I have 13 necromunda gangs ( sort of)....er Orlocks, Delaques, Goliaths, Spirers, orks ,imp guards as stand in Van sars, genestealers, beastmen, I have Cawdors but I used them as a chaos cultists and every type of scum and bounty hunter mostly conversions a couple of ratskins I forget the others that I have I'll have to dig them out and put them on here, I never bothered with the Eshers , my favourite gang however was the scavies, I didn't use the scavie models I used skaven instead, the necromunda underhive was just perfect and crying out for giant mutant rat/humans ...cheers now

Great video Guy, a real trip down memory lane for me

  • @AbominableJoshie
    @AbominableJoshie Před 4 lety +5

I got started with wargaming at age 12 with the 2nd edition 40k boxed set, but this boxed set really made me fall in love with the genre. I still keep every faction in the original box with the card and bulkhead buildings. Outlander gangs, ash waste nomads, and tons of converted figures. I also used house rules commonly available online for vehicles like motorcycles. This was my rabbit hole and still captures my imagination WAY more than the new version of either Necromunda or 40k. It was the investment I had in the gang I bought (Van Saars at first) and following their story from one fight to another kept my attention and kept me involved in the campaigns.

Would love to see a retro unboxing of Titan Legions. I think out of all the GW stuff I've collected, TL impressed me the most with the sheer amount of STUFF they crammed into that box! And the way the Imperator and Mega Gargant were basically games unto themselves with their absolutely MASSIVE datacards (The Imperator's is the size of the entire box!) designed to place troop stands on them for boarding actions and in the case of the Gargant, moving Grots around to fight fires, was just absolutely brilliant.

Retromunda was the game of my childhood! I played 40k, blood bowl, heroquest, fantasy battle, epic etc but this game just sums up everything that was perfect back then.
I n ran two different orrlok gangs, one called the cowboys. I remember I played a scenario where zombie hoards filled the underhive, it was released in a white dwarf issue, and it was their last stand as I lost every model bar 1.. The gang leader, with dual hotshot laspistols.... left in the grimdark, fighting off the corpses of his fellow gangers.

This was a fantastic game: a refined version of the best wh40k version ever, where you play "human stat" squads which, until you role play them too high, are really fun and unpredictable.
I remember how fun it was putting your whole squad against a single powerful enemy, like a genestealer, an ork infiltrator squad, or (if you are a little masochist and your squad stats have grown too far) even a lictor! Custom rules could be found everywhere and since it was NOT an turnament game, ruel bitching and "you can't do it" attitudes were far more relaxed.

Loved having my own gang and seeing how they evolved over time, even if they picked up injuries making them worse. It's something that's stayed with me throughout games I play. In D&D my characters will always have negative aspects or difficulties they overcome because it makes gameplay more enjoyable.
Huge fan of your content Guy, it's opened up so many youtubers to me (miniac, goobertown, squidmar to name but three) and I've really improved my own hobby skills, in large part just by doing more and not being immobilised by fear that the end product won't be "perfect". I started back into the hobby as an adult with "Shadow War Armageddon," which was more like Necromunda than anything else, and even though I invested heavily in 8th edition "Kill Team," I get nostalgic for ammo checks and scatter templates-- there's an undeniable excitement to the random elements. (Hysterically, I too saw the 2d nature of the revival and was turned off, same as you!) My one true blue opponent and I settled on "foam children's blocks" as a way to quickly create quirky 3d ruined cityscapes for our games of Shadow War.

I love the old Necromunda. And used to play in campaigns at our local shop. Another thing to mention is that there were several sets of alternative rules in the magazines they used to have for the game. Including rules for Chaos cultists. Just as there were magazine's for Mordhiem. Excellent stuff. Totally glad that I have managed to keep, protect, and even add to my original Necromunda stuff. I do have some of the new game. But I just haven't fell in love with it as much yet.

This was the last boxset I bought before I dropped out of the hobby (came back recently, God I'm old now), but I was obsessed. Just couldn't find anyone to play with.
I'm all in on a Retromunda revival. Recently joined a group of old school players who have come back into the hobby & the narrative campaigns we have planned would work perfectly

A couple of friends asked if i wanted to chip in on a game back in the 90's. We chose Necromunda, and I had no idea what I was getting into, having never played any tabletop games. Long story short, it quickly became my favorite game, and still is to this day! I still play with one of those friends whenever the opportunity arises, though we now play the Community Edition. Best. Game. Ever. I don't care what the Bard says (though I watch his Hero Quest video regularly...).

Total blast from past! We had that game and 40k and we ended up playing Necromunda a lot more because of the campaign. With the Goliaths we often gave the knife guys shot guns, why not?

Loved Necromunda! Had the core game and Outlanders along with some characters, a favourite of which was "Mad Donna Ulanti". I ran a veteran Orlock gang that had been through a few scrapes. Had some epic scuffles with my friends goliath and Cawdor gangs. Good Times!

At the risk of being pedantic: Goliaths *could* get agility skills (advance roll of 2 or 12) and everyone could buy boltpistols for their starting gang (20 credits). You could even give 'em to a juve. I love the new game, but its nice to get a bit nostalgic about the game I fell in love with all them years ago.

I miss the Weapon sprues, back in the 90s you could buy weapons sprues with weapons without hands.
Yeah all those new rulebooks and "expansions" feels more like you are buying the same things over and over again, but it does have some good side but its nor really rules or mechanics related.
It would be nice to see an old school Necromunda '95 campaign, I still have my Eschers, they are my reminder of how I used to paint, also reminder that back then I didn't care much what happened to the minis when they were converted, meaning I didn't remove bit carefully as I do today, I also painted and converted some of my Eschers into Catachans :)

All the feels of early GW hobby days 🥺 Had all these minis and was a Necromunda obsessive. Had all the gangs and loved making mad underhive scenery. Ive no idea where any of my minis are now which is a disaster! Probably worth a small fortune. I loved the unique feel of each gang and the Blood Bowl style progression and skill building made this a stand out game. I also liked how it felt like a more realistic version of the 40k universe with even a basic Bolt pistol feeling powerful. It created great gaming moments as individuals got cool skill combos and weapons and did heroic things from game to game. But was also stressful if your star ganger got shot at as it might just be the end of your favourite! It was easy to run multiple gangs at once as well so you could play a large campaign with all the gangs, with just two people.

Retromunda does have a fantastic ring to it! I remember playing my first game in the early 2000s, it was great fun and only a one off, but we rolled for the after-effects anyway too, and you're spot in in saying that's great entertainment too. I used to be a escher ganger, but then i took a pistol to the knee!
