expects a mirage in their face and I actually love its guns too. The only downside is the fox 1 losing track of targets at times.

It is something I am considering but it is nice to shoot a fox 1 to get people to turn away
I've done the 4x Magic load and it's fun in a suped-up F-5 kind of way. But the Super 530 is still a really good missile if you treat it as a short-range weapon. Very often when I'm in the Mirage, I'm hooking Hornets and Vipers from below. There is almost nothing on this Earth more inevitable than a low-to-high 530 kill from 4nm. It's fast, very maneuverable, and against the empty blue sky never loses track or eats countermeasures. If I'm carrying Magics only, a couple flares and a quick 9X completely turn the tables on me. I find both missiles equally valuable.
That said, one time there was an error in an 80s server's mission, where Tomcats were allowed AIM-54s but Mirages were heaters only. The Tomcats were harvesting all the poor Sparrow-armed Hornets. I took the Mirage, notched a Tomcat all the way to the merge, had a ~90 second dogfight, and got him with guns. Turns out he was with TAW and flew in SATAL. One of my proudest kills ever.
Absolutely. Well done man. I like the 530s but they are kind of short range too. I’d so love the mirage to have a real long range missile. Give us the Mica!
@@Owen-fn8ff Oh man. The Mirage with Micas would be nuts. Most people don't realize it because we fly it low, but the Mirage will fly circles around the Eagle and Viper at 50,000ft. It has serious maneuverability, doesn't bleed it's energy, and can stay at mach 2+ for half an hour. It's impossible to get hit by a 120 unless you get stupid close. But the 530 is so hopeless that you still can't hit the Amraamers without getting stupid close. With a Mica where you could shoot and then to avoid their missile, you could operate like a MiG-31 on the server. I have a video on my channel from Tacview of a flight where I shot down the enemy's AWACS, had the whole enemy team try to intercept me, and I just drove away.
When losing a radar lock you quickly switch into the boresight, vertical or horizontal mode mode and try to reaquire the target. It happens to Enigma in this video at 8:24 (czcams.com/video/pnf46pPWMFE/video.html starting at 8:20) but he quickly reacquires the target and the 530 still hits. I guess keeping the lock and being able to quickly reacquire it, is the reason why you should keep the locked target in the cricle as it's recommended in the manual.
As JETZcorp said, you can treat the 530 as a deadly short range fire-and-forget missile.
The M2000C was my first full fidelity module. Always love coming back to it.

I would get the mirage rn if I could afford it, definitely the next module I’ll be picking up! I also love going low in the mountains and engaging those dirty redfor players, but I fly the f18. Sparrows are really good for close range so I’m typically calling fox-1 regardless of what kind of terrain I fly, even if it’s Persian gulf or Caucasus.
Mirage is a blast. Also it's still getting a lot of love. Next OB update PCA logic is getting updated, new weapons, new A/G radar mode. The A/A radar is also being currently updated thanks to the AdA helping out and a newer french dev who seems obsessed with making it the most 1:1 airframe he can within reason.

@@Enigma89 The MICA IR would be like an ET but much faster and more agile. Like an Aim9X you can fire at 10 nmi and expect a hit.

Well done, the tribute to one of the best fighters in the world. I wish the C version would be finally upgraded! For example with a faster turbine, canards, and a rotating guns-turret under the nose for 20mm bullets.

I love this plane, I flew this nearly all the time before the F-18 came out and I need to get back to it, I know they've done a lot of changes to it, so I need to get back into. Not sure why you only buy completed modules because you are missing so much fun, but to each his own, so as long as you're having fun, that's great!
I don't play DCS every day, IL-2 is my main squeeze. So as someone who only plays DCS 2 times a week, it becomes really hard to keep track of what has changed or been updated in a plane that are in early access. It begins a cycle of negative training where I need to unlearn and relearn certain procedures. It frustrates me because I really just want to fight against people and not have to deal with stuffing my head with more procedures to memorize. I realize I am in the minority because most people just want new things to play with. I only play multiplayer. Thx for sharing your thoughts.
Mirage is my favourite fox1 platfrom, its fast, its radar is reliable and the S530D is just deadly. and man your BFM skill is amazing!
BTW you can choose to do a fast INS allignment which takes only approximately 3 min.
I also love the helmet radar visor, super helpful to maintain visual contact on target while cranking during a head on.

As french, I love to fly the Mirage. Incredible plane even if, like you say, we are more into the "fox3 era",right now. But maybe we will get a -5 version (actually it's done for the Armée de l'air, so maybe one day) that will put an end to the bad side of the 2000c (no fox 3 and only 4 missiles).
But like you say, having to fight for a kill is really what's make dcs fun.

I have to agree, the Mirage is a fun plane. It's pretty rewarding, also in A2G. Taking out Tunguskas with iron bombs via precision bombing or taking out airstrips with the FAB coming in very low and very fast. The nice avionics give you simple means to accomplish that. And for beginners it has a nice ILS landing autopilot almost letting you approach and touchdown automatically during bad weather / visibility.
I haven't done a2g yet with it but those anit-runway bombs look fun.

I’m kinda resurrecting an old video, but I really enjoyed this. These “oddball” modules, ones that aren’t the F-18 and F-16 are really interesting me at the moment. That being said, I really think we need a late Cold War MP server, something on the order of 1981-1991 time frame.
The odd ball modules are just more fun and interesting for me. I just can't do another MFD plane. As for late cold war, yeah it would be fun but I am outta time. The current server soaks up a lot of time.
You have just convinced me to try out the Mirage. I have it like a few years now, but never really flown it that much. After researching how much updates the Mirage got, I am really thinking of trying it out. Right now i went from Helos to the Harrier, which i love to fly since A2G is my cup of coffe, but i think it needs a bit of more updates and fixes. All in all, I prefer aircraft that provide hands on flying experience, and make you feel that you are actually flying. Hard to explain, but i will put it this way: I have tried to like the Hornet, carrier ops, its system managment and BVR capability. But frankly speaking, i found it boring. Now things like helicopters, AV-8B, and i think also the Mirage will give me what I like most. Also in my opinion, i think the Mirage has more than enough A2G capability. As a delta wing, it will also provide invaluable experience once the Eurofighter comes.

I enjoy the Mirage, my only grief is the changes every few months that makes all my mappings useless. She's a sweet fighter. The side panels are really hard for me to read in the Oculus right now....need to upgrade!
I wish they gave more of a heads up before you installed the patch that your mappings would be deleted. Takes sooooooooooo long to remap stuff.
I think I saw myself there for a split second in the Gazelle, JF-17 kept harassing me as I came up the river lol.

I usually don't buy modules when they are first released because I do not really believe in pre-ordering, I think it's been a bad precedent lately in the video game industry to buy things that aren't done and then they never get really 100% done. With that said, I intend to make an exception with the Mirage F1 and the Mig-23 because I think DCS should lean more into the cold war direction. I have heard from some people that it's pretty close so we will see. I hope both are good and I look forward to seeing how it fits into multiplayer. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@Enigma89 I get what you mean; I think this is more true in AAA studios where things are done in "episodes" or you get a tiny package followed by a DLC; they have the budget but still fail short. Eagle Dyanmics however is a small company and they've made it clear that they do rely heavily on pre-orders to get them through. Judging by the F18c (bought 9 months after initial release so it's fleshed out a bit) which is still EA - it's making considerable strides despite the Viper, the Hind, the longbow all coming behind. I consider myself a noob in the scene and as such not heavily invested as a company/brand "fan" as shutting down appropriate critical feedback is counter productive but personally I'd cut ED some slack on this.

I fly with people on discord on occasion but because my schedule is very hectic it is always very impromptu when i hop on.
Great video! you dont use IFF interrogate to identify? I just did my first multiplayer and could not get by without interrogating IFF. Really helpful. It would tell you A for ally on the HUD or just a long dash underneath the target square for enemy.
I use IFF most of the time. Some of these kills that happened I already knew they were bad but yes I would advocate to iff. :)
I got the Mirage for the Baltic Dragon campaigns and didn't love it at first but have been growing in appreciation for it. Your videos make me realize what I've been missing under my nose this whole time.

The Mig-29A is going to be a really good match up for this. I Love the M2000.
I wonder how the Mig-29A radar is going to be. The Mirage has a pretty decent sized cone and you can get a pretty decent picture with the b-scope view. The Mig-29, based on my experience on FC3, feels like you are looking through a pretty narrow area with how the visuals appear in BVR mode. So it may get tricky to fly with limited visibility and low fuel (!)
@@Enigma89 My understanding is that is kinda how it was. The West had batter avionics throughout the cold war. The M2000C was a proper 4th gen. Really the Mig-29 is like a 3rd++. It has a HUD, and a decent radar, but it's not on par with the Western tech. Plus the 29 wasn't fly by wire.
The sabre is my favourite. It’s early enough to be pre missiles (effectively), but reliable and stable enough that I feel like I’m fighting the enemy and not the plane, as some of the warbirds can at times.
But saying that, this video makes me want to take the mirage into multiplayer.
It's really fun but the mirage doesnt really have a home. It's too advance for cold war and gimped for fox 3 fights but it's still fun

I dump them when they are empty. If I run into someone before them, they generally just rip off when you pull hard.

My biggest problem with the mirage is only two fox 1's, really makes it limited in how many engagements you can do, which sucks cause its engine is so fuel efficient, I always have above half fuel after I get 1 or 2 kills with 530, then its just magics. If you get spotted early magic can't get the heat off your back and you are forced to struggle into the merge, which isn't always possible. So a Mirage 2000-5 would be the best thing. Makes me wonder what the problem was with the M2K designers, it had plenty of spots for bombs so why not modify it to fit 2 more fox 1 on the underbelly.
Love the Mirage, truly wish we could get an upgrade module to a 2000-5 with AMRAAM compatibility. Or even better, upgrade module to a 2000-5 with the MICA-EMs.

I am still figuring out what they changed. I know they changed a lot to a2g. I didn't notice any changes to a2a so far but i did have to remap the a2a modes. I haven't seen anyone complaining about it so i think it's okay. Once I had it mapped and I flew, i did not notice anything funky and chuck did not make any changes to his guide.

I do, I did some videos a month or two ago on it. I do enjoy the Mirage, it's just the era is in is not my favourite so i don't play it everyday
I got my first (and only) 4 player kill in a single sortie against 4 mirages, on the GS server. They all popped up between mountains about 20 miles from their home base, and I don't know if any of them ever knew what was going on, but the lack of a data link in modern DCS is a huge drawback, and in any teamgames, massive respect if you can make the m2000 work for you. I'm my book, it's a 1on1 guns only dogfighter, or multirole Vs AI.
Not having data link does really suck but being able to just whip it around in the Mirage makes it really neat so you just need to survive and get within arms reach (missile range) and you should be okay. It's not easy but I personally find it more fun and enjoyable to fight with the Mirage than just slinging out Fox-3 missiles. I do end up flying the SU-27 a lot because of data link. I will be releasing another flanker video highlighting some thoughts and a breakdown of a sortie soon, so be on the lookout.
@@Enigma89 the spamram tactic, I dunno mixed thoughts. It a bit lame going after 1 guy by repeatedly launching them out, he's defending so much and has no clue how many were fired, let alone how many are still hot... That being said, if someone is gonna waste 6-10 missiles on a single enemy aircraft, they better hope nobody else is around. Some of the easiest PvP kills are going after that guy, the one who's got your team mate boresighted, and giving chase with repeated fox3's. It's a bit like an unplanned tag/bag. The kinda thing I did when I first flew with F15 years ago. It's a lesson some quickly learn, and most for whatever reason don't. I always found it strange 90% of the kills on public servers with say 50 players on, come from 10% of the players. I'm wish I knew why, it would make it better for everyone, obviously skill levels will vary, but most people log off without a single kill.
What I love about the data link and the f18 it's ability to practice what the su27/mig29 does so well, ie hiding in the weeds, radar off, popping up just high enough to grab the occasional data link refresh, or RWR, and then hunting someone down using eyeballs (it's easier to see aircraft in VR at the 5-15nm range, since about DCS2.7 almost on par with flatscreen). The data link/eyeball/RWR usage nose cold, is obviously critical, and the fox2’s.. I like the 9x's for obvious reasons.
@@Enigma89 and I'll keep a look out for that video, I think what DCS/CZcams community is missing, is the more complete player v player AA tutorials/guides.
There's too much emphasis on "press this then this then hold this, press that" and this is confusing how to fire a missile, not play PvP. There's a lot on pure 1v1 dogfights which is great for those situations, but that's very rare in public, you might get a 1v1 for 60sec if you're lucky, but a third party is gonna wrap that up.
The other end you have clips showing the cockpit where someone has a blast on a server, but it teaches beginners almost nothing, because there's no feel for the battlespace, especially when clips are cut up. Yes the boring bits, but those bits are critical to show the timings, the thought processes, radar contacts, those little blips that could be etc. It's not a critic of anyone, someone new to DCS and you've figured out how to takeoff and turn radar on and fire the missile, there's something missing for most getting them to that first kill., Dunno if you agree, I suspect this is why most people pad out the numbers on multiplayer servers and log off after being shot down 2-3* without getting a kill.
Nice vid - but you may like to give your missiles an easier time and give them a little lead (retains more energy for target intercept). That is what the little square box displayed in HUD for locked target, place the box inside the circle then launch.
Yep thanks. Makes me miss the JF-17 hud. I am very used to the Mig-21 where the radar is essentially a straw so I am still easing into figuring out how wide the radar can see before it breaks. Been noticing the Mirage is really forgiving, almost too much, noticed locks keep through terrain for a bit longer than it probably should.
@@Enigma89 Well, rest easy no guess work required - the radar is telling you how far to aim-off ahead of the target to give best hit chance, so it also knows how far it can keep lock. You won't get the 'lead' box all the time if not relevant.
Also some radars can have 'anticipation, where it will continue lock based on the targets trajectory and re-acquire if able within a certain timeframe if it is where it thought it would be when returns resume :)
If the mirage had a Datalink it would be an absolute beast.
I don't have any razbam model yet because of that reputation. I'm considering buying this or the harrier though. Have you flown the harrier or the mig-19 and do you think the Mirage really beats them both on overall quality?
I have the Harrier and it is (was?) a buggy POS. A lot of people have told me it is fine now but that plane had a lot of problems in November 2020 and it's apparently fixed now but I have not played it since then. The Harrier is a cool plane for VTOL but besides that it's pretty under-equipped and under-armed. I don't play a lot of PVE or A2G stuff but when I do, I prefer doing SEAD and the Harrier's sidearm SEAD missiles are pretty small. It's a quirky plane but it's just very limited. Unless you have a specific mission/campaign to play the harrier, it seems like it's just a better use of time to learn the F-18 which sucks because the Harrier doesn't seem special in any regards now.
I don't have the Mig-19 but I have heard that the FM got fixed and it's great now but I have not played. I see a lot of people flying it now on Cold War server.
The Mirage to me, feels like a competently made module now. As I mentioned in the video, I do not buy early release/unfinished modules. I have been let down too many times and with that in mind, I would feel comfortable recommend buying the Mirage when it is on sale. Please note I have never done A2G with it and if you do plan to do A2G stuff with it, you should validate if it that part of the module is fine (I have heard it is). Thanks for leaving a comment.

What's hard to capture about this plane is that... in spite of all the plane's technical shortcomings compared to this or that... what it can do, it does exceptionally well. And the mentality you have to have to fly it is such a knife's edge balance between absolute predatory focus and sheer joy. Unlike the F5 or Mig 21, the Mirage can -consistently- deliver. And seriously, don't underestimate the 530 as a short range missile. Its lethal up close: Pull a little extra lead (dump speed) and let one go. Folks run 4x magic and I don't get it. My hit rate with 530Ds in parameters is over 85%. French range cues on the HUD -mean- what they say, unlike Russian and US ones. I get plenty of 530 kills under 3 nmi. Save the magics for last resort.
If the M2000C had 4 S530, I'd expect 3.5 kills a sortie. Its an absolutely lethal missile, so long as the pilot doesn't try to treat it like an R27 or Sparrow or even Amraam.
Just like you, I absolutely love the mirage, my only gripe with it is the gun sight, I can't consistently hit anything with it.
It's awful and the limited ammo makes it doubly hard
@@Enigma89 actually I find the trick is treat it like IL-2 and use the fixed crosshair on the hud for it. Don't follow the tape, and just use the circle secondary your accuracy will greatly improve.
If you would allow this bird on your server that would be great 👍🏻😬, if the 530s are considered too modern for the server you could omit them from the load out , you could allocate only so many Mirages per map too .
Now 530D has been reworked and is pretty bad at low speed, but sneaking in the mountains is still pretty fun with magics and cannons, and having a 30+ nautical miles' 530D at high speed / high altitude is not a bad deal.
2:28 if anyone ever sees this, you make a good point here but its not about the aircraft. Its about how you use it. Personally i love a2g with the viper and going for the e-3. Or trying a2g munitions on helis. Its about the pilot, not the aircraft. Good night.

Picked this up a while ago but just couldn't get a feel for it when I tried it.
I've been getting back into the game and like to do a mix of a2a and a2g. While the mirage can do this, the loss of the fox 1's is a bit of a pain.
I'll have to dust this module off and give it another go.
If you are willing to deal with the Fox-3 barrage and just try to bait people into getting into your arms reach then you will have fun with this plane.
Thinking this will be my modern module, I already have the F-5 for Cold War, so I don't have a need for the MiG-21 (as much as I'd like it)

You mentioned staying low to avoid awacs. I though awacs could see low flying aircraft whereas ground fixed radar couldn't. I'm probably wrong 🤔
In this mission there are very few or no ground radars in the mountains.
Sort of lost my love for DCS once I started playing in VR - optimization just isn't there yet unlike in IL-2 - hopefully they can sort it sometime in the future cause like you said the Mirage is a great module.
I pretty much only play DCS when I am too tired to play IL-2. I find it really hard to play DCS non-stop because of the lack of polish of the game. With that said, it is a fun game when you play it occasionally. What VR set are you using?
@@Enigma89 You mean you don't enjoy playing Wags' Loading Screen Simulator? I'm using the Rift S, got it at a good price and it works great. I know there's a lot of complaining about spotting in VR in IL2 and to an extent it's true - sometimes you can't really know if someone's a friend or foe until you're in a bad spot - but I think the positional awareness it gives you makes up for that disadvantage, losing someone in a tight furball isn't nearly as easy as it is with trackIR. Downside is it's hard to go back to CLoD or something with headtracking afterwards lmao
I went to unhealthy lengths to get DCS working well in VR... but it is possible lol
Instead of doing that lengthy INS alignment just set it to ACLN, set your other switch to STS, then hit the glowing Val button next to the multi segment display. Then it will count down from 100 to 0 set it to nav, and set the other nob back to N. It isn't realistic I don't think, and is a setting that can be turned off, but most servers leave it on for convenience sake. There isn't even any inputting of the coordinate like the original alignment requires.
Probably you already know but...there is a fast alignment possible now :)

Its delirious fun - I fly mine as a politically incorrect Mirage 2000CZ in old South African Air Force colours from my youth and childhood.

If you looking for WVR engagements in PvP you cant go wrong with Alpenwolf's Cold War 1947-1991 server. Main heros are F5Es and MiG21s, and mostly rear aspect IR missiles only. Great fun and great dog fights

I actually really like that Cold War server. I played on it for nearly 4 hours yesterday with some people and putting together a video. It's a great breath of fresh air to play on there and have been playing it more regularly in the last month. The quality of players on there seems to be just better overall, my guess is because the super focused plane sets allows for everyone to get really comfortable in the F-5 or Mig-21.
I heard about that new magic seeker to radar lock option but haven't dove into that quite yet. But I am sure that will be sweet once I figure that out. I Just got a new throttle so I am spending a lot of time remapping everything.

I don't really do that in the Mirage, I usually do that in the Mig-21. One thing you may want to do once you are spotted is turning on your jammer once you are spotted though.

@@arride4590 My understanding is that the jammers are undermodeled in DCS so it's not a total solve for everything but it seems to mess up Russian planes more. It helps hide the range (but not your plane) on radars.

I personally like the M2K more. When Aerges is done with the Mirage F1, I may change my answer. You need to ask yourself where you play, the servers you play on determine what you will buy IMO.

They aren't terrible but they aren't mind blowing. With how targeting is, its hard to get them to bend like a R-73.
