- John Winston Ono Lennon MBE (born John Winston Lennon, 9 October 1940 - 8 December 1980) was an English singer, songwriter and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as the founder, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney remains the most successful in musical history. In 1969, he started the Plastic Ono Band with his second wife, Yoko Ono. After the Beatles disbanded in 1970, Lennon continued as a solo artist and as Ono's collaborator.
Born in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager. In 1956, he formed his first band, the Quarrymen, which evolved into the Beatles in 1960. He was initially the group's de facto leader, a role gradually ceded to McCartney. Lennon was characterized for the rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, writing, drawings, on film and in interviews. In the mid-1960s, he had two books published: In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works, both collections of nonsensical writings and line drawings. Starting with 1967's "All You Need Is Love", his songs were adopted as anthems by the anti-war movement and the larger counterculture.

I never knew that John was losing his eyesight, and he found out by the optometrist that he was nearsighted... by the time of his death, he was legally blind. So, if he was still here today, he would be blind. Poor man. R.I.P John, you are an incredible musician and musical genius, and an wonderful man 💕☮✌🙂

There was a two hour docu on TV years ago and it was that he loved helping our country. He tried to tell young folks about lousy government things happening and it was said that FBI did not like him an oh it was over 15 yrs ago an I forgot it all. But I do remember the TV show said government could have had him set up to be killed. I have looked for that show and you can no longer find it. Does anyone remember seeing it?

it mentioned that John visited Paul in 1976 in New York , actually it was the other way round , Paul and Wings were in the U.S.A. during the Wings Over America tour when Paul & Linda called on John & Yoko on 24 - 4- 1976 . Also when John finally got his car licence it was in the U.K. , the car shown is a left hand drive , in Britain & the British Commonwealth plus a few others the steering wheel is on the right .

Totally. I'd heard that John was in some movie where he played a soldier(don't know the name, assuming it's British, don't know for sure), and for some reason, the role required him to wear his now-famous round glasses. He claimed he liked the look and that's why he decided to keep wearing glasses. Sounds crazy, but it's, again, just something I'd heard.

I am irritated that John favored his son Sean over his other son Julian, which is bulls**t 😡
Seriously. Not that it affects that unfortunate situation any, but Julian was far more successful musically than Sean. Mostly his debut album, but still. I wonder, since it happened after John died(sadly), how John would have felt about Julian's success.
