I have a theory that asura's powers are related with satsui no Hado somehow..
I've never played this game but the fact that the dev essentially turned the first half of this DLC into a completely different game just for the guest characters feel how dedicated the dev team is.
It's CyberConnect2, they know their game.

it's what allowed them to reach "enlightenment" or "divinity".
also the aspect of hatred debuted in this, the red mantra is hatred and murderous intent.

The satirical component here i feel everyone has missed is that Akuma/Oni is still searching the galaxy to be the strongest being ever. Asura doesnt care about that - he just has anger issues and just sees Akuma/Oni as an annoyance that's in the way

What I believe is that, for the sheer amount of energy (mantra) Asura and Akuma spent on their battle, their souls "died" and went to the Naraka. And took 500 years for their souls to get out of the Naraka to return to their bodies...so they could continue their battle! :D

theory: Akuma managed to defeat Asura 500 years later in another brutal fight. He got wounded from Asura and searched for a place to recover and fell unconsious. Later Kazumi found him (Heihachis wife) and cured him. Thats why he wants to revenge her in Tekken 7
Jay fighterZ I can agree on this theory but I have a question. Would Akuma go to the Tekken universe after his fight with Asura or is Tekken and Asura’s Wrath in the same universe? But I guess that mostly explains how Akuma ends up in Tekken 7 while this episode explains how Ryu ended up in Smash 4.

Your theory is spot on but the problem is akuma in asura is non canon and akuma in tekken is canon
Sorry to break it to you guys but the theory is missing one thing, akuma would never be able to beat asura even in his oni form, asura is just way too overpowered by the plot of the game for that to happen, especially considering 7's events and how shin aku was struggling against devil kazuya which is nowhere near asura so even with his oni form, akuma is unlikely to beat asura
I think it would be more believable if akuma were to meet kazumi after his fight to the death with gouken

Have you seen/played Asura's Wrath before? That guy took a sword to the chest and was thrown from the moon to the Earth with the sword still inside him, and when he landed the sword pierced through the entire Earth, and he lived, then killed his opponent with his own blade, whilst he had no arms, he held the sword with his mouth, then he used the same sword in his mouth to defeat a giant mammoth demon thing. Akuma had no chance from the start.
Legends still said that until this day.. in alternate universe that these two are still going at it. Neither of them wanting to back down and probably longest fight that any man or even God in that matter can't understand why.
I wish every fighting game was like this.

They actually didn't wait 500 years. According to "Asura's Wrath" lore, when some "god" or "deity" turns into stone, means it's soul "died" and went to the Naraka (something like a "Purgatory of Souls", between Heaven and Hell). If your soul is able to return from the Naraka, it returns to your body and you "revive".
So their bodies didn't wait 500 years but their souls did, right?
In the base game, Asura is shown climbing the pillars of Naraka several times, being as he actually dies throughout his vengeance.
