I think they are Lakota People. One of the Plains Indigenous tribes/bands.
This movie is filmed entirely in Pines Ridge reservation in South Dakota, and stars local talents found among the indigenous people of Pine Ridge

I ❤️ Native American culture - so much to teach about caring for the earth-nature. A once Free people, their land taken and then forced on to reservations. Very Sad.

I was a little iffy in the beginning but I think I might enjoy this film

I've hitchhiked across country about 6 times now and whenever I'm out west I pass through more than one Res. The rides are good, the people are kind.
I get good advice on where to camp, or NOT to stay. Kids can get bored and angry like anywhere else but they see a white man just kicking back, doing nothing and doing it on their land, it sets some folks off.
