- Few movie locations can match the history and grandeur of Monument Valley, a natural treasure that has served as the backdrop for classic films like John Ford's "Stagecoach" and "The Searchers." Martha Teichner goes on location to one of the greatest movie sets of all time, built by Mother Nature herself!
this was on my bucket list....recently visited and hiked the Wildcat Trail around the Mittens....it did not disappoint....even more stunning in person
I absolutely love this place.I was so touched when I visited there. If anyone has the chance to see it, you should, it's Amazing!!
Just been there today. Really breath taking to se
nice place, nice document, nice films ...
Just think how big those trees were to leave stumps this huge.
Seems you left one more production use of Monument Valley out - the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons. Creator Chuck Jones used the backdrop of Monument Valley in most of the episodes...... when I look at the top of one of the bluffs I can't help but think of the coyote trying to catch the road runner with a vaunted Acme contraption and being inadvertently ejected off the top with a boulder falling on top of him.
John Ford: No director in cinematic history shall ever come close to graciously using natural desert monuments on film befitting of the God given glory given to them as such.
David Lean: Hold my wineskin....
I actually got to stand at John Ford's Point, right near the 'Three Sisters.'
Don't forget it was even featured in "2001: A Space Odyssey." It was seen in bizzare colors in the wormhole sequence.
