Iâve never understood this behavior, if someone writes their initials or name, they have accomplished nothing. Not to sound mean, but the majority of people will not become prominent enough to be remembered, all youâve done was deface a priceless artifact so that people in the future can no longer appreciate it to the fullest, and with a now worthless name who no one will care about and will be seen with disgust.

There are sites and museums who have banned selfies and the use of selfie sticks
Some people may not ban them because then they'd lose business- people want pictures of themselves, at the location- but they could just hire a professional photographer to do it instead at a designated location. :) maybe that would help!

There was a unique rock formation on one of the beaches where I live (Oregon) and it was like prehistoric and stuff but this group of tourists tore down the rock on purpose. Apparently, a few friends of the ppl who tore down the rock got hurt on the rock and the ppl thought it was fine to tear down literal history. Thinking about it now makes me angry

My condolences to the people of Italy. I was there for four months and heard plenty of stories about priceless artwork being destroyed by tourists. Their country is rich in history, and they shouldnât have to fear losing something thatâs been around for centuries
I remember the story of the king's statue in Lisbon from a walking tour I did there - the tour guide who was also a screenwriter gave us the most entertaining and imaginative tour, giving us the history of the city through stories, which included cliffhangers, twists and gasp-worthy moments. The best walking tour I had ever done.

I once bumped a Van Gogh painting đŒ that was on loan to another museum in the Netherlands from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
It was called the Kruller Muller museum
It was the painting of the cafe with the yellow awning in Arles, France.
I just took a photo of my friend next to it.
When it was my turn for a photo next to it I accidentally bumped it and the painting fell down and I managed to catch it
The expression of the look on my face holding the painting was as priceless as the painting!
I still cannot believe that the painting was held on the wall was with one hook and that it could be that easily knocked from the wall
And that a priceless painting was so easy for a tourist to get that close too
We checked after I put the painting back on the wall and we were told all the paintings were original Van Gogh paintings!

the funny thing about the "love locks" on bridges and such is while they are meant to represent the strength of their love (or sth), are being cut by maintenance crews every year or so.

I've been working at a museum during the summer for a few years. Luckily i haven't seen anyone destroying anything yet. The museum is a naval museum with alot of old boats and various items related to them mostly from 16-1700s. The worst i've seen is a family wanting take pictures while sitting inside an old wooden boat. This boat is approximatly 200 years old and most of that time was spent under the water surface. The boat looks like it could fall apart from its own weight at any moment. So as usual I just casually patrol around my area as I see this family trying to climb inside it. I rush to tell them in the most friendly yet passive agressively way that they shouldnt do that. After telling them some of the information we got on the boat I continue my patrol. But I had a slight feeling that I couldnt trust them 100%. The building is basically a loop so as I after one minute get back to the boat. I see the same family all of them sitting in the boat. To me it is still a miracle that with all the anger that filled me at that moment, I didnt just spill my entire curse vocabulary on this family. On another note my colleague found a couple having some fun in another boat in the same exhibit. Thats probably the worst story i've heard from the museum. Please act as an adult when you're at a museum.
