He is the first of many to retire this off-season, it's going to be weird this season with so many names gone.
Colorado isn't my team, but I always have respect for vets who join management, they want to keep helping the team even when off the ice.
Cogs was good for the Oilers too...fast and effective player.

Game one started great for Edmonton except the puck not going INTO the net and inches from the goal line. Skinner looks more confident in his body language than other times…steadying. THIS ONE will be fun to experience!! HOCKEY!!!!
I still think Skinner isn’t a good goalie. I’m happy to be wrong on that…. However how can anyone not love the guy after listening to any of his interviews win or lose? What a beauty!
I am old! Coggs retiring after nearly 1300 games and I remember him skating around as a rookie like it was yesterday.
This is just the first step of being old. Next, you'll see a favorite player's son come in as a rookie. Then, you'll see that son retire from the NHL. Then, some kid will score a goal and the announcer will say "he's only 19, folks, born in 2054"........
2000s players are going like flies.

Godspeed Cogs, if there was a special segment at the HoF for bottom 6 guys, you'd be first ballot for sure.
Just consistent effort each shift no matter the situation and that is something not to be taken for granted in professional sports.

The only time I ever saw McDavid thrown off by a defense for an entire series was 2022 against Colorado, that skating ability of Makar and Co. was like kryptonite to McDavids greatest strength. If you can't skate with him you can't keep him under wraps period, even if you can good luck

With the way McDavid took over this series, I have a hard time seeing Florida win in Edm tonight.
As an Edmonton fan, it's definitely possible lol. This team typically does the exact opposite of what you expect.

Actually crazy how they won 5-1 without mcdavid getting a point, and draisaitl with just 1, if you told me at the beginning of the year they were going to win games because of defense, goaltending, and depth scoring I would’ve laughed and called you a liar but here we are. Incredible.
I predict a game 7 . Rooting for the cats but mcdavid is a beast!! Turned into a great series no matter who wins.

I am rooting for Giordano to find a team to play on. If he can't find a contending team, then maybe he could sign with the Sharks or the Hawks, be that veteran support for the youngsters, and hope to prove himself for a move at the deadline.

Go Panthers! So Flo native here, I started following the cats during the 15/16 season and have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly from them. This series has been all of that for them, but I am confident the version of the cats we saw in the back half of game 5 is the version we get from them tonight!
you started in 15. There wasn't that much ugly compared to before that. You have got to see mostly winning seasons. You are blessed. Ownership! what a difference it made when we finally got an owner that didn't trade away all our prospects for more draft picks that the scouts would miss on. Now they find guys in the fourth, off waivers, teams that gave up on guys. What a change of culture. Hopefully its not all luck and there is some skill involved. FL has been making a bunch of good guys great and very rich last few seasons. Come here, look better then you are, and sign somewhere else and make your money.

Even if you thought the Oilers had 70% shot to win each game, that is only 49% overall that it will happen. I’m rooting for it but it’s still an underdog story. I think they’ve been the better team in this series by a good margin. If Bob hadn’t had that game 1, it’s likely Edmonton looking to close out on home ice tonight. Either way, it’s been a much better series than it looked like from the start. I think tonight will be the Drai game and then Connor will not be denied in game 7, even if he has to create 5 goals on his own.
As a Canucks fan Oilers win again today the Florida panthers ain't stopping them that 8-1 game was a statement and since then florfia can't match oilers speed it's crazy good series I think the Oilers actually will pull this off last 2 games started with a shorthanded goal like there buzzzzzing love that we get more hockey to watch keeep pushing emmmmmm

@ronreinhold8997 I'm never in favor of a bad team buying out a bad contract they can keep under the cap. This is why Vlasic is still in San Jose. Buy him out now and you're paying for 6 years. Keep him, and maybe at some point he plays well enough that you can trade him half retained for a 4th rounder or something.
Yzerman prefers having his draft team located in a "war room", away from other teams GM's. Yzerman also, isn't a fan of the draft being held so close to the start of free agency. They are also holding a camp for some players, around the same time. Don't right off the Wings resigning some of their own free agents.
I'm hoping they resign Sprong. Where are you going to get a 20 goal 4th line scorer. I would like them to resign the Ghost as well, but it's looking like a log jam happening at the defense (unless they can unload Holl and Petry).
@@dloviisa sprong had a lot of defensive gaffs so I don't think he will be brought back. He is a 4th liner despite his offensive abilities for a reason.

Merzlikens most likely a Blue Jacket until the 2025-26 trade deadline, after the salary cap makes its next 2 expected jumps if it does. By then someone should have some space to take the whole cap. Or Columbus retains salary at next year's trade deadline if they can find a taker, maybe find a third party to take 25%. But it's most likely going to be a tough 2 year period for them coming up.

As for Merzlikins, maybe he just needs to be told that no one wants his contract and so if he wants to get traded he had better play the best hockey of his career to raise his value.

I wonder if it would be interesting to look at the history of penalties/suspensions in the Stanley cup final. I feel like there has been way more calls since game 4. Yet in the Boston / St Lewis series players were getting suspensions with no penalties on the ice.. just a thought

I think Raymond's a lock for an 8 year deal but I know a lot of Wings talking heads think Seider will (or should) get a bridge deal. I don't personally like the idea of that but I get the logic. I'd back up a dump truck full of money for those two and lock them down for a long time, myself, but we'll see how Yzerman handles it. He's a shrewd negotiator so it's interesting to see what the dollar amount is for the both of them.

Not that outrageous to think Edmonton could win considering we've seen two reverse sweeps in recent memory. Hockey is the one sport where it really seems possible ('04 ALCS notwithstanding)

I like Lucas Raymond so hopefully my second favorite nhl team keeps him they need sighter back if they even want a chance to be good this season but u know me I’m waiting on the rangers to make some drastic moves
Florida moved their 3rd forward back last game and the (Panther) players didn't adjust to until midway through the second period, at which point they were down by 3, but outplaying the oilers. I suspect Florida will be ready for Edmonton's 1 man high 4 man low defensive zone coverage they've been using the last 2 games, and as a result, it will look like Edmonton is 'struggling' against Florida again. That being said, if knoblauch pre-emptively adjusts their defensive formation (specifically by bringing their forward back into their zone and collapsing on the puck, which would counter florida's adjustment of moving their 3rd foward back) then the oilers have a good chance of winning. I don't think they will have a chance to run-and-gun again this game, it should be a tight checking nail biter tonight.

Not accusing you of that, just curious, literally been watching (although admittedly not religiously) for about three years and have never heard you say you were a fan. You're welcome to correct me with a link to a video predating the playoffs where you demonstrate as much.

I am guessing most of the players on both sides are injured. These guys have such a high pain threshold its insane. I have 3 broken ribs, a shattered tibia, and then go out and score 3 goals on one foot.

First off it's only 2 days between games not 3 or 4. Also they had to due to distance. It's not good for the players health to be flying back and forth and playing every other day. Sitting still after getting a bruise can lead to a blood clot

Would love to see a game seven, but am tired of watching Draisaitl skate at half speed, with little effort at backchecking or defensive play. Hell, even Perry or Nurse are playing with more effort. And for Pete's sake, bench Bromberg if he keeps turning over the puck! If the Oilers do the unthinkable, McDavid for the Conn Smythe.
Waddell basically sending a blunt message to the fans: "Don't expect a successful team as long as Elvis's contract dangles around our necks like the biggest albatross known to man." What worries me more is the way this is going to stunt the team's goalie development - with Elvis clogging up one of the two available roster spots, it's going to be a dogfight for the young talent to get any quality NHL ice time. That's particularly not good considering they need to find a reliable #1 for when Elvis's contract finally runs out.

So I said I didn't want a sweep. I wanted more hockey games. I joined the gym after I clearance from my doctors. Stopped working out during the games. Panthers stopped winning. So tonight I work out during the game. I said no lucky charm in the finals. Didnt work out last year. Seems this year its not helping it. So if the Panthers can't get their act together tonight, lucky charm for game 7 after they are down 2-0 to the Oilers in the 2nd. I said if I could get a game 7 with a guarantee for a Panthers win that would be great. now i don't trust them. I hope the line up change corrections fix the rush issues and go back to keeping McDavid to 2 points per game. You can't stop him. He can sort of slow him down. Also the narrative before this series is he can't get it done. Even if the Oilers don't win, I hope people stop bashing the guy for not getting it done. Its a team game. Every other fan base would love to have him on their team regardless of how much you are paying him. I also still remember that play against the Rangers. I was watching that one. My thought was, how does he not score 5 goals a game? Does he hold back? Does he feel bad for the other team? I am hoping for a game 6 win, but I am not expecting it. Hopefully its a close game one way or another. If the Panthers win 8-3 it will be slightly less stressful. I am sensing an OT game this game. Expecting Oilers to win in OT. I hope I am wrong.
